    Fantastic cruise along the canal. I love the music track (Hope), played in this. You wrote some really lovely chillout music.

    used to love walking our dogs along this stretch, kids used to love playing in the river when not in flood... there used to be a cottage where the river crossed many moons ago.. thanks for the vlog

    What a lovely trip down the canal. Would have liked to hear the water slipping by as your boat travelled. Very relaxing with the music. Thanks for sharing.

    The BBC would be daft not to air your films.
    Your work is brilliant.
    The sheep grazing on the sunny slope along the canal was especially touching.

    Great vlog... Don't suppose you can avoid bashing your boat with that flow.

      Thank you. It wasn't too bad, I just got washed up against the barrier a bit. Didn't hit the bridge. The hireboat was going quite a bit faster...and did!

      Yeah. Noticed the hire boat gave it a right thump.

    That river crossing of the canal is interesting - and quite a challenge.
    The issue of low clearances (unless one is in a UFO, of course) is also a challenge, and you've handled both well.
    Actually, the low headroom reminds me a bridge here (in south eastern Australia) that gets trucks stuck under it every couple of years or so, and the flooding around the canal at the start reminds me of Mackay, Queensland in the 1970s, which had six foot deep, open ditches beside roads that only emptied when the tide was out: whenever we got flooded (every wet season), one or two cars would wind up falling into the invisible (flood covered) ditches. At least I would suppose people know there is a canal under the floodwaters you filmed. (Mackay's 20' tide range also used to give us a tidal current of up to 4 to 6 knots to sail in, so I do appreciate how you handled that cross current :) )

    I’m really enjoying your vlogs - the Oxford winds it’s way through some beautiful countryside and most of the vlogs on TH-cam that I’ve seen confirm that but they very rarely stop and describe the scene in detail - thanks, looking forward to the next instalment

      Thank you. I make a point of not just showing the pretty bits. I like to include it all in its entirety, good and bad.

    A wise move to let the hire boat go ahead at the lock, can't imagine it's fun being tailgated on the canal... You don't happen to have a yellow submarine animation do you, that might be what that flying saucer is looking for : ).

    • @NarrowboatJourneys
      @NarrowboatJourneys  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hate being tailgated by any boat. I usually pull over and let them pass. :-)

    The hireboat driver looked like he was more used to go-carts than narrowboats. Also took off after stopping past the lock like he thought he was on a jet-ski at full throttle.
    Perhaps he had been transported to the boat from the flying saucer!

    Hi Often wondered why Ayno lock is that shape any idea's??

    • @NarrowboatJourneys
      @NarrowboatJourneys  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's only a small drop, so it's made extra wide to allow a larger volume of water through each time it's used.
