    I always feel encouraged with these videos, because when I see something THIS far gone, it gets fixed up one small step at a time....and it makes me feel better about big messy projects I have here. My current "messy" project is a 1961Seeburg Jukebox that hadn't been working for 30 years. It's getting closer each day. I wish the Jukebox techs showed the same kindness as guitar amp techs. When I was a rookie at guitar amps, I got lots of great help. In the jukebox world it seems to be "buy my book or go away"..... I'm dyslexic dammit!, books are torture. One dude made some DVD's on the topics I need, hopefully that is going to be the ticket. I'm not dumb, I just learn differently. Your video series makes me NOT afraid to try out fixing up a pinball if one comes up in the auctions for chump change. I like to fix things, but I don't learn well from manuals and reading. I can use the diagrams, but a visual "how to test" is the best tool I could ask for!

    The rectifier board, solenoid board, and MPU board all have those little plastic "padlocks" on them. So there should be someone's company name on those padlocks to tell you who worked on those boards.

    I'm just rebuilding a stars now too. Had to do a cabinet swap, it was sitting on a wet floor and rotted. I took a memory lane cabinet and painted and re stenciled.

    Thanks for the shoutout my buddy Ron, I know-lol! Actually Joe is partly right. Big Daddy Kane's "Ain't No Half Steppin'" did reach number 52 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart. Billboard in 1988 didn't put out rap charts. Largely but not totally because they thought Rap Music was a fad like Disco music. I don't know the exact year Billboard started making rap charts. They certainly had them in the early to mid 200O's. My job at the Newspaper was to input all the various charts like Country, Pop, Rap singles and albums into the system. The charts would be listed in the Sunday edition of the Newspaper. Great video and this Stern is cleaning up and coming along nicely.

      @@LyonsArcade Thanks for the tip. Since finding this channel, I've been literally glued to the videos. I think I had 4 hours under my belt last night. Wife is looking at me funny. I work on automated equipment in contact lens manufacturing. If a servo drive goes bad, we replace the whole drive. We will send it out for repairs and never dive in to the component level like you do. I think I can troubleshoot the more simple things. When it comes to determining if a component is bad on a board, I'll be lost. I took AC and DC circuits in college a million years ago and designed simple circuits. I remember the 555 timer. My lab partner and I thought we were cool calling it the tri-5. Anyway, I'll watch the video you suggest. Thanks.

    The reason that the boards and displays of Bally and Stern Electronics are so similar is that when Sam and Gary Stern bought Chicago Coin and founded Stern Electronics they purchased several other companies as well. One of the companies they bought was URL Laboratories the people who designed the boardset for Bally. This basically gave them a back door to the design.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for the info, I didn't know URL Laboratories had done them.... do we know for sure (I've heard both ways) if they had Bally's permission ahead of time?

    • @charlesn898
      @charlesn898 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LyonsArcade That's a good question. Either Bally didn't care about what Stern did or (more likely IMHO) some sort of arrangement or understanding was reached between the two.

      Repair tags from previous repair work, to stop people with multiple units, trying to get a warranty repair on a recently repaired board. They lock on and cant easily be removed without it being obvious, they have a number stamped on them, which relates to the repair. Without them if you had another identical board fail in a different machine you could send that back and say the repair failed and try and claim another repair under the repair warranty.

      At least all of the electronics are there. The "Flight 2000" he worked on later was missing the entire power supply, the lockdown bar, a few components on the playfield and one of the boards.

    how ugly is this. You could also heat the house with that wood ? i would be interested how you repaint the playfield. I see a similar star trek pinball next to me with almost no colors on the board anymore...
