My '03 Suburban has a 3" lift with 33's. Dont care about looks, what I like about the lift is the ease of maintenance. No jacks, no ramps, just slide under, drain the fluids, and refill. The Nitto all-terrains are also indestructible, very good for all the construction going on in my area (south TX).

Been watching your series on Tahiti for a while, planning on doing something similar to my Avalanche. Especially interested in the coilover conversion. The roads I have to travel while working are insane. Smoothing out that ride is something pretty important to me, and since Carli doesn’t offer anything for GM products, your solution still seems to be the best option I’ve found. Don’t blame you for changing directions on Tahiti…….it’s YOUR TRUCK! Build it how you want, I’ve enjoyed the videos and will continue to follow your channel.

No, my work keeps me away from home a lot. The coil over conversion is on my list, just gonna have to wait til I swap in the lower mileage engine/transmission/transfer case from the donor I bought, and get the front and rear diffs swapped. Then I will tackle the coil over conversion.

I totally understand this. I lifted my Tacoma, bigger tire, etc. It looked cool, but rode rough. I recently sold it and bought a Tundra. The Tundra rides really smooth. It’s turned me into an old man as a have no plans to change anything on it. Sometimes simpler is better, and certainly cheaper. 😂

I finally got the oil pump and pick-up tube changed in mine. So far, it was well worth it. I'm looking to add some Escalade and Danali features to complete the build. One thing about these models is that unless it's stock, there are no two alike.

Great to hear your rationalization on this. I've come around to the same revelation for my 04 Suburban Z71. Picked up some sweet 2023 Silverado 20" rims so I could put 2019+ brakes on it. After evaluating how much it would change the ride with a leveling kit and larger tires I decided to keep it stock with OEM rims/tires and GMT900 brakes. It works and runs great as-is for a vacation vehicle.

Hey Matt when your doing the headlights I did it on my 04, try spraymax 2k clear on the headlights, here’s the steps I did and no joke if your decent at spray clear from a can which you are I think the headlights look as good as new and will last forever if maintained. There’s a lot of steps but I think it’s well worth it.
P320 (50 percent faster sanding) (only needed if the factory clear is holding on, wipe with iso after each sand to see if you’ve missed anything)
P600 (start here if the clear is all gone and the headlight is yellow)
    P800 (refine 600 grit scratches)
    P1000 (refine 800 grit scratches)
P1500 (refine 1000 grit scratches for a super smooth surface to the touch)
P2000 (refine the 1500 grit scratches for a super smooth not super orange peely finish)

G'afternoon from Boise ID. I recently had an 01' Suburban XLT Tahoe stolen. So for the time being I picked up a 98' S10 Blazer LS 4 Dr 4wd for $700. I gave it a tune-up, got a cold air intake kit for it, converted to floor shift with a shifter and cable from an 01' Trailblazer and they recently did away with the emissions laws here in Idaho. So I'll be deleting the cat and putting dual exhaust on it soon. Overall it's turning out to be a pretty sharp rig 🙃

I like the stock look. I've been a fan of your journey with this car but I think its going to be more enjoyable getting it back to where it is now. I have a 2004 Sierra Z71 SLT that I'm in the process of putting a 2" lift/level kit on and keeping "Stock ish" but lifting it slightly with larger 17" factory wheels and 285/70R17s. I"m hoping the ride won't suffer too bad. I'm also doing premium shocks, all new bushings, control arms, cv axles, links, EVERYTHING. I bought refurbished 17" factory GMC wheels to replace my beat up looking stock 16" wheels and I'll do the brake upgrades also. I've really appreciated your channel for ideas. Today I pulled the differential while I had everythign apart and took that to get overhauled - and extracted 2 broken exhaust studs from the drivers side with my welder. Fun times! Soon my grandads old truck will be riding on all new suspension, upgraded factory 17s that look new, new tires, new exhaust manifolds, new steering and new front differential. I'm excited. Its a Montana truck so it has NO rust. Spending about 7K on this project (my labor, mostly rock auto sourced parts) sounded better than 70K on a new truck.

It's a little bouncy with the stock 17's cause the of sidewall height, but not worth upgrading to 18`s imo. Was looking at 20's but the newer 275/60r20's are a bit bigger and 275/55r20's are a little harder to find takeoffs cheap. So I'm sticking with the 17's.

Then had a leveling kit, rode like a dump truck. Removed that, then installed a 6” Zone lift, ran it for 1.5 years and hated it because it was my daily driver as well. Actually salvaged parts to return the truck to stock height with my 20x10s for a more street look and had it tuned, it was the best then! Still regret having ever sold it.

