These subs seem weird. Circle Principle should be Law of the Cycle and "monster" should have been "wraith" just to name some examples.

We noticed that too! For the most part we understood what they meant though 😊

Yeah, those subtitles were hella trash. Shes were hes, wraiths were monsters, "s" was left off a few words. I've seen this movie way more times than i could xount, and this copy had ne second-guessing it they meant witch, wraith or nightmare. I just feel sad for ya'll, to struggle for context ina moviethat is already "WTF?!?" at the best of times.
Also home girl was looking all around at times. You mias something in a Madoka anime, you might never understand it!

We understood for the most part that “monsters” were wraiths. I have seen the movie before and idk I didn’t feel like a lot of things changed with the subs. The movie is no longer in any platform that I pay for so we kinda had to settle unfortunately :(

41:45 and 43:30 I don't think ya'll understood the stakes of that fight. You said Homura would be best if she died, and you said "Madoka, don't!" The entire point of the fight against Homura was to break her free of Kyubey's bullshite, and let her die at Madoka's hands. Not fighting Homura would mean she stays a self-loathing Witch, punishing herself, in her Soul Gem forever. The cruelest thing would be to let "Homura do what she wants." "Stop, Madoka. You stupid bitch." If that happened, it would end horribly for ALL of them. Homura just wants it this way so that the Incubators can't take control of Madoka. The only reason Madoka didn't get captured was due to their plan to destroy the isolation chamber of Kyubey's.

    • @DoubleTakeYT
      @DoubleTakeYT  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah I guess we didn’t really understand the consequences. We both kinda figured that if they broke homura free, kyubey would have access to Madoka. If that were the case then homura dying in that isolation field maybe could have been the better choice 🤷

@@DoubleTakeYTYou're not completely wrong, this is a fair take. Because of this experiment in the Isolation Field, the Incubators now know that The Law of Cycles genuinely exists and that she was once a girl called 'Madoka Kaname'. Even though Madoka and Homura had killed most of the Incubators observing the experiment, the entire race is a hivemind so they all know this information.
So if Homura had been broken free and Madoka had taken her away to magical girl heaven (which was going to happen until Homura grabbed her hands), there was always a chance that the Incubators would repeat the experiment with another magical girl and use that to learn more about The Law of Cycles and eventually take control of it... ultimately resulting in them trying to turn all magical girls into witches. *If* this were to happen, Madoka's wish would be for nothing. But we don't know if it would because it's also possible that Madoka had a contingency plan in mind to handle this (remember, she's a literal principle of the universe - a omnipresent and supposedly omniscient being).
Regardless, subjecting Homura to an eternal life of literal torture as a witch simply for Madoka's sake would be inhumane and horrific. Being a witch is the pinnacle of human despair. Homura would spend the rest of time endlessly killing herself (in the film, her own minions are marching her witch towards the guillotine to be executed - background material confirms that this would repeat forever and ever). Homura should not have to take on such a cruel and unnecessary burden alone, which is why Sayaka (who knows the pain of being a witch) is the one who leads the battle against her and tells her to rely on them (her friends) to help her as well. And perhaps most notably, Madoka herself would *never* want Homura to suffer like that for her sake.

@@yuratchkaplisetskys3063I wonder how the new movie is gonna play off of this. At the end Kyubey said that human emotion is something they cant control and shouldn’t even try. It seems like that would be the end of the Madoka story 🧐

