Physical movement is tricky to stitch together for scene editing unless highly choreographed, so that’s why few actors get to move their bodies freely in scenes. I agree that the museum scene was lame. Could have been so much less awkward.
I think it really stood out in that scene too because when you go to a museum everyone pretty much has the same 3 arm poses: Hands clasped behind back. Arms crossed. One arm crossed/one hand on chin. Nobody walks around with their arms hanging straight down like a default pose for a Barbie doll. It's not like they had to gesticulate wildly, just pick one of those three poses and it would have made the scene a lot more natural. 😅

his acting definitely stood out to me in this movie and idk if thats because my expectations were so low based on other terrible movies i had seen from him LOL
@@withcindy exactly!! I think many people went in to the movie not expecting much considering the other crappy adaptations we got. But it was really enjoyable and the actors did so well too. It really got me thinking that sometimes it isn’t just that the actors are bad but are simply given bad scripts and dialogue.
Nicholas Galitzine really won me back over with this movie, I absolutely hated Purple Hearts his character in it (not to mention the Cinderella disaster) but damn he was so good in this and his chemistry with Taylor Perez was SO PALPABLE. "a white man with princess peach lips" the way I spit out my wine
"It costs you nothing!" Given that Henry then mentions Alex's family, he means that for Alex, everything could come crashing down for him career-wise but at the end of the day, his family & friends will support & love him. We saw how incredibly progressive his parents are. But from Henry's POV, only his sister will still love him AT BEST. He has good reason to imagine the rest of his family will ostracize him. Also, yes, royals don't do shit but the idea of Henry is that if for some reason, his brother dies or he doesn't have kids, Henry is next in line AND the next chance at producing an heir (he clarified himself as the "spare" when they got caught in the hotel). Again, as dumb as all of it is, imagine that kind of thinking being ingrained on you since you were a baby ("I have CENTURIES of history resting on my shoulders!") I think the easiest way to understand these characters (and thus the plot and to a certain extent, the script) is to notice that Alex is depicted as a stereotypical American: optimistic & very free in his life. Even his own mom told him to be more realistic when he insisted on her putting effort into winning Texas. Henry is a stereotypical European: traditional & a realist. He told his sister that the monarchy is antiquated (mind you, he says this specifically after he leaves Alex) but also tells Alex they can't be together because of the monarchy, therefore the *only* way (in his mind) to be able to be with Alex is not to be royalty. Edited for further clarity. Apologies if it just makes the comment longer. And wow thank you for likes everyone! ❤🤍💙
I’m so happy that LGBTQ+ dramas like Pose and wholesome romances like RW&RB and Heartstopper have been able to receive widespread acclaim. I hope that their huge success leads to studios creating more LGTBQ+ positive content that can indirectly fight back against the anti-LGBTQ+ politics that have been plaguing society lately.
i love how everyone who’s watched this movie is like “i hate how this isn’t shit”. it seems to be international because yesterday i watched a brazilian youtuber review this and his first statement was abt how surprised he was that two men who were in amazon’s cinderella and the kissing booth ended up starting in a movie that isn’t shit
It's so funny to me that Cindy is unintendedly going through Nicholas Galitzine's filmography with these videos, I bet that's how he chooses his projects, the likelyhood of a withcindy rection
Marco finally got over Elle, and found a new identity as the President's son. Meanwhile, Luke left Cassie and the military behind, and became a Prince. It's great to see these actors star in much better movies.
@yamamoto2221 he takes anything fr 😭his filmography is ridiculously diverse (in a funny and good way) but i'll be watching anyways and anne hathaway starring as the female lead is a huge plus
I really enjoyed the movie, but I gotta say that Henry owes my doctor a copay. The whiplash I felt when I realized he was also the lead in Purple Hearts was intense.
I don't think the acting was bad, most cringy moments were more of a directing and writing thing, the actors can only do so much with the material they're given lmfao
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. The bisexual disaster rep was truly what I needed. As a peace sign bisexual myself, having Alex be one really warmed my heart. I need these two actors to appear in more together. They worked so well together and the chemistry gave me butterflies.
Hey, we’re trying! Biden got 46.48% of the popular vote in the last election. Honestly the Texas politics part of the book was probably my fave. As a bi Mexican it really is one of my biggest fantasies to see us go blue some day. 😭

