    Shortly before the events of Cataclysm, an exiled noble had retaken Durnholde Keep and its surrounding area, declaring himself de facto King of Lordaeron as told in the preceding campaign Lordaeron's Legacy. After retaking a slice of the former Kingdom he has now styled himself as King Candor, a move which has proven unpopular with many in the Alliance. In this period of great unrest there are many heroes and villains trying to survive, claim power, or just do what they believe is right.

    Hi Jay another fun and entertaining video!
    Yeah I've tried to add lots of little fun extra dialogues for the player doing lots of different things such as performing the objectives out of order as you did. On that topic, one way to play the mission is to have one group defending and one group fighting their way to each cauldron and wiping it out and as they move you'll be teching and building up so they grow stronger as they make their way to each cauldron which gets progressively harder. You went for a much safer approach with towering which is perfectly valid, the more ways people can play a map the better, however I fear you chose this approach due to some of the poorer design decisions I've made making towers/towering seem like the intended way. This is part of why I love watching these videos and being able to see exactly where I could improve and do better in terms of mission design but more importantly mission DIRECTION, which is very important for communicating to a player how a mission is meant to be played. The cauldrons should be visible to the player from the start and really I think the player should have shared vision of the zombies so they can see where they're going. 425 is a number that I settled on after multiple tests to try and hit the sweet spot of pressure, but not too lenient to feel ignorable; maybe it's still not perfect and could be adjusted. That's why all the various enemy groups exist to slow down the player. The Violet base also has no defenders other than a couple of pre-placed units and whatever attack wave they are preparing if you wanted an expansion. In terms of the Forsaken attacking the towers that's behaviour I've never seen before, they are simple programmed to attack your base so maybe the AI gets confused in thinking the towers are an expansion or something I don't know.
    All in all the aim for this mission was to add a fun alternative objective to the usual base destroy or defence and I'm generally happy with how it works out although it does cause issues with pacing and balancing, as you see even going from one cauldron to 2 the rate the zombies escape is drastically reduced and this in turn influences the number that can be allowed to escape. It's something I'll probably tweak again lol.
    I also recognise now I could add a little more detail to the two keys that drop in terms of where those locations are although you did find them.
    In terms of the size of the missions, I don't disagree there's definitely areas to make the experiences tighter but at the same time some people do love having big maps to explore and find the various secrets and added touches. I try to add little things and events and encounters to show a level of care and effort in the maps (especially compared to LL) but as you say there is a balance to be struck. For example depending upon which hero approaches the Argent Crusade you get a different conversation with Istan being much friendlier. Secrets are what make Blizzard maps feel like blizzard maps and I made an effort to try and replicate that; on this mission alone there are two big secrets to be found.
    I also see you're enjoying the new units added to the tech-tree, there's nothing better than getting to play with new toys and the next two missions should also hopefully scratch that itch!
    So yeah overall, I'm loving seeing how you approach these missions and it's definitely teaching me lessons in areas I should improve or things I could change to ensure the campaign is as smooth an experience as possible. I look forward to your next videos to come!
    All the best,
    Footman16

      Calia is also portrayed extremely different here too than in the game. I don’t know is she is a Wow created character or exists outside the game, but from what I remember, she is constantly asked to make a claim for the empty throne of Lordaeron, which she actively refuses as she hid to protect her now missing husband and child and because of the guilt of her brother slaughtering everyone and felt she had no right to the throne

      @@hobbes5552 From a quick Google search of "Day of the Dragon" (since that is the earliest appearance I remember) it came out in 2001 with wowpedia saying that she was a minor character (and iirc was supposed to be married to Deathwing's human disguise)‚ so not WoW original. I was also curious whether her husband and child were recent or not. According to wowpedia it was since it was for the BfA book "Before the Storm" (the site says ch. 15 and 25).

