  • This video showcases the historically significant Caledonia Lodge No. 68, A.F. & A.M. in Columbus, Texas. Caledonia Lodge was chartered in 1851. Caledonia Lodge No. 68 is so intertwined with Texas History that it is inseparable. The preamble to the treaty of Texas Annexation into the United States was written by distinguished members of this lodge. Additionally, many hero's of the Republic of Texas were founding members of Caledonia Lodge No. 68. At least 15 members have been confirmed to have fought on the battlefield of San Jacinto. The Tiler's Sword which has served this lodge since the 1860's was donated by the father and esteemed Past Master (PM) of the lodge (and also a hero of the Republic of Texas) J.W. Wallace. The sword was his son and Caledonia member, W.H. Wallace's sword that was recovered from the battlefield after he was Killed In Action at the Battle of Sabine Pass in 1863. There are so many accounts of Texas historical significance associated with Caledonia Lodge No. 68 and their members that it is impossible to relate in this format. Caledonia Lodge is also home to Past Grand Master, J.J. Mansfield (1913), who was also a Texas Masonic Legend. You absolutely need to pay this lodge a visit, whether you are a Mason or just interested in Texas History. Their Stated Meeting nights are the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm, dinner at 6:30pm.

Another great video Brad. I certainly enjoy the video, but I find it fascinating to read about the history of the Lodge and its members. The background stories are not only significant to the Brethren of the Lodge, but an uplifting reminder to all Texas Freemasons, how important our role has been in this great State.
