    Somehow, Alan becomes even more quintessentially Alan when he takes the quizmaster's chair.

    They obviously set this up, but I'll bet they told Alan and Stephen to keep it a secret from each other. Stephen did suddenly look a bit concerned when he realised Alan had prepared for this moment, obviously thought he could call his bluff.

    His point was that the term "sacred" has a specific meaning and it does not fit how Hindus perceive the cow. They are revered, and killing one is taboo, but they are not considered to be divine and are not worshiped as gods or god-like, which is what it means to be "sacred". When someone says that cows are sacred to Hindu they are using the wrong word.

      Your right but also wrong the same as Alan as sacred is a Christian term and as you know there are Indians who are Christians and there is a lot of Muslims who have some of same beliefs since both religions stem from Judaism (note not Judaism but there source)

    Whenever they tape the last-ever episode of Q.I. (Zenith?!), I vote for Phil Jupitus to be one of the last two panelists they have on the show (Stephen Fry being the third!). He contributes so much when he's on!

    Poor Alan though. Stephen lets himself get set up like that, deliberately gives some of the answers he knows will set the klaxon off, and ends up with MINUS 56:
    BUT IS STILL ONLY 4 POINTS BEHIND ALAN, who must have had a disastrous show up to that point!

    Water in a sink or toilet doesn't go in any specific direction based on hemisphere. The Coriolis Force is real, but it only applies to objects like hurricanes. When Stephen says he pushes the water to go the other way, he means that he's tried getting water to drain both clockwise and anticlockwise, and that both directions worked. Since his sink is in England, in the Northern Hemisphere, Stephen concluded that hemisphere doesn't have the purported effect upon drainage.

    The obvious scripting is most likely for comic effect since Stephen is so intelligent that quite often he will put down the cards and tell facts from memory or go a bit further with the info he has been given and add his own knowledge. You can see that Stephen is doing what Alan does sometimes and getting the obvious answers out of the way, so overall it is a satire of themselves. Well, that is what I see, anyway.

    • @junbh2
      @junbh2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL, quite often the 'facts' Fry gives are wrong though. He's so good at sounding convincing but when he happens to talk about something you happen to know well, you suddenly realise just how much he's BS-ing.

    they might not be sacred, but they sure are holy... thus the term "holy cow" (and BTW they most certainly are represented in temples, just not as the deity, but as their vehicle, and as such some of the sacredness gets passed onto them)

    Anyway loved this episode, there should be one where alan is the quizmaster throughout the episode and steven is on the panel!!

    I think QI is scripted to a point, but so much of the stuff on the show has got to be off the cuff. While I think Alan and Stephen both knew that Alan was going to take over as quizmaster, I honestly don't think that Stephen knew the questions in advance. Obviously the show did or the buzzers wouldn't have gone off when Stephen gave the obvious, wrong answers.

      The Coriolis effect only occurs to large bodies of water. The amount of water in your sink is too small to be affected by that, and is more likely influenced by other factors, eg the shape of your sink.

    Could someone explain why "FRY CAMBRIDGE" was funny?

    • @ahlpym
      @ahlpym 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was an episode (maybe this one?) where each buzzer announced the contestant's name and place of study. I imagine Stephen Fry studied at Cambridge, and Phill was parodying the buzzer pattern.

    • @xXLoonoeXx
      @xXLoonoeXx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Larsen Wasn't this one. Maybe it's like a shitty school game show, where you have to say your name and school before answering?

    The part about cows is wrong. Since the coronation of the Modi regime in 2014 people have been killed for eating beef. Even possession of meat has led to lynching. The largest victims have been the Dalits and Muslims.