This movie is definitely one of my all-time favorites because of the animation, music, imagery, symbolism, foreshadowing, etc. It's all so good and well done. Kind of sucks that the subs were bad.
So, basically what happened was that after the events of episode 12, Homura's despair started to grow as she longed for Madoka, and started to doubt if her memories were even real since she was the only one who remembered Madoka. Her soul gem started to get corrupted and she was about to turn into a witch, but the Incubators put an Isolation Field around her gem where a labyrinth is then created inside of it. The Incubators' whole goal was to try and be able to control Madoka(The Law of the Cycles) by studying her within Homura’s labyrinth and have magical girls turn back into witches and collect vast amounts of energy. Once Homura realizes this she tries to foil the incubators' plans by becoming a witch instead of calling out for Madoka so that they couldn't control her. Instead, Madoka and her friends free Homura from the Isolation field and try to take her away before she becomes a witch. Madoka is about to take Homura away before she turns into a witch like she did with Sayaka however, Homura sees this as an opportunity to give Madoka a normal life again and be with her friends and family again. Homura made this decision from the whole conversation between her and Madoka in the flower field scene with Madoka saying her true feelings about not wanting to go where she would never be able to see anybody again and that she would be sad if she had to make that choice. The whole point was to show that Madoka was very lonely as a god. (Even the director himself said that "a human becoming a god" might be too heavy a fate for a girl in middle school to bear.) Homura separates a part of Madoka from her god form(The Law of the Cycles), bringing her down to earth and rewriting the universe. Homura said it herself; Her soul gem wasn't being tainted by despair/obsession or any of these negative emotions. It was purely love which is why she was able to transform into what she calls a Devil instead of a witch.

Also, I honestly don’t think Homura is evil, I think she has just convinced herself through her own self-hatred and suicidal ideations that she doesn't deserve to be loved. Hell, even her own familiars the Clara Dolls, who represent her own emotions, were mocking her, throwing tomatoes at her, and talking shit about her too. It makes it very obvious to see that Homura views herself in a very negative light. It's still incredibly wrong what she did, but I think it's important to consider that Homura rewrote the universe not out of a self-centered desire to keep Madoka all to herself, but rather because she thinks that everyone else, except her, deserves to live in a happy paradise, free from the worries of witches or wraiths or the Incubators. The only one left unhappy at the end of Rebellion, besides Kyubey, is Homura herself. She has to watch everyone else live a happy and normal life; a world that she cannot participate in, and I think that's done intentional as a punishment for herself. She thinks that she doesn’t deserve happiness, and the whole 'I'm evil now' thing is just her putting on a facade the same way she did with her cold exterior in the show, only this time it's her playing the role of the villain because that's all she thinks she can be at this point. Honestly, it's going to be very interesting to see how they will handle and what they will do with Homura’s character in the next movie.

First of all, thank you for writing out such a great summary of the movie! We both really appreciate it 🫰🏼One thing I love about the Madoka fandom is how involved and in love they are with the story!!
Honestly the first couple times I (Chyoo) watched this, I loved it because it was a Madoka product. Watching it this time I went in with a different mindset and just genuinely loved every aspect of it. Like you said, the whole production and all it’s pieces together makes this one of my favorite movies ever now.
Interesting point on the Clara dolls I never noticed that but it does change my whole view on homura a bit 🤯 I definitely feel bad that she has been through SOOOO much and has been alone through all of it. I don’t think she’s evil either. That was more for the memes ☺️
I can’t wait to see where they take the story next. I’m sure they won’t disappoint!🩷🖤

@@DoubleTakeYT Thank you :) Rebellion is one of those movies that is very near and dear to my heart. There's just so much to discuss and talk about. Like how the whole story of rebellion is very much inspired by the story of The Nutcracker with Homura's witch, Homulilly, literally being called the nutcracker witch or how Madoka's line in the Cake Song foreshadows the twist at the end of the movie of Homura undermining Ultimate Madoka and ripping her in half and rewriting the world so everyone is alive and happy, along with the symbolic elements of the food and how the food represents each of the girls. Even the transformations scenes have so much symbolism and foreshadowing. And that was barely scratching the surface. Like, this movie has SO MUCH stuff you can analyze and fans are still finding new stuff in this movie, to this day, ITS CRAZY!

One of my all time favourite movies, so glad you guys got round to watching it! I gotta say though, and I know its been pointed out, but where on earth did those subs come from? This movie is not the easiest to understand on the first viewing at the best of times & getting the translation right is so important, and that’s gotta be the worst translation I’ve ever seen put for the subs haha

Ya'll should have watched Magia Record, the Madoka Side Story anime. Same umiverse, WAY more intricate story, but with different (mostly) Puella Magis.
Also, Magical Girl Raising Project was a triiiiiip. I really enjoyed it, even though I almost needed therapy after seeing it.
