Wheeling out a big cart of props and distributing them among the extras in that "go, look like you're doing something" must be a fun moment on set.

I got to do this a couple of times! Some friends and I got recruited as assorted freaks and weirdos for the first Judge Dredd movie. A lot of waiting, then we got the chance to act like a crowd. Which was more hanging around and waiting. Not being actors, it was strange when they yelled 'action' and then not acting, just carrying on chatting and doing what we were doing.

Yes, and sometimes they'll need to quickly cast somebody for a non-speaking role in whatever they're doing. That's how I got to be an incredibly aggravating kid in an educational film whose whole job was to annoy the hell out of the ref while he was talking to the camera.

I saw a funny tweet from a Star Trek actor who was a longtime Trekkie. The prop master came out with three props for him to use in a scene and was about to explain them when the actor said something like "That's a phaser, that's a bistatic phase disruptor, and that's a reverse energy decoupler. I got this."

I love worldbuilding in (science) fiction. I love watching people create worlds that are believable and coherent. Designing that backstory, the decisions if something ought to exist or not. The concept of a "lore book" is great: for the narrative the TV show, movie or book gives us, like "real life" there's 10,000 years of stuff that's already happened and that has to be taken into consideration. I haven't seen Silo yet but these glimpses make me want to!!

Well you know within the realm of Hollywood the sound department always have a finite sound cataloged of sounds to use. So yeah their are times when certain sounds that'll be reused. One extremely notable example is the Wilhelm scream. Since 1951 when it was first used it's been used in over 1000 movies and tv shows. Now it has become one of the biggest long running gags within the Hollywood industry.

If the shows is a hit and is going to be renewed for more seasons, key pieces will be reused. Other items will be sold or already belong to specialized prop companies. It might go to the studio or production companies prop room. Select pieces might be sent for auction. And the part he was talking about yelling at people refiling through the boxes of stuff projected not to be used again - staffers might want a souvenir (not supposed to do that but everyone wants objets de mémoire), they might want to cannibalize an existing object into another prop, or it just might be thrown out of it makes it through all the other diversionary processes and it's just something that's never going to be used again.

    Recreation with "stronger neodymium" magnets

And if the recreation proves successful, then could you create an oval track and to see if the force pushed out by one apparatus will overcome the gate of the next one?
I'm aware it shouldn't work and why it shouldn't work. But that first video is too interesting. I'm sure you have all the parts readily available as well.