Taylor and Nicholas have finally redeemed themselves. everybody cheered 🎉 on a serious note, this movie is such an easy watch, it’s corny and unrealistic in places but endearing and cute. it has romance, drama & humour. escapism movie, if you will. also the chemistry between the actors is off the charts!!! the boys really came through with this one 😏

Cindy, the book is SO MUCH better than the movie! I mean, don't get me wrong, the movie was INCREDIBLE but they erased so much stuff, like Alex's sister (June) and several other subplots. Also, that scene with the crowd in front of the palace will always make me cry :( It's true, this movie was a pure form of escapism, and I wish we lived in a utopian world like this where we're all accepted by society for our queerness

I've found out that Nora (Alex's best friend) is actually bissexual in the book, I wished they hadn't erased that in the movie, they could've at least mentioned it casually
Was she though ? It's so unrealistic for both brother and sister to be queer and in same sex relationship ...that's weird .the book definitely wanted to be very queer and pander to his queer viewers alot.
@leelee407 Since when is it unrealistic? families don't have a queer cota. Besides, it is a queer book written by a queer person and for a queer audience...
I swear I'm so annoyed the movie didn't go into Henry's grief more because in the book it's so clear that it's not just "he is cute with kids so he's a good guy". Henry specifically made the choice to go to that hospital because his dad died of cancer. (okay it still kind of is the "he's a good guy because he's nice to kids" thing but there's a bit more to it)
This movie has been my comfort during these last few days, as has the book, ever since it came out. The love I have for this story is immeasurable. Most of all for Taylor, actually. I've been a fan of his for years now, and everything he does and supports (foundations, brands etc) makes me admire him even more. Nick is a blessing to watch, and honestly, everyone involved in making this movie deserves a standing ovation on a daily basis.
@@withcindy I 100% agree! And, Nicholas is actually a really good singer. In the karaoke scene, he's pretending not to sing well because in the book, Henry butchers the song with his bad singing. This movie has a lot of heart and genuine sweetness to it. I hope they make a sequel or something, even though the book itself is a standalone (as of now, I mean).
@@SanaKhatri Even if the book is standalone, the Henry chapter in the collectors edition covers SO MUCH they could easily make a sequel just working with everything we find out happens in there.
As a Brit, I entirely agree with your opinions on the last scene. That scene was the one that I genuinely laughed out loud at coz I felt it was so stupid. Like the British queer community is not exactly known for their love of the monarchy. Defo some gays like the monarchy, but a lot of ppl have quite conflicted feelings on them, esp during this cost of living crisis where the coronation involved multiple robes which were each worth the price of a house…