As someone who has both lifted (leveled) and lowered their Tahoe, here is my experience with both setups. I went from stock to installing a leveling kit with 3" lift in front via keys and a 1" coil spacer in back. Then put 20x12's wrapped in 33" Mickey Thompsons. They stuck out about 3" from the fenders and did get me pulled over once and I got away with a warning. After putting a little over 80k miles on the tires one finally got a flat. It was going to cost me close to $2500 to replace the tires with taxes and install fees. I decided against it because I didn't want to shell out that kind of money and still have all the problems with the setup. Primarily the bad gas mileage, getting eyeballed by cops, and the rig always being dirty from the tires throwing crud all over the car. So I put my factory stuff back on. The vehicle was immediately nicer to drive. The steering was smoother and my fuel economy went up noticeably. I kept it this way for 3-4 months before pondering the idea of lowering it instead and going with a bigger rim. I ended getting some 22x9 snowflakes and some 305/45/22 Falken Ziex tires (still close to 33") and a lowering kit with 2/3 inch keys for the front and a 4 inch drop rear coil. Everything cost me under $2k. It took me less than an hour to drop the rig. I do like the way it looks but there are issues going this route as well. The first is the rear. Choosing a 305 wide tire caused me to get a slight rub with the tire touching the inner fender liner. I installed some 1/4" spacers and that's no longer an issue. The front had a couple of issues. The first is the camber as even with the keys cranked all the way up there's still noticeable toe-in. The upper control arms had to be adjusted all the way outward to correct this. There are aftermarket control arms with additional camber settings but I didn't need this. Another issue is that because of the aftermarket torsion keys, your control arms are rotated upwards compressing your shocks and compromising your dampening. This is why it's suggested that if you lower the front, to use spindles as this will keep the factory geometry. I have since acquired spindles but now I'm looking for factory torsion keys.
The TLDR is changing it from factory introduces problems.

Yeah, you modified it and were chasing all the issues that came up and basically played enginner trying to make it right.

I would love to hear about a shock upgrade and how that affects the braking performance or feel over stock shocks and torsion keys.

@@JMASON-qy7kiThat's not what I mean. He put stock shocks on. I'm talking about upgraded shocks over stock shocks. Not the coil over system vs torsion syatem.

My future plans for my 4wd cat-eye Avalanche is to have full air bag suspension front and rear. I've been looking at the Atomic Fab coil over kit except with an air bag set up instead of the coil/shock package. I haven't found any other options for air bagging 4wd/awd NBS trucks. Would you happen to know of a better option?

Yes love the stock look. I had torsion bar suspension on old Datsun that were perfect. The ones in my 2004 Tahoe LT also I believe are perfect. My Tahoe is 2 wheel drive.
It came with the GM RPO code ZW7 premium smooth ride package with self-contained, self-leveling Nivomat shock.
But I have compared to other Tahoes and this package of shocks are great for towing also. I can put a huge boat on the back and it only sags 1/2- inch ! and yet rides smooth and good enough to drive sporty. I have tried other shocks but just went back to the stock (extreme smooth ride package) they are made by Sachs in Germany. There are no air pumps or electrical ride leveling but it rides better than those expensive systems.

I haven't seen one of your videos in a while and when I saw the thumbnail with the stock Tahoe I thought you bought another one or you were doing a before and after comparison. I've followed Tahiti's build since the first video when you bought it and I'm still looking forward to what you have in store for Tahiti. It's been amazing seeing the transformation from a stock Tahoe not unlike one you see everyday to one that stands out

About to do a front end suspension rebuild on my 2000 Silverado it currently has torsion bars and I’m on the fence. I’m fine with the ride quality but since we have to rebuild the front end, how was the ride with the coilovers?

I have a 2005 Tahoe. When I brake, I get a pulsing like it has warped rotors or the ABS is trying to work and when I brake hard, the ABS will kick in even on dry summer pavement. The rotors are pretty new, but I did do some towing this summer. It's as if the ABS is out of adjustment and wants to kick in when it really isn't needed. Any ideas?

Go watch the 1A Auto video on the ABS speed sensors. They get dirty and rusty and need to be removed and cleaned. My new issue is this. When I start the engine when cold, I hear a sound like maybe a bearing that is falling apart from the right rear of the engine or around the transmission. It gets better after a couple of minutes. I have plenty of fresh synthetic oil in it. I just came back from a 3-hour highway drive and had no problems. Any ideas?
