Plane Ride with a Service Dog | Access Issues and 3hr Delay

- DISCLAIMER: I'm not going to be addressing the issue with the rental car company in the comments any longer. You were not there. You did not hear our conversations when we first got the car, where they told us the hair would not be an issue, nor our conversation with them when we dropped it off. All you hear is us talking about it, because that's all I filmed. IF we had the means to clean up ourselves out of courtesy we would have, but we didn't, and we can't go back in time to November and change it. The amount of hair was hardly concerning to begin with, and not worth a near $300 charge. You don't have to agree, but what's done is done.
Any more comments regarding this matter will be deleted.
onto our regular description :)
Join us for a looong day thing to get back home to Cali from our Disney World trip! This is old footage from back in November 2020, but is uploading late due to laptop issues. This was a very rough day, starting off with problems while dropping off our rental car, and accessibility issues with our plane. Then we end up being delayed and de-planed! Join us for this wild ride

Ridley is a multipurpose service dog in training. She is task trained to mitigate my psychiatric and physical disabilities. She is granted public access rights to enter non-pet friendly places via The Americans With Disabilities Act and California Disabled Persons Act. Bringing non-service dogs into non pet friendly establishments is illegal. Faking a service dog is a federal crime, and a misdemeanor in many states punishable by $1k+ in fines and jail time. Please do your research before bringing your dog into public to find out if they are pet friendly. Target. Walmart, Disneyland, and any theme park or store/establishment that sells food is NOT pet friendly.
So a couple things on the airline side. I used to work Delta mainly, but I worked united for a few years. We always moved service dog teams to bulkhead if available. That was a standard company wide at both. But next time you fly and they give you any crap at all, ask for a CRO or disability specialist. They can make the calls and override management if needed. They have the last say at the situation. But that gate agent is totally wrong. When you fly, the ADA covers somewhat, but the ACAA can be even more restricted. The CRO is a disability specialist in these. And DOT is very on it with any and all complaints. Way more so than the DOJ even. I was a manager and lead CRO at Delta at the end of my career here locally when COVID hit. So I delt with DOT and our disability department.
I travel with a seat protector just to avoid conflict with car rental companies! Their employees have never been accommodating to me so I just take an extra step to make travel easier for myself.
or a sheet from home packs lighter. I found apohstry fabric from a thrift store to travel with. awesome
I fly with my service dog at least a dozen times a year. He wears a ShedDefender and it’s amazing Also, he’s a Bernese mountain dog so he’s VERY large. Due to his size, we always request a window bulkhead seat and every airline always accommodates our request. If a bulkhead isn’t available we are given a row to ourselves. That being said, we are often given an entire row in bulkhead or upgraded to business. Even though he is quite large, he has a great tuck and we only need one seat. We missed our boarding call once and had to sit in economy and we had passengers on each side of us. It was crowded but my fellow passengers were great. Thankfully it was a very short flight. I always try to keep our flights under 3 hours. We generally take multiple flights to reach overseas destinations. The airlines and crew are VERY APPRECIATIVE that my SD wears a ShedDefender & always compliment me for being considerate. It’s my disability but also my responsibility to be a great SD handler
When you are upgraded, do you know if it's due to a plane having empty seats or not being full? Or do you pay for the extra space?
Thanks sharing. I'm looking to get a service dog. I am disabled Vet. Love the tip about the shed defender. That or I'll keep a large beach towel or something on me for my doggy to sit/lay on.
@@loryndabenson2118 are you still looking? check out steadfast service dogs :)
It was a pleasure meeting you on Monday at Downtown Disney!
it was so cool meeting you too!
Loved your video. As a veteran preparing for my service dog, the problems you faced and questions you knew to ask were so valuable to me. Just wanted you to know your videos are greatly appreciated. 🤗❤️
showing issues like these is super helpful for future handlers! my service dog prospect is a leonberger so i have a feeling im going to be running into a few issues, and knowing in detail how they could go is very helpful.
@softly bloos my SD is a Bernese mountain dog and he wears a ShedDefender. I travel with 2 extras Also, request bulkhead window when you book your flight thru special assistance. More than likely you’ll get the entire row OR there will be an empty seat beside you. United is my favorite airline to fly with him but we’ve flown with 6 different airlines in total. He’s flown dozens of times. Try to keep flights under 3 hours so your larger SD doesn’t have to be scrunched up. It’s better to fly a couple hours and rest a few before getting on next flight IMO. We are expats
Seeing this makes me feel so much better about my service dog when traveling airlines. Making the corrections that you make with her makes me feel so much better bc the misconception about service dogs not making mistakes. My dog will be having his 2nd plane ride this thanksgiving :)
I'm so sorry people are giving you troubles about the dog hair, I have a wooly gsd sdit that sheds all the time so I understand the issue of hair 😊 ignore the haters they just want to have something to complain about, your dog is lovely!🖤
lol it's not hating or looking for something to complain about, it is an opinion. if you can't handle opinions, maybe social media is a bad idea?
