Hibiscus is awesome. Being of Mexican heritage 'agua de jamaica' (literally hibiscus water), hibiscus iced tea was something I drank. I had no idea it was so healthy. You can find loose hibiscus at Mexican grocery stores. The packaged might be labelled 'Jamaica'. FYI Jamaica in Spanish is pronounced Ha-my-cah. It's not pronounced like the country. Another thing. If I remember right hibiscus is a diuretic. So get ready to pee. :)

Let us not forget about the L theanine that is found in green tea. This helps to reduce anxiety and improve mood.
Even if Coffee has more anti oxidants than green tea it still tends to have too much caffeine which dis-regulates the adrenal glands.
Anti-oxidant levels alone is a poor measure for the health of a drink.
Good to know about hibiscus, thanks for making the vid.

I first learned about Hibiscus when I went to a Jamaican eatery. They had a punch with fresh fruit juices! WONDERFUL! Well, to my surprise some time later I discovered the tea was at my health food store! That has been about 3 years ago now. I make it alone or mix with green tea or add lime juice and pineapple juice (fresh) is really good! I even mix the tea in smoothies (with berries it is wonderful).

Something you might want to think about, while researching I came across several references concerning lead found in green tea. On one site- "All plants can absorb lead from the environment, but tea absorbs it more readily than other plants. Fortunately, only about 10% to 20% of the lead that’s in tea gets into the liquid portion-most stays trapped within the leaves. If you don’t swallow the leaves, your lead exposure will be minimal."

I'll have to try Zinger teas. I just don't like Hibiscus. Ive tried and I don't like Matcha, it's like eating grass. But I never knew about the green foam aaaannd I have mint growing all the time. Zinger tea with mint foam, gonna give it another whirl. Thanks Doc!

Believe me, I want to like those teas, and I go back from time to time to use again telling myself its good for me. But then if you don't care for something you have a tendency to bypass on it, even if its sitting in your fridge. So in all, find something you like and that's better than nothing at all or bad choices.

My question is: Does green tea sweetened with honey or cane sugar have the same anti-oxidant properties as unsweetened green tea? (in my opinion, high fructose corn syrup is much worse than cane sugar.) Also, sometimes i'll make green tea and sweeten it with glucose/dextrose.

Many common foods contain rich sources of polyphenols which have antioxidant properties only in test tube studies. As interpreted by the Linus Pauling Institute, dietary polyphenols have little or no direct antioxidant food value following digestion. Not like controlled test tube conditions, the fate of flavones or polyphenols in vivo shows they are poorly conserved (less than 5%), with most of what is absorbed existing as metabolites modified during digestion and destined for rapid excretion.
In other words antioxidants mean nothing, they don't show how healthy a food or beverage is vs. another. And while they might have tested 283 beverages most of them were junk. They didn't test nearly the herbal types of beverages drank around the world.

I’ve been drinking celestial seasonings wild berry zinger with lemon and stevia for a long time, (cold brewing) tastes like fruit punch.. my grandkids love it and always want me to make them some when they visit me.. I thought I was the only one who knew this yummy secret!! I knew it was healthy, but not more healthy (antioxidant rich) than matcha tea!!

Your expertise needed! Has anyone heard of Liquid I.V. was looking for information or studies on this "energy multiplier" powder. It is a (CTT) Cellular Transport Technology of the nutrients or rapid absorption design into the bloodstream. Any help or information would be appreciated!

Not sure of this, but the wild red berried sumac growing in many parts of the world may actually be higher - esp. if in the powdered form like they have in the Middle East. Like hibiscus tea, it is red and sour...needs sugar.

What about red rooibos in comparison? And would a mix of antioxidant rich teas be best as all contain unique phytonutrients, as antioxidants are not all important?

I still prefer green tea, yes i know hibiscus has more anti antioxidants but green tea is the better for weight loss, and lately i have been drinking matcha and its good.

My only problem with all the hibiscus and citrus stuff is the damage it must do to ones tooth enamel. And I'm not going to drink the stuff using a straw.

As the good doctor has posted in the past, swish your mouth with water after consuming beverages such as hibiscus tea. Concern solved.

Jon Hunter just rinse your mouth with plain water afterwards... Don't think this would be nearly as bad as tooth whitening products?!
