Been a Skinny Puppy fan for ages and I really like this version. :) Yes, it's different, but there's no point in doing a cover version, if you don't put your own style into it.
Yeah, except he changed a word in the chorus that fundamentally nullifies the meaning of the song. The song is essentially about colonialism, or man's sort of "manifest destiny" mindset when it comes to resources and the general direction of things humanity has direct access to manipulate in the world and the universe. As we have moved forward as a species, many other species and systems have been crushed beneath the wheel we call "progress," and not a whole lot of forethought has gone into those processes. Global warming is a perfect example of this... "So hot to annihilate," is a metaphor for mankind's eagerness to move humanity forward, even at the expense of the system that keeps us breathing and able to perform those tasks. "Agony profusely stains the inner thinking of the brain Accusations clanking chains experiments with the groans of pain" Its almost like they heard the song and didn't even comprehend its message. They just heard some "badass" lyrics and thought it sounded like a "cool" bunch of words, and assumed it was some kind of anthem about being a badass. If anything it's a perfect representation of how ignorant these guys are... plunking along bonehead chords and screaming about shit they don't understand. That's why Skinny Puppy endure as long revered artists, and these guys are just "rock stars" in the magazines looking pretty and hamfisting power chords for the kiddies to bang their heads to, amped up on distortion and confusion.
lol, no... It's a competent "rock version," but Skinny Puppy are literal musical pioneers whereas this band is a marginally talented rock act. The programming alone on the original version is probably more complex than anything these guys have ever farted out. At least they got the chords right.

Like someone experienced the original version and went "oh wow, this is interesting," but failed to comprehend any of the things that made it great. That's why the "old heads" get pissy when stuff like this gets exposure, because, almost invariably, the little kiddies who like loud, angry noises can't even wrap their minds around the concept or the content of the original, let alone articulate what it is they like about the cover aside from the fact that their favorite loud, angry rock musician saviour likes it, and therefore it must be cool on some level, but only in the context of the loud, angry rock version, and nothing else. It's just stupid on its face, and then they get defensive when the people who like the original content dislike the rudimentary, barely comprehended version voice their opinion, nearly always using some moronic, parodoxical "well, if you don't like it, then you're just old and don't understand... everyones entitled to their opinion, and mine is right, and yours is wrong, and the original version is shit anyway."
