Ah, so happy you got to this. Monica's jazz-velvety sound and her understanding to lyrics is pure joy. The Swedish lyrics to this song really describes the romantic, Swedish summer night.. You walk around all night with your loved one, small talking, steals a kiss or two and sits down to meet the morning sun.
The Swedish comedian Tage Danielsson described her as "ett lingonris i ett cocktailglas" (she was from a very small town in Värmland. She also dated Marlon Brando for a few days! One of his first comments to her was "May I call you Sven?", so she went by the name of Sven for a weekend. And the bass player here was George Riedel, who among other things has written a lot of Swedish children's song, like all the songs for Emil i Lönneberga and Alfons Åberg.
Ah, nostalgia! My mother Went to school with Monica. They both climbed trees and fought with the boys. Monicas injury actually was from one of those trees!
The way the lyrics describe the bright Scandinavian mid-summer nights ... pure joy, and I'm overcome by a dreamy nostalgia as my mind wanders away from this winter gloom, to the brighter days to come. One of my favourite songs. ♥ I sat here listening with you, smiling from ear to ear just like you did. Monica Zetterlund is a national treasure. :)
@@JonathanRollinssthlm305 from wikipedia "She worked with some of the greatest international jazz names including Louis Armstrong, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Steve Kuhn and Quincy Jones, and in the Scandinavian jazz world with people like Georg Riedel, Egil Johansen, Arne Domnérus, Svend Asmussen and Jan Johansson.[1" She was recognized worldwide. I'd love for you to hear "Håll musiken igång" with her together with Povel Ramel, likely the best rhyming worsmoth we ever had. It's insanely well done lyrics, and a theatrical act in song form.
We had some amazing jazz musicians and singers here. Sonya Hedenbratt (singer), or Jan Johansson (pianist, specialized in taking European folk music and turning it into superchill jazz), just to name a few.
You should see the film made of her life! The actress that plays her is from Iceland and does a very good ppictue of Monica. Finally, she actually was in USA and met and performed with big jazzartists. I enjoy yourmoments of learning to know Swedenwould like you to listen toRobert Broberg Båtlåt or Marie Fredriksson Så glittrande var aldrig havet and finally Monica Zetterlund Trubbel , live from 1968. SHIVERS!!!!
Båtlåt and Trubbel are great. The beautiful and clever lyrics beats most of the songs produced today. All theese wondeful words and expressions seem like they are getting lost...
"One more Time - Highland" - High quality swedish pop from the 1990s. Went to number one in more than ten countries in 1992. Written by Peter Grönvall (the son of ABBA member Benny Andersson).
I just found your channel by looking to send this song to my brother! Glad I made my way here. I like this song a lot. I then couldn't help but snort laughing hearing the next song you'll react to. I won't spoil it too much but I loved the drama of it when it came out (I think it was on Mello/Melodifestivalen to begin with?) while I was growing up. Thanks for your smiles and soothing voice!
Lyrics by writer/poet/actor/jazz enthusiast and lyrical genius Beppe Wolgers (voicing Baloo the bear in Kalle Anka on Christmas). He also did several kid’s shows in the 70’s
Great reaction! Monica had a awsome voice you've got to appriciate no matter what music genre you're into. Monica was on her way into a carreer as a jazz singer in the US for a while.
This is a true Swedish classic. It is not only about Stockholm, but also about the long summer nights. Every Swede knows about those (but they might not miss it until they live abroad). First, great work with the Swedish! You´re doing well, man! Second, I guess you get a lot of recommendations of Swedish classic songs. I have not watched many of your videos, so I am not sure of what you have already covered - but, from the same era as this is Jan Johanssons version of "Visa från Utanmyra". It is said to be The Song that captures the Swedish Soul at its utmost. It is a sad song, but I would really call it truly Swedish. Play it for (older) Swedish folks in exile, and you might see them cry. No lyrics, only a melody.
Monica Z was the one who made me start listen to jazz and fusion jazz. She changed my opinion about it. I didn´t looked upon it as Frank Zappa said "Jazz is not dead, it´s just smells funny" Besides this one one of Monicas songs. I like Trubbel and Under vinrankan. You should listen to them
The love for the city in this song reminds me of Solen Glimmar Blank och Trind by Carl Michael Bellman (best version is by Trio CMB with Fred Åkerström at SVT öppet arkiv)
This is the first time I agree that the song IS a "classic".. I have a difficult time thinking of songs that were created during my lifetime (and also a lot of them kind of disappeared because they didn't survive the test of time.. Is the phrase "Diminishing return" valid for music too? Zetterlund is primarily a Jazz singer.. And secondarily an actress.. and I also find it a bit odd if you never heard "Walkin' my baby back home".
Another classic from southern Sweden is Wilmer X, "Teknikens under". But I guess what is called a classic depends on your age. :) I would call Wilmer X the "Prophets of Sweden". This song was released in 1988 and just watch what has happened since! th-cam.com/video/fMv6ihbFsWk/w-d-xo.html
Monica Z did perform with some jazz legends, from wikipedia: "Hon samarbetade med amerikaner inom jazzen, exempelvis Louis Armstrong, Bill Evans, Stan Getz och Quincy Jones."
You know that in the 'classic' recordng of this it was Bill Evans on Base. I am not certain of which version you are playing in this reaction, so I can't say for sure.. This version: th-cam.com/video/GF_NDRM3498/w-d-xo.html
Not sure what you're getting at with the the original title "Walking my baby back home". It's customary to see to it that your date gets home safely, either by walking with her or getting her a taxi or something. This is more true than ever right now with sexual assaults on the rise. Has nothing to do with sexism.
Hon sjöng jazz med "svarta" kända musiker i USA och det var INTE populärt då. Blond svenska med svarta jazzmusiker - hon fick åka tillbaka hem. Vilken tok 😕

Monica Zetterlund was big in the USA, she toured with Ella Fitzgerald and lots of other jazz artists. She really was amazing
Was she really? In the movie "Monica Z" her american adventure seems like one big fail - or maybe it's my memory that is failing?
A black and a white girl together. Must been a controversy back in the day

You should try Monica Zetterlund's song Trubbel, it's so unusually straightforward in ways, a bit more sad but I love it.
She had the kitchen knife beneath her jacket…

Monica = Iconic. She was huge in United States back in the day. You should totally watch the movie about her life! "Monica Z".
She wanted her vocals to "float detached to the rhythm, like a bird". Incredible singer.

The actress's father is from Iceland. Edda Magnason, the actress, is from Skåne.
As a swede, these reactions make me really happy. I suggest adding some Ted Gärdestad songs to your list!
I'm sure I'll do more Ted. I did "Himlen är oskyldigt blå". Great song!

Very nice. I would say Bo Kaspers Orkester - Fullkomligt Kaos is an essential part of swedish classics. Also has a nice music video to go with it.
Helt underbar låt som Monica Z är ett med sång och lyrik ... 🙏💖💖💖✨
Magiskt! Det här är Stockholm 💞

Well... Monika was our best Jazz singer... Jazz was her thing.
Walking my Baby Back Home. Pretty famous jazz standard
It´s hard not to love Stockholm!!
Jag undrar hur många gånger jag har ackompanjerat den här på piano till olika kvinnliga sångerskor. Den är ljuvlig!!
She died in the most horrible death, burned alive while wheelchair bound, I get nightmares only to think about it. Rest in peace dear princess
