How to program an industrial point level switch

In this video, you will learn how to use the moneo|configure software to program the LMC series industrial point level switch from ifm, as well as, how to access the written instructions from the product datasheet on the ifm website. The LMC series from ifm uses impedance spectroscopy as the sensing principle, which measure the electric and magnetic field strength at multiple frequencies between 50-200 MHz. This technology reads 3 measurements that different media types impact in different ways, giving each a unique profile. The 3 measurements include:
• Attenuation of the electromagnetic field
• Conductance of the electric field
• Permittivity of the magnetic field
If the measurements match the profile, it will signal that the media is present. Without the presence of the media or if only residue is present, the profile won’t match the measurements. This means the LMC series is immune to residue buildup, splashes, and foam, making it more reliable in industrial applications than mechanical floats.
This sensor is designed to perform best in industrial applications where you need to measure high and low level points in tanks of either liquids or bulk solids. It also can protect pumps from run-dry conditions, eliminating downtime and maintenance costs by easily detecting the difference between media and residue. Another common application includes monitoring level in parts washers, where foam and debris would normally cause mechanical float switches to stick or break.
Using IO-Link technology, you can setup and store profiles for different media types to identify what media is currently in the tank. This is especially helpful during cleaning cycles, since you can use data over IO-Link to differentiate between the media itself, build-up on the sensing face, and washing cycle steps.