I wish they would've kept the part of the story where Alex had his bi awakening after Henry kissed him. It was so relatible. Cindy would've probably liked it.
@@withcindy Yes! Alex does one of those "I can't find the signs... there was my friend in school that I used to make out with when we'd get drunk together... Where were the signs??"
The scene where they are making romantic eye contact while everyone is dropping it low absolutely sent me. I had to pause the movie because I couldn’t stop laughing at the absurdity. But like really it gives such millennial energy 🤣
This is the start of the author note in the book: "I came up with the idea for this book on an I-10 off-ramp in early 2016, and I never imagined what it would turn out to be. I mean, at that point I couldn’t imagine what 2016 itself would turn out to be. Yikes. For months after November, I gave up on writing this book. Suddenly what was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek parallel universe needed to be escapist, trauma-soothing, alternate-but-realistic reality. Not a perfect world-one still believably fucked up, just a little better, a little more optimistic. I wasn’t sure I was up to the task. I hoped I was. What I hoped to do, and what I hope I have done with this book by the time you’ve finished it, my dear reader, is to be a spark of joy and hope you needed." I think the movie did well to stay true to this goal. There are a lot of things not addressed and stuff, but it is a supposed to be a fun escapist rom com.
Tbh, the funniest part about the RWRB movie was seeing people's opinion change before the movie had even come out. I'm not sure if it had to do with how my algorithm on tiktok worked (though I doubt it because I've seen most people on tumblr complaining and tumblr doesn't even have an algorithm as of now), but especially after the cast was announced there was so much negativity and people were pretty unanimous in the fact that the movie would be bad. Then, like, two or three months before it was released, the marketing team really just rolled up their sleeves and decided that "we're going to show them how good this really is" and after a bunch of teasers and *checks notes* instagram accounts for the fictional characters was released, it seems like people just changed their minds??? (As someone who did get a bachelor degree in communication, I've really enjoyed seeing what they've done to change public opinion. Also, the instagram accounts are genius!)
It was Amazon fault sorry not sorry 👀. I was the one of "they have not chemistry" fan and after trailer I changed my mind completely. 1.They werent allowed to post pictures in costumes, no behind the scenes, no nothing 2. No interviews before June and the one with gq seems questionable before i knew them and their vibe together in the movie and irl 3. The fact Amazon before the trailer only show us some maybe 20s videos of them which tell us nothing about the movie +the messages like? 4. Height video with Casey seems dry and in fact is still dry but yeah One thing which helps fans to know them better as a Henry & Alex and believe their chemistry was One :ig accounts (but they appeared only about 2 weeks before the movie) Two : early screenings and Twitter stan accounts(i love them even now) Three :interviews with Matthew, Nicholas, Taylor which appeared before and after movie was published So I wouldnt say it is Amazon who promoted the movie in the best way but fans and the director, in fact I started to change my mind about their chemistry after I watched at least 10 trailer reactions videos from fans so yeah. Later reddit was a big factor for me to appreciate their acting, their chemistry and the movie =so still fans and not Amazon.
Some of the things that seemed kind of random in the movie, really made sense in the book. Their time near the end at the Victoria and Albert museum is like a perfect example. You see a lot more about their letters in the book, and it made the V&A scene make more sense. Also, the fact they had to cut out Alex's sister June was just sad. I loved June. I wish they had done this like a limited 6 episode series or something, but i am sure it was all budget focused.
I was disappointed they didn’t include more of the emails because they were the heart of the book, imo. Calling the scandal the Waterloo Letters doesn’t even make sense without the context of them discussing that in their emails
Reactors not recognising Stephen Fry is killing me. I almost choked when he showed up. Just casting him in that role was hilarious!!! Same with him doing the announcements in Heartstopper 1 and 2!
12:10 Gay yearning knows no bounds. Also, that man survived an Ed Sheeran song played twice in the Cinderella movie, he is *desensitized*. 18:06 There was a Twitter thread of a girl realizing the same thing, I'm not kidding.

Cindy continuing to produce some of the highest quality review content in her pajamas is both intimidating and reassuring for me. Like obv Cindy is very impressive and has so many skills but also very relatable?
I kinda regret reading the book before watching the movie because there were a bunch of characters that were scrapped in the movie (June, Rafael Luna) who would’ve given the characters more depth in their personality in this movie. Still bitter we didn’t get to see the full experience of them exchanging love letters thru email but this movie is great! The book is better imo. Huge fan of Cindy btw
I’m so glad you are reacting to this!! I’ve been hoping you would react to this. Top tier commentary and analysis along with clever humor about queer movies. The first movie I saw Nicholas in was “handsome devil” which is about two gay youths, glad to see him going back into that genre he did really well in that movie and this new movie as well.
That movie is great! Reading the comments, I think I’m glad that’s the only other film I’ve seen Nick in. I get to live in this fantasy where he’s simply the guy who plays emotional gays trying to reconcile that identity with their life lol
17:30 I feel like in that scene Henry doesn't talk about having important responsibilities as the prince. What he means is that everyone in the country feels like they have a right to him. That they own him somehow. They don't see him as his own person, they see him as "Henry, the prince of England". They see him as "their prince". And that entails the image they project on him. I think that he's afraid that if he ever breaks away from that image, everyone will take it as a personal slight and will give him so much sh*t for it. Way more than he would get if he was just "an anonymous person in the world".
honestly this movie is just… silly 😭 but honestly it’s not a bad thing, it’s sweet and a little stupid but that just kinda makes it loveable and charming lol
After seeing Bottoms, I doubt Nicholas cared that much about his project choices. It seems he just casually grabs any opportunities he gets here & there. I love the versatility & will try my very best to gatekeep this guy 😂
Nicholas Galatzine is an incredibly expressive actor. I think he should get much more recognition and attention. He is capable of playing characterful serious roles as well as giving special meaning to simple entertainment. I would love to see him as the new James Bond and in a Jane Austen novel adaptation. The chemistry between the two leads is very good in this film and I love the tasteful portrayal of the sex scenes.
your entire reaction felt like the personification of that dog meme that says "i know what you are" and i mean this as the best compliment like you're so funny
the thing about the british royal family is that if you are connected to the royal family then you do have to put on a role etc. and you actually have no access to any royal money + you have no money of your own because you've never had a job, and if you do anything wrong they're completely to lock you in the palace and take away things like your phone/other devices that give you access to the outside world (which happened to meghan markle before she left). the only way you wouldn't be under those restraints is if you completely give up your title which can be difficult because, again, you have no money or home after they take all of that away.
Are you also aware that Meghan cost the most money on her outfits in her short time being in the Royal family than any other royal family in the world at the time. More than literal queens.
i love how anyone who hasn’t seen handsome devil thought nicholas wouldn’t be able to be henry and im so glad he’s receiving such praise for this, although as a book reader i didn’t care for the changes, but if i view it as a standalone film i did love it.