@@dolledupyoongi maybe people should make sure their opinion is actual Ada law before talking 😂😂 sorry but a opinion, and saying something is the law is different when it's not.
@@HanikamuBee i personally never said anything was the ADA law when it isn't? i'm curious where that came from in case i missed something
@@dolledupyoongi just because You would do something doesn't mean everyone else would be. She said she did warn them ahead of time on their service dogs and they said it was fine. Just because a company has a issue with dog hair doesn't mean they can charge you 300$. That's like a hotel charging you for dog hair even though they are Suppose to clean the room anyways
@@HanikamuBee yes, i have addressed this, and i said that i would be considerate and responsible (not required) to do something if the dogs honestly left that much hair for it to be a problem. i also said that $300 was way too much for any attempt at a cleaning fee. i had also used the hotel example when i discussed it with a few people
Hi. I have a question. When the plane is on take off and flying how did she react for the first time. It’s something I’ve always wondered since the change in elevation is hard to simulate for training to be prepared for it.
I have flown with my SD 4 times. They generally dont have big reactions if they are well trained. I give my SD ice for takeoff and landing to help pop her ears. Others use chews or other things to help. Bella my SD just lifts her head, looks around and goes back to sleep.

@@laurendoerr I'm flying with my service dog for the first time I'm kinda worried
@@amberveselovec6714 If you want to talk about it with me feel free to message me here or on instagram @laurenbellachloe
Mine has flown dozens of times, he loves takeoffs and normally looks out the window unless it’s the 3rd flight and then he’ lays down and sleeps. We fly ALOT and always have seat assignment when we book. We always board first too. Bulkhead window is what we get or an entire row. Flown with many different airlines from US based to Mexico based. I try to book on specific airframes
I always buy bulkhead since the courtesy of being moved there isn't guaranteed. Plus, there may be many people who need to fly in them, as well for their own issues. I prefer to pay for the seat that I want from the beginning since it makes it easier.
I also travel with a "shed defender" on my dog to help with the fur since he is a GSD mix.
As Boyfriend with a Girlfriend with her own service dog I completely agree with you. Not everything is guaranteed when flying with a service animal and depending on the size of the animal.
yeah
Do you recommend the shed defender for golden retriever too? Any advice would be great for first time service dog teams to travel.
@@nicoledelieto1735 Absolutely. And they have a program that you can contact them for one for a service dog for cheap. You contact them telling them that you are interested in their service dog discount, and they request a picture of the dog.
YEsss!!! You finally posted again :D
so happy to be back and start bringing you guy content again!! i have a ton of footage ready to be edited and uploaded!
May I ask which rental car company you used? I’m going to be traveling in a few weeks with my service dog and I’m hoping to avoid this exact issue.
Why in the world do gate agents make up such ridiculous things ? “ no dogs in the bulkhead” … give me a break lady . 🙄 Once something like that is said then I would’ve been done with her. So glad you got the rental car ordeal delt with . We do try to build in 30 minutes to our schedule to vacuum but sometimes it is impossible and we just have to lent roll and 🤞 😊
This helps me know mostly what to expect with flying I'm autistic and have a service dog and she would be definitely flying with me since iv never flown commercial flights before and have anxiety attacks when out of my comfort zone she redirects me so I dont freak out.
hey! i know im kinda late im just binging all ur vids right now and i started wondering why you both are using a prong? as they both dont pull and urs listens when u tell her to slow down i was just wondering!
fair question! so prongs are used for many things, not just pulling. it’s a form of communication and/or correction. at this time ridley was very young and needed a lot more guidance than she does now, but prongs are helpful at any age and we still use it at times. this was also her first time at an airport, so there was a lot to experience for her and mistakes will be more common. i’m very light on her corrections as that’s what works for her, and nowadays a verbal correction usually does the trick. if not, the prong is there as a back up, including for safety. dogs are always learning, and any dog of any age can make mistakes. a gentle reminder and we’re right back on track :)
I will be flying with my dog soon for the first time in August. Any tips or advice ? Any extra documents I should bring ? Thank you.
sounds like the gate attendant was under informed. Not misinformed or uninformed, but definitely under informed. I was so glad to hear her acknowledge they were service animals.
SO glad you got a refund.
