The thing for me that does actually make sense to me with Vegeta in this though is that not only does he have more respect for Saiyans than any other race, but Broly is a legend that he had heard about growing up. If anyone could terrify that man this was the guy.
I didn't mind the second movie. I feel like the reason broly just said kakarot in the second movie is because after his near death experience, he got severe brain damage and wanted to get rid of anything that reminded him of kakarot. Also the gohan and broly fight was epic. Bio broly was made mostly because they needed to make more movies and the creator was running out of ideas.
Vegeta got so scared because he knew the real legend of the super saiyan. The last time a legendary one appeared, he destroyed their previous planet and not even all saiyan together against him could do jackshit. He autodestroyed and almost wiped down all the saiyan race in the process.

Funny thing is, dragon ball super broly is still stronger than dragon ball super goku. They needed super saiyan blue GOGETA for that bitch and even then they only beat him because cheelai made a wish on the dragon balls for everything to go back to normal.
