  • The 1088AS 8x8 LED matrix (made of the finest Chineseum available) is a 16-pin display that operates in row and column select mode. Incredibly cheap and incredibly cool, and an incredible pain to work with because the pinout is as straightforward as my small intestine.

Dude, last year I used one of these on a 'pong' project with my kids, after they got bored of it I was like hmmmmm what else can I do with this?? Managed to find a 'similar' data sheet, and well, left it at that!
Thanks a heap for this vid, it was cool to see you moving the breadboard wires and the LED'S. (Like all those cross over lines in the Schem)
    Cheers

What happened to rows are horizontal and columns are vertical?

I Theorize that because of creating a bunch of rows in proper orderly order that it might have been more expensive. you remember that app puzzle game called flow free? you have to strategically place the wires. maybe they ran out of room on a single plane of connections and having the wires go over or under each other would cost more. That is just my thought. As funny as I think it is to think that some idiot designed it, I do find it hard to believe that somehow. but you never know. maybe it was a stupid person or an accident. (insert shrug emoji here)
