    I lost the cockpit lid to the tank almost immediately after getting it. By the time I found it I had completely forgotten what it was for, so I just had my figures use it as a surfboard. Thanks for inspiring my creativity, Panosh!

    The lack of Ro-beasts wasn't much of a problem for me as a kid. My friends and I all had several toys that could work as a substitute, such as the Rancor, an old Stretch X-Ray monster from the Stretch Armstrong line, an Invid Shock Trooper and a Godaikin robot whose name I could never pronounce (not that I could pronounce Godaikin either, of course).

    Voltron fleet of Doom episode was the ultimate when both Voltrons got together, but definitely for me the best part was when Prince lotor created 5 Robeast that created 1 huge Robeast & of course the Head of the Robeast was Prince lotor ...good ol'days 💯

    Funny, when I was kid I really wanted the metal Voltron that my cousin got. Instead I got the Castle, figures, and panosh place Voltron. Looking back I didn't know how blessed I was. I had a lot of fun playing with those figures and play sets. The castle alone is a great play set. I used other toys like my tranzro Z and Godzilla to fight my Panosh Voltron. I guess that's the beauty of being a kid. Your ability to adapt . Thanks for posting this I really enjoyed it.

    I recall having both the Blue and Yellow lions from this line when I was a kid. I also remember the robeasts being weak due to their lack of size. Until this video however, I didn't realize that there were so many vehicles for the bad guys. Thanks again for another great video - the beginning scene with Broken Vader actually has me LOL along with the scene where you shot him with the disk.

    Best option for in-scale Robeast:
    Get the several-hundred-dollars Lego Voltron set, get the biggest mech monster you can find from another line like the bull demon from Monkie Kid.
    This was of course not an option in 2015 and Lego is still expensive. Fan-designed sets like the Voltron model especially, as fans prioritize accuracy and intricacy a lot more than price point when designing custom sets.

    I had a friend who had a lot of these toys. We loved Voltron so they were fun, but seeing your breakdown of them really drives home the point why the line never took off despite a very poular show for kids. No accessories, poor sculpted poses and a lack of a decent sized Robeast. The coffins seem cool though. That castle also probably needed some more action points. Just looks like a big toy case.

    Fantastic episode yet again! I'm surprised the disc launching mechanism still packs a punch after all these years. In my opinion, Panosh accomplished more than Matchbox did in that they created an almost complete toyline with focus on play and durability.

    I used to watch Voltron on VHS tapes as I wasn’t even born when the show came out at first, and a VCR was my one luxury. I loved the series and wish I had these toys. They were still selling Masters of the Universe back stock up until like 1989 fro. What I can remember, so it was rather shocking to me that we just didn’t see these toys anymore after awhile.

  • @hgc7000

    The RB shorts lead me here! (Can't believe I missed this video) As a kid, it was impressive seeing all the lions combined into Voltron with the figures piloting them, Yes, I always wanted a large robeast to stomp around, and knock things over. Luckily, I just brought the Evil Trio in from Inhumanoids to chase my Lion Force. They worked just fine.
    Also, that Skull Tank was my go-to for all of my 1/18th bad guy forces. Is it actually a functional design? Not really. Does it look badassed, 100% it does.

    I never had any Voltron stuff as a kid, but I had a friend that had a mix of Panosh and Matchbox. I always loved the original Popy / Matchbox die cast stuff and always dreamed about having them. Now that I have a 5-year-old who is into Voltron, that still applies.
    I don't know. Part of the the weird decisions with the Voltron toy line probably also fall on WEP. They've always seemed to license the line to anyone who would pay a buck, and some of the merchandise is pretty weird. The Panosh Place stuff really seemed rushed in order to get the toys out for that unique season 3 that was cranked out to replace Vehicle Force. I personally am finding that I really like Vehicle Force, even though most kids hated it 30 years ago. Better writing, and a bigger cast. Even so, I guess i finally got my lion force Voltron after 30 years, though not in the way that I would have expected.

    I got the Panosh Place full Voltron set for Christmas when I was like seven or eight. It was all five lions but no pilots. Was pissed that I didn't get the Matchbox one, but I made do with what I had. The only figure I had was Scorpious, which I liked because he somewhat resembled a bat and I like bats.

