Some of these sins failed to acknowledge the things that the movie gave as explanation for some of the plot holes, that the animated one and others don't have. For example Cinderella poses the question to the fairy godmother, what will I do if they recognize me at the ball, and the Fairy Godmother puts that into the spell that no one will recognize her so that takes care of that plot hole. There is also a line in the movie where it said the slipper refused to fit any other person in the Kingdom besides Cinderella, which takes away that plot hole of the shoe size. Obviously, it's a fairytale, and not going to be realistic, but I did appreciate that they threw in a couple of lines in this remake that made it slightly more plausible.
Well, she sort of does get recognised by her stepmother in the animated version. Lady Tremaine KNEW it was Cinderella at the ball. That's why she locked her up in the tower.
VincentoValentine Yes but she only recognized her after she saw her humming the music from the ball. Before that there is a scene where she is struggling to recognize the mysterious princess.
The three couldn't get a look at her the stepmother caught a glimpse but wasn't sure until the humming.
Also, Fairy God Mother didnt make the slippers out of her old slippers they were new so that explains why they didnt change back. I love this channel but i am starting feel like he reaches on some movies just for content. I understand its satire but when its clearly explained in the movie its not as funny

In the original Fairy tale she had abnormally small feet, because her Stepsisters gave her wooden shoes to wear and even as she grew she never got any new ones. (And she only lost her shoe at the ball, because the prince had the stairs covered in tar and it got stuck)

I always assumed that the story behind every girl having to try on the slipper was this: No one except the prince knows what Cinderella looks like, so he tells them to bring back everyone who could have worn these particular slippers to the ball because that narrows it down somewhat, and then he could easily pick her out of a line-up. Easier than combing through the entire kingdom himself

yeah I think that's probably what the prince had in mind. But in the story it turns out no one else in the kingdom would fit the shoe...which is not possible considering shoe size is bound to be the same. So the explanation for that is the shoe is magical and it would only fit cinderella. Also gives cinderella some credibility since no one else could fit, it must be her without a doubt.

The slipper was magic. It didn't break when it fell down the stairs because the prince was going to need it to find her. Once the slipper had done its job, it could be broken.
That's a nice theory, but I'm going to politely disagree and call it lazy writing. I doubt the movie writers/producers ever intended to be that clever, and instead we're just left with a plot hole of convenience.

I feel like the heel-weak spot shouldn't have allowed her to run in it, either, since running in heels necessitates running *on* your heels or risk ankle-injuries by running on your toes trying not to catch the heel of the shoe. Meaning the pointy-heel of the shoe bears the pressure first, because trying to walk the other way would cause you to fall over. So it still doesn't make sense the slipper didn't break earlier.
But in any case, while I don't mind being provoked to thought by a movie, I object to having to do the writers' thinking for them. And that's what I felt like this movie made me do.
I'm sure we'll have to agree to disagree, because my interest in this topic has waned. I felt it would've been rude not to respond to your comment, but I'm frankly not interested enough to converse further about this point/the movie in general.

This was actually a good movie to me. One of the better live action remakes. It does the original justice and even addresses some of its criticisms. And Lily James and the guy who played the Prince had great chemistry.

You know how Maleficent actually changed the story and gave a new perspective to an old fairy tale? now i'm not saying I like Maleficent, but i might like THIS movie better if they had given the story some new perspective.
Like maybe show how the step-mother is only mean because she just lost the man she fell in love with! Not to mention this is the second husband she's lost. She is obviously gonna be kind of bitter and the movie never addresses that.
Moreover the step-sisters have no talent and aren't as pretty as Cinderella, and she's not even mean to them because she's so kind of a person. This probably lead to them lashing out because of their own insecurities, but again the movie doesn't show that. Seriously, little looks into the deeper reasons behind why these "villain" characters are so mean could've made this a much better movie.
+Apollo9898LPs If you're into video games at all, I recommend you check out Cinders. :) Not only it's a gorgeous visual novel, it also explores the psychology and motivation of both the step-mother and the step-sisters in the way you just described. It made them much more believable as human beings. I really liked it. :)
+Pica Ludica I second that! Cinders was a mature and phenomenally written story. I loved how it showed all the roles a woman can fit in society, and none be considered wrong. It didn't push any agenda, just promoted understanding.
+Pica Ludica Yes, I really Like Cinders. I don't own the game myself, but I have watched some Let's play videos on youtube to see where other people have directed the narrative. It really does give depth and psychology to the characters (both familiar and new). Another reason I like Cinders is a rather superficial point, but for once, it features a red-haired Cinderella character! I've always felt that Cinderella was a ginger character at heart because she's an underdog protagonist and I finally found a version fitting my image.

Okay, so according to an analysis done on the original story she(Cinderella) actually had an unusually small foot size(about a 5 in today's US system) but when it was written, that was abnormally small for a teen/young adult female. So it is actually possible for her to be the only one with that foot size who wasn't a child.
Actually, Snape's patronus was a DOE not a STAG. That's Harry's patronus. The difference being that a doe doesn't have horns and a stag does....
Neither have horns. Stags/bucks have antlers. And no, "antler" is not some specific form under the umbrella of "horn," it is a completely different structure.

If they start with that sin you know it's a movie they really didn't like. Their slogan is 'no movie is without sin' which means that they sin every movie. Even the ones they do like, and I think those are most of them.
Yeah, they're pretty clear that goodnatured nitpicking is their thing, but it's easy to tell when they genuinely disliked a movie.

I can believe that. After all the spell was more or less everything will return to how it was, but since the slippers were made out of nothing I guess they couldn't just return to nothing. Either that or the Fairy Godmother knew it was going to be needed.
Is that ever explained? I figured it was part of the original plan of the godmother... like she intended for the shoe to fall off and for it to fit no one so that the prince would prove his love cuz Cinderella’s a wimp or some other bullshit

Yea its a magic slipper it was made for her and only her. so I'm pretty sure other girls had her shoe size but the slipper would probs magically expand or shrink if it wasn't Cinderella who was wearing it.

I really love this movie. People always hate Cinderella for being “weak”. That is blatant victim-blaming. In the original, she was a young child who had just lost her mother and father in a short amount of time. This adult woman who was supposed to have been a mother figure then begins abusing her. I love how this version portrays her relationship with the step-family. Abuse doesn’t always suddenly begin. It is a long escalating process of negative behavior. Over the years, Cinderella was made to believe that her home life was normal as she had been carefully manipulated by the stepmother. Almost like anti-grooming.

TO BE FAIR, unlike in the cartoon, they DO cover why the stepmother and stepsisters don't recognize her. That's the only time I've seen a Cinderella movie cover that.
