Wow, I never knew that Tehachapi blvd-curry-valley-woodford used to be the free way and it goes all the way to the road that takes you to north bako/oildale you passed right by my house lol great video
Thank you, KernCountyResponseVideos. I'm glad that you liked watching it. Yes, the old US 466 was a long route. That's where the current CA SR 46 gets it's abbreviated name too. Just in case you hadn't already read this, here is the Wikipedia entry for US Route 466: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_466 Thank you for watching the video. Fred : )
Not a freeway. Just US Route / Highway 466. It connected to US Route 66 in Barstow. This was the road the "Dustbowl" "Okies" traveled in the "Grapes of Wrath" days of the 1930s and 40s.
Hi Kim, it's probably CA SR 58, the current highway that trucks use to get from the Mojave Desert to Bakersfield. The 58 was built in a generally straighter path, so the Old 466 is first on one side of it, then on the other (south of it, and then north of it respectively if you're going west) But if you'd give me a time code, I can tell you for sure. Thank you for watching the video. -Fred
Drove that exact route so many times over the past 40 yrs

Do that trip in the spring time when the hills are all green and the poppies are blooming it is so beautiful
Will do. The scenery changes so much with the seasons. That is one of those facts that really amazes me throughout each year. -Fred : )
Do you know why the Tehachapi loop was built that way?
Wasn't it because the grade was too steep for a straight line track through that portion?
About halfway through the video, there's a highway on your right. What highway is that?