  • @YourUncleBenis
    @YourUncleBenis 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Figures can still be lacking necessary accessories today. A recent example is last year's Captain America TWS 3 3/4 inch line, wherein the Winter Soldier figure lacked any guns but a humongous launcher that not even kids would care about(despite the Avengers movie Cap and Black Widow from two years earlier having pistols), and a Cap or two came with no shield but the one for use in a humongous launcher. This lacking accessories thing is even in 6 inch collector lines to a small degree, with the Marvel Legends movie Black Widow lacking any pistols but the ones sculpted permanently into her holsters, and no Hasbro Hawkeye has had any arrows to put into his bow. Really, the practice of not including such accessories is just one of those annoying things that toy companies do that makes absolutely no sense.

    I was always weirded out as a kid by the odd scale for the Panosh line. One of my friends growing had the entire line, but it just seemed cheap compared to GI Joes or even Star Wars. I had the Matchbox Voltron and the Go-Lion from Japan. Had no idea one of my beloved childhood toys was covered in lead paint. I guess that explains a lot! ;P Great episode! I've come back to this video to see the last piece I need for the collection the zarkon zapper. I also just finished the clash of the titans line and found a guy making movie like custom accessories like calibos whip and charron boat staff . My question is why hasnt someone came along to make the laser pistols and weapons for the figures of this great line of voltron toys? Maybe there's not enough fan interaction? Those pistols would be easy to cast or 3d print and I know I would buy a set. Just wondering your opinion.

  • @ivane5110
    @ivane5110 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's hoping that in the years since this video first was made that someone has take these original robeasts and made full/Voltron-sized versions of them, even if just a customizer scanning them and printing out the appropriate sized ones. Some coming out with army builder packs of the castle defenders wouldn't exactly be unwelcomed either.

    Say what you will about Panosh Place Voltron, but it was the one I always wanted. Above all else, I wanted a Voltron that could combine *and* be piloted by figures. To date as far as I know, only the Toynami Altimite and the full size Playmates Legendary Defender even come close to that, and both of them just use little game piece minifigures.

    But in the show many times they only formed Voltron just to kill the robeast so the robeasts are kinda scaled to the lion But i still see the lack of a bigger enemy to show the force of Voltron.

    One of your funniest vids yet! I need to ask I am a teen who collects vintage toys I am considering collecting he man figures I have battle cat already and he is hollow are all the figures like that?

    • @retroblasting
      @retroblasting  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emmett Valla Thanks Emmett. Well, depends on how you define hollow in terms of action figure construction - they all have to be hollow to a degree to accommodate limb joints, but no they are dissimilar to Battle Cat.

    When I was a kid, I remember seeing the guy with the sculpted pet for sale, at that time I thought it was something exotic and never seen before (at least for me) today I just can think it is really a stingy decision to save a few coins.

    Hey B.V. if you commit an arson in the new place you can stay with me and I'll get your arms on! How you feel about Buffalo and Wings & Weck? Of course our sports teams can be worse than our winters.

    So we've established that Michael is actually afraid to reattach Vaders arms, right? 3 and 3/4 inch or not, Michael knows a Vader with functioning arms will end up as the Alpha male in the house,lol..

    I got the big Voltron for a good price from a Chinese guy at a flea market he had a bunch of Asian toys but the problem with Voltron was he has no robeasts to fight. And I never saw any of these vehicles and I wouldn't have liked them I had the Asian version with all the weapons, everyone I knew had that version I never saw the American version, the lions in the Japanese version didn't hold pilots

  • @pikapal91

    I know you're just showcasing your memories with this line as an adult collector, but as a kid couldn't you use your imagination and use Star Wars and GI Joe figures to defend the Lion Base? You said it yourself they were in perfect scale with those lines, and you're limited to your options so why not improvise?

      Tony Stark Imagine trying to recreate the battle of hoth as a child using only toys from MASK and my little pony........yeah......

    • @retroblasting
      @retroblasting  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony Stark In my original Voltron video, I discuss and show using Cloud Car Pilots to do so, but I'd also like to point you toward our Star Trek Lack of Khan video in which I discuss how the "use your imagination" response has no bearing on critiquing a specific toy line's history -- otherwise everything's awesome no matter how backward or how little effort a toy line demonstrated because imagination is there to "save the day." Let's put that aside for a moment and focus on objective analysis of Panosh Place's decisions.