“You know better?” I can’t believe she said that to you. I’d of lit 🔥 them up
Watching videos that gives the handler issues makes me not 100% sure I want to follow through with getting a service dog, but I also want to be able to live semi normally again.
Maybe an emotional support animal is a better option for you but i guess it depends on your disability and needs.
are there any ear protection for dogs so they are not overwhelmed by the sound of the plane? specially during takeoff and landing. I am taking my 1.5 YO on a plane on his first flight and I am not sure how he will react to the sound if he gets scared, this is too unpredictable to train in advance for.
there is ear protection for dogs! MuttMuffs is one common one i know of. otherwise i have heard of people using cotton (i think?) or a combination of that with muttmuffs but haven’t tried that myself. muttmuffs definitely take a while for the dog to get used to but they’ve worked for me so far! i haven’t ever used them for a plane ride because Ridley has never shown any signs of discomfort with the noise, but they’ve been great at concerts.
It'd be nice if all the seats were big enough for dogs and humans. Even if the human doesn't have a pet, they'd be less likely to have leg or blood circulation issues.
how’s you train him to tuck in a ball like that under the seat?
Hi! Love your video. Do you give your SD any anxiety medication beforehand? It’ll be our first time flying with ours and we are a bit nervous.
Nit a service dog owner, but I've heard people give them chews to help pop their ears and give them treats to help them feel more comfortable.
My dog didn't need anything for anxiety. The most important thing is that your dog with your dog is strong enough that the dog looks to you to know that everything is okay.
He also doesn't chew on anything since he never does that when working. His choice. Even when I've given him the option.
Could you link where you got the black leash That has a traffic handle at the front
She's so precious!! 💕
3:32 I quote this scene from Holes all the time and no one ever gets what I’m referencing hahaha. This cracked me up to hear someone else say it too 😂 it’s so, like, almost melodic the way the scene goes it gets stuck in my head haha.
How do you handle their learning the elevator.? My stomach drops when I get in one and my SDIT will willingly enter, but as soon as it moves, she drops to her belly.
(Sorry for not responding earlier I just saw your comment) I personally don’t have a service dog but what I’d suggest (from what I’ve seen) Is putting your dog in a “down stay” and giving treats the whole way up/down that way it’s a positive experience for the dog. Maybe do it a couple times so your dog gets used to it. Hope this helped :)

what collar are you using?
hi! not sure what you mean, are you asking the name of the brand? she’s wearing two types of collars so I’m not sure what you’re asking
What airline is this?
Has any of your service dogs barfed while in a plane? I wanna go someplace some day with my SD and im worried about that LOL
Does your dog have any type of ID or certificate? Just wondering if it’s necessary.
Real service dogs don’t have IDs of certificates it is illegal to ask for one their are so many fake ones on scam websites and other medical equipment doesn’t have anything like that which is why real service dogs don’t have them hope that helps 😊
wait u bought a byb mal for sd work!??
she’s a rescue gsd mix. no mal in her.
Why is the dogs tail red?
Some people dye their dog’s fur with dog safe dye. It’s cute. It prevents people from stealing them because you can easily identify them

So much energy spent advocating for needed accommodations that were promised in advance and /or legally required. So much unnecessary hassle and stress. Do you have to show any documentation for your dogs? What if someone else on the plane is allergic to dogs /asthmatic?

Did you say you put the dogs in the trunk?
our rental car had a hatchback trunk, which is where they were while we drove. i have clips of this in some of my other videos when we’re on the way to the parks. it was a large car and they had plenty of space
Hello! I need to travel with my Beagle. I need to get a Service Dog certificate. How did you travel with your dog in cabin?Thank you
what you are doing is trying to fake a service dog. service dogs are medical equipment highly trained for years for people with disabilities like myself. faking a service dog is a federal crime punishable by jail time and heavy fines, and you dog can even be taken away. exploiting a system in place for disabled people is not the way to go just so your pet can travel with you. some airlines allow pets to travel in cabin in carriers. you can look into that. otherwise they can travel in cargo which is perfectly safe and usually the less stressful option so long as your dog is well crate/carrier trained.
One reason I got a standard poodle
Society acts holier-than-thou against non-human animals at times 🙁😾
too funny more worried about getting doggie Emails than going potty
dodgy not doggie
please post more!
Its my understanding the airlines dont have to guarantee special seating or an extra seat. The dog is supposed to fit in front of you, even for a service dog. The new law clarified this even more.
the new law was not in effect at the time of this flight. and to put a size restriction on service dogs is blatant discrimination. many of us NEED large breed dogs for mobility task work. my dog is barely 60lbs and she is TINY compared to every other service dog we meet up with, and the smallest SD i will ever have. did you see how little space she had? and that’s WITH the extra seat. i’m 5”10. there is no physical way i could have sat with her in front of me on that plane. if airlines are gonna demand they stay at our feet, they need to make more room.
