So true. I don't know how to describe it. But like what +Steve E said. It reminds us when the people at the facility died and makes us sad by the song. And what else that really makes me sad is that they died trying to achieve their dreams. Some died during it, some got eatan alive by those beasts. Went so well, than went to hell and brought them all with it. It reminds us that we are human and we have feelings regardless of games and real life games.
I can only imagine this theme playing when Gordon's walking through city 17 for the first time. Looking at what the combine have done, the humans suffering, no children and no the drainage of resources. Than once he gets his crowbar and H.E.V suit. He thinks to himself, (it's time to fix the mistake I created)
Every time I hear this theme, I'm instantly reminded of that CNN/HLN series Forensic Files. I heard a similiar tune on it that made me think of how everything went wrong at Black Mesa. If it weren't a crime documentary show and more like the X-Files I can totally picture Black Mesa being on TV as some kind of adaption.
Joel Nielsen is an artist. This song fits the setting so well, it fits the new, even darker, more grim atmosphere that Crowbar Collective gave Half-Life in Black Mesa. I mean, in the original game, after the actual cascade in the reactor, walking out of it, it was dark, but this game, especially with the great new graphics and detail makes it dark, dreary and tragic on a new level. I remember hearing this song, or one mix of it, at the part around where you get the Python .357 and you see the televisions and hear the evacuation broadcasting on the radio, it's freaking depressing and scary, like you just want to get out, and you think about all the people, in the facility, and outside of the facility, people just living nearby, and their families even. And after you leave the reactor, when you walk out and you see the guard who you just met with like five minutes before, is on the ground, covered in blood, not breathing, and that scientist that just doesn't want to let him die. This was in HL1 but seeing it depicted this way was, again, upsetting on a new level. Crowbar has made the game and setting a deal more emotional than the original was, I think, and I mean that in a good way. I love the soundtrack for this game, this song in particular. And now, after so long, we're getting Xen. I mean, not quite yet, but it's coming, and it feels so soon, just having an actual target date for summer next year :D
One thing Black Mesa did that I don't think was accurately depicted in the original Half-Life was the tragedy of it all. It showed a much more deeply personal and emotional side of the resonance cascade, along with the darker atmosphere that just fits _so well_ with the incident.
When I hear this I think of my bird that died. He died when I was only nine years old. This song just reminds me of him. He had of a heart attack in the morning right before I had to go to school. I was so worried at school I couldn't concentrate. When I got home my parents told me the bad news.
The music fits the facility so well. The start of it all, and that last dying hope of those scientists, thinking they will be saved.. What has science done? Dragged the world of half life into hell, Head first. *This music is THAT good, That I had to make a comment about it. :P*
thats because it was meant to play when you found the borealis as well. and sadly, hl3 was confirmed.....dead.....by the story writer himself in a blog post he title 'epistle 3'
This hits me in the feels only because i want half life 3 soo bad and i know it may never happen and if it does come out it wont be for another few years
I think i know why it won't be released anytime soon is because peoples expectations are so high now that i don't think any Half Life 3 game could ever live up to them
I remember a couple of years ago, a news broadcasting show in my country was giving a report on orphans and this music was playing in the background. When I noticed it I went "Wait... What the fuck!? This is from that videogame!"
I felt that this song that i reminded in the zombie apocalypse where zombies appear in the rivers and climb to reach the bridge when humans are running

It has been removed from the Steam version. From what I can remember it played on the tram ride at the very beginning. Why did they remove it? I have no idea because this fit way better than what we have now.

Such a badass theme. Fits the idea of a facility that went to hell so well.

The facility that went to hell is in another game.

Probably thinking "If i let hell come to earth, I'll be the one to send it back"
Imagine 7 hours war and all people who die there. Half-Life have some creepy stuff.
Freeman has no emotion and with the evil
Freeman is god if he want he will kill the bastard combines . Gordon is a hero of black mesa
Before anyone comments: “but its not gordons fault” well your right, it isnt his fault however he FEELS like IT IS HIS fault

+ShootFirstAskLater55 nope not the only one
+ShootFirstAskLater55 yes it sounds so sad
+ShootFirstAskLater55 Someday the Freeman will return.... He will return to save gaming and us 1st generation gamers. You will see..... :/
+ShootFirstAskLater55 It makes me think of all the people who lost their lives in Black Mesa, the HECU, Scientists, security,
Whenever I listen to this, I get the feeling that Gordon Freeman is having something akin to a vietnam flashback (Black Mesa flashback?).

Is it just me or is this perfect background music?