Henry’s actor did so good?? Like I could feel everything he was feeling. Idk if it’s just me but it felt like he had so much anxiety? As someone who suffers from really bad anxiety everyday I really just wanted to hug him and tell him that everything is gonna be okay 🥺🤍
his acting definitely stood out to me in this movie and idk if thats because my expectations were so low based on other terrible movies i had seen from him LOL

"a white man with princess peach lips" the way I spit out my wine
he pleasantly surprised me as well! i thought i would still see him as his purple hearts character, but he embodied the prince role well
"It costs you nothing!"
Given that Henry then mentions Alex's family, he means that for Alex, everything could come crashing down for him career-wise but at the end of the day, his family & friends will support & love him.
Again, as dumb as all of it is, imagine that kind of thinking being ingrained on you since you were a baby ("I have CENTURIES of history resting on my shoulders!")
I think the easiest way to understand these characters (and thus the plot and to a certain extent, the script) is to notice that Alex is depicted as a stereotypical American: optimistic & very free in his life.

Henry specifically made the choice to go to that hospital because his dad died of cancer. (okay it still kind of is the "he's a good guy because he's nice to kids" thing but there's a bit more to it)

I’m a queer type one diabetic and let me say “Purple Hearts” is a hate crime.
I couldn’t even pay attention to the rest of the movie because I was so fixated on how she injected her insulin.
This is the start of the author note in the book:
"I came up with the idea for this book on an I-10 off-ramp in early 2016, and I never imagined what it would turn out to be. What I hoped to do, and what I hope I have done with this book by the time you’ve finished it, my dear reader, is to be a spark of joy and hope you needed."
I think the movie did well to stay true to this goal. There are a lot of things not addressed and stuff, but it is a supposed to be a fun escapist rom com.
It really is a white liberal fantasy but sometimes that's nice to have 🤧
Tbh, the funniest part about the RWRB movie was seeing people's opinion change before the movie had even come out.
Also, the instagram accounts are genius!)
im glad the movie changed public opinion! they really had a low bar and then exceeded it lol
It was Amazon fault sorry not sorry 👀. I was the one of "they have not chemistry" fan and after trailer I changed my mind completely.
1.They werent allowed to post pictures in costumes, no behind the scenes, no nothing
2. No interviews before June and the one with gq seems questionable before i knew them and their vibe together in the movie and irl
3. The fact Amazon before the trailer only show us some maybe 20s videos of them which tell us nothing about the movie +the messages like?
4. Height video with Casey seems dry and in fact is still dry but yeah
One thing which helps fans to know them better as a Henry & Alex and believe their chemistry was
One :ig accounts (but they appeared only about 2 weeks before the movie)
Two : early screenings and Twitter stan accounts(i love them even now)
Three :interviews with Matthew, Nicholas, Taylor which appeared before and after movie was published
So I wouldnt say it is Amazon who promoted the movie in the best way but fans and the director, in fact I started to change my mind about their chemistry after I watched at least 10 trailer reactions videos from fans so yeah.
Later reddit was a big factor for me to appreciate their acting, their chemistry and the movie =so still fans and not Amazon.

I feel like in that scene Henry doesn't talk about having important responsibilities as the prince. Way more than he would get if he was just "an anonymous person in the world".

the thing about the british royal family is that if you are connected to the royal family then you do have to put on a role etc. and you actually have no access to any royal money + you have no money of your own because you've never had a job, and if you do anything wrong they're completely to lock you in the palace and take away things like your phone/other devices that give you access to the outside world (which happened to meghan markle before she left). the only way you wouldn't be under those restraints is if you completely give up your title which can be difficult because, again, you have no money or home after they take all of that away.