@@theservicehyena3088 yeah I am 5”7 and I have not been on a plane yet with my service dog but I am for sure going to see if I can get the bulkhead, and if I can’t, see if I can when I get to the airport, my service dog is around 40 pounds and pretty small but I still want to be able to have that room. And with the whole size limit, why would they even do that? Like you said some people need larger dogs for mobility or other tasks
@@rachd4786 you'd be surprised. My niece has a king German shepherd. He weighs about 85 pounds. Dee Jay has epilepsy and nerve damage caused by a neck injury she got during a seizure. Her dog Albus helps her to keep her balance when her nerves are trying to say they're going on vacation (her words). The last time she flew was a couple of weeks ago. The airline tried to tell her that her dog was too big and she'd have to put Albus in the luggage area in a pet crate. That alone is against ADA laws. She even told them that. The assholes that said that to her tried to tell her it was legal. Her husband is a lawyer that deals with ADA laws. He told them exactly what the law states in regards to where SD's can go on an airplane. To say they looked a bit befuddled is an understatement. But they wouldn't budge on the whole size issue so they ended up switching from United to Southwest where Albus was treated much better.
@@mcrchickenluvr was he referring to the ADA or ACAA when citing the law, because the ADA does not apply to flying.
@@theservicehyena3088 My German Shepherd 92 lbs fits under any sit. We trained him for a while so he would be used to it. I guess it's also the level of training on commits to it's dog

I can kind of see how the car service rental place would want to charge you for cleaning up after a mess left in the car evsn if it is dog hair. I mean regardless if it's a disability or not if you make a mess anywhere you're usually responsible to cleaning up after yourselfs. I mean people make a fiss if you dont clean up after your dog if it went to the bathroom. If you rent a tuxedo and it gets messy, I'm sure the tux place would want to charge you for either replacing the garment or paying for cleaning services.
typically yes, however this is something they legally cannot charge for. had we spilled soda or something absolutely they could, or had the dogs damaged the vehicle, but dog hair they can’t.
@@theservicehyena3088 They probably have something in the long font size 1 agreement you signed relating to how they release the car to you clean and it needing to be returned the same way or they would deduct it from a security deposit. I'm surprised your friend got the full security deposit back so fast later in the video. That's like tv time fast. It never happens that quick in real life lol. They probably have some small vacuum they keep just for the dog hair and crumbs. It does seem a little strange that they would want you to pay for that.
@@knightrcer the car was the same as we got it, just with some hair. since our dogs are medical equipment we have rights in place for things like this. i don’t film the entire time, so while it seems fast (and don’t get me wrong it was resolved in a fairly quick amount of time) the clips are cut together.
@@theservicehyena3088 Is there anything anywhere that says that because the dogs are medical equipment that car rental places shouldn't charge you guys for cleaning services for their cars? I can understand that they should allow you to rent the cars without them saying we don't allow you guys to have a dog in them because they might chew up the upholstery, have bathroom accidents but I can't see them stipulating dog hair. But I can see the vehicle rental place put that in their contracts in the world's tiniest print.
@@knightrcer obviously there is, why would i make that up? it’s directly in the ADA that we cannot be charged additional cleaning fees due to the dogs. damage is another thing. they can’t put it in their contract that they can charge for that bc it would be a violation of federal law.
How can you pay 25000 dollars?? I mean.. I neef a service dog because of my bad disabilities.. I live in Europe.. We have laws there too and service dogs are allowed but its not so good as the ADA is..but i know service dog handlers and i know that you can train your SD yourself.. If you have a good and not so expensive trainer then you can train a service dog too... ♥️♥️
In the trunk f the car? That’s torture
That’s were we stored the dogs that sounded so creepy
When one is using ANY sort of public transportation with their service dog ,and really anywhere where other people are in an enclosed environment, it is just good manners to have your dog wear an allergy vest /shed defender, and keep your dog off the seats meant for people. In my experience, many people with service dogs rarely think of the people around them who ALSO may have a disability, i.e. may be extremely allergic to dog hair/saliva to the point of anaphlaxis. My own dog was a GSD, lightweight doggy PJ's and keeping her on the floor served her and the public well.
they were never on seats meant for people, and it’s in the ADA that that’s not allowed. the vast majority of service dog owners do not use shed defenders, nor is it practical for everyone. i’m fully aware of other peoples need and allergies and always offer to move further away if need be. flights will make accommodations and move those with allergies if they ask. however i and my dog don’t exist to cater to others, and if no one says anything to me how am i supposed to know they have an issue? that’s on them to speak up about it, and in the instance they do we find what works for us both.