      It's definitely one way to play it, although in testing the "intended" way is to strike and destroy the cauldrons one by one as you tech and build more reinforcements at home with some small add pressure from the Forsaken and Ravagers. Looking at it, it seems poorly communicated and the fact you can't tell how tough the cauldrons are perhaps speaks to the problem but this is something I can work on :)

    It is a nice touch that the map maker takes into account that players may play through the map out of the intended order. I like it when they acknowledge sequence breaking and account for that.
    Now I don't play WoW and have no knowledge of any Warcraft-related lore beyond the RTS games, but I am really curious as to who King Candor's queen is. He mentioned in the one of the previous missions that that position is filled, but we haven't seen who she is yet. Otherwise King Candor marrying Calia and making her Queen would have been the best way to seal his legitimacy to the throne.

    Uu, character dev moment, good on Candor for asking his followers who'd they follow(unless he knew in advance they would still follow him no matter what).

    Just a small peeve - the characterization of Calia here is just… hilariously wrong. I get it, Footman16 writes his own lore, but still, this is such an unnecessary conflict, forced by character acting unlike she'd ever do.

    • @besregar1237
      @besregar1237 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I honestly don't see it being that different to her characterisation in WoW, she doesn't appear for several years instead hiding out with the Ravenholdt Assassin's if memory serves, then appears many years later to claim Lordaeron but gets killed, then raised as a "light" Forsaken (whatever that is) and then realises the Forsaken will never accept her as Queen. So honestly, being absent for ages, then turning up suddenly to claim something she had no interest in before seems perfectly in character for her imho :P

    • @J_Warral

      @@besregar1237 what? Is that the same Calia we are talking about? Because her entire character is that she doesn't want to claim the throne of Lordaeron.
      I mean, let's not beat around the bush, Calia is the "Good Girl" in the setting. From the get-go, despite being an older child of king Therenas, she never wanted a throne, content to let Arthas claim it - in fact, she was so "off" from whole royalty stuff, she secretly married a common (yet nameless) footman, and had a daughter with him.
      She did, later on, became a Priestess who, once again, was content with being a servant of the Holy Light.
      In "Before the Storm", she didn't come to "claim Lordaeron", that wasn't on her mind entirely. She was in the meeting in Arathi, because she genuinely wanted to help Forsaken reconnect with still-living members of their families - specifically, when Anduin asks her if Calia wants to reclaim the throne, she rejects this notion.
      And then, during the Gathering, one of the Forsaken recognized her, and began shouting that "the queen has returned"... and then everything went downhill.

      @@J_Warral Tbh Blizzard writing especially in later WoW expacs is pretty bad, so I'm honestly not bothered about changing her character to serve the overall themes of the story: Candor being pragmatic but cold, he makes enemies and in spite of saying he doesn't need allies/friends event show he actually does (for example Elves and Dwarves). From my perspective, Calia is not a very well used or written character in WoW and I completely reject any notion of a "light" forsaken being a thing. Blizzard also removed her dialogue in Legion renouncing her claim and she is still referred to as a Princess of Lordaeron, therefore that sounds like someone who very much still has a claim and based on her actions is an opportunist, whatever retcons blizzard have pulled out to justify their poor writing I care little for, they can "write" whatever they like but actions speak louder than words for example Danath choosing to chill in outland for about ten years after Outland has been made safe whilst his kingdom burns and falls apart.
      I hope that gives some insight into how I view it personally :)

      @EnclaveApex 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@besregar1237 Yeah, your version of Calia is far better than anything Blizzard could come up with now. She only appears "different" to people who still play WoW because there's no happy Disney veneer slathered into the development of her character or people around her by the time she ironically dies, which was out of game IIRC.
      Calia popping up while there are still stakes to be had in Lordaeron makes me care more about characters like Candor and Istan, so again, great job. It's like classic soap opera drama from the late-90s, "What happens next?"

OP pointed out Calia here is out of character and the response is 'nu-uh', then when they provide clear evidence the response changes to 'well she's written bad in canon anyway so the changes made here are good'. But that wasn't the original issue... it was that she doesn't match her canonical character.