@@theservicehyena3088 I wasn't referencing you specifically on seat use, but there are also a fair number of people with service dogs who ignore ADA guidelines too. I agree with you that people with serious dog allergies should notify airline staff when booking a flight. However, while I also agree that shed/allergy shirts aren't practical for *everyone* with a service dog, they are a relatively minor inconvenience for most service dogs/owners who will visit an enclosed public area, be it a restaurant, airport waiting area, Dr. Office, bus, etc.
Legally, they shouldn't give you a hard time about dogs shedding in cars. It is illegal because you cannot just leave the dog because it is a service dog. That's really unacceptable.
me and my service dg went travieling and i got harrasd for having one and peoplo were saying hi disabled little shit to me all the time and to my dog they would not respect that he is working and could save my life and if you going oh hi puppy he will get ditcarted and could miss a sigh of a faint
Wait I was totally with you up until they offered the exit row. Wouldnt that be better because theres way more room for you and the dogs? Im so confused. Also that lady is insane, they are service animals and animals should be allowed on planes even if they arent. What on earth is wrong with her.
we are disabled and legally they will not place elderly, disabled ppl, or children in exit rows as they have to be able to assist ppl off of the plane in an emergency
A prong collar on a well behaved service dog. I don't understand this. Also the wide neck band and purple tail? Please reevaluate your accessories for your SD. Asking your dog to share abnormally small areas with unnecessary restrictive gear is not comfortable for the dog.
at the time of this video my dog is less than two years old. shes a puppy. she’s well behaved BECAUSE of proper use of the prong collar. just because you don’t see it used does not mean it isn’t. the yellow collar is only on because the gear she was wearing did not have anything on it saying do not pet, the collar did. in the video her tail is pink, and not sure why it matters since it’s pet safe dye and in no way bothers her.
the gear was not restrictive, the fact she slept the entire time should’ve been plenty evidence that she was comfortable. this video is also years old by now
So y'all knew your dogs were shedding and don't think to bring a lint roller 😑 damn. Glad someone with pet hair allergies didn't need it next
hey! so no, sorry, we only brought essentials and didn’t think to buy them when we went to the store. when we got the car, we prepared them that there may be hair. when we dropped the car off, we did it again. the next person having allergies is besides the point, bc the car is supposed to be thoroughly cleaned between every rental anyways, esp bc of covid.
we were literally a group of disable young adults traveling across the country, planning an entire theme park trip, most of us for the first time without family, on our own. so no, a lint roller wasn’t exactly at the top of our minds
Just to add on, the ADA also specifically states that neither allergies nor fear of dogs or any other personal reason is a valid excuse to discriminate against and withhold proper accommodations against those with service dogs, and it is the company’s duty to provide safe accommodations for both parties. If that means actually cleaning a car, which is the bare minimum for car rental services, then oh no! Guess that car’s going to be clean.
So even if someone DID have allergies and was using the car immediately after, it is the company that needs to provide that accommodation to both parties without extra cost for medical reasons.
Even if someone with allergies rented it next, it's the car rentals JOB to clean the vehicle before the next person, even more so with covid. So it would be on the car rental agency for not cleaning it, if dander or fur was left over.
They don’t care about other people needs . They’re entitled
Camera pointed at the floor, or your feet, constantly. Can't understand much of anything being said, and it isn't just the mask. Difficult to watch and see or learn anything.
well i film to watch it back and see how my dog is acting so… what i’m doing is my priority, not filming. i’m not looking at my camera when i film, im busy worrying about what’s around me. you can put on subtitles, or you don’t have to watch if you don’t like it 🤷🏻♀️
8:41 "they're service animals" "I know that but" gonna stop her right there. That is one of the most incorrect and condescending statements to say when you are so completely wrong. I understand that ADA doesn't apply on planes, but the Air carrier access Act does and it very very clearly states what the rules are for service animals. Yall mentioned you called ahead and that suggests you as handlers did everything correctly and were following the rules. (BTW they CAN now require you to harness your dog and have it on leash in the airport, even if your disability would normally prevent that, and on the plane which is asinine so if you faint. bring the long leash or have a signed form printed out with your agreement in writing if your disability requires off leash tasking. or better yet.... go by Grey hound or limo.... it'll still be cheaper and nicer than having to deal with air ports if your traveling in the states. Try ferries or charter a boat if you're traveling internationally.... These airlines are just becoming an even bigger problem than they have been and it's only getting worse now that even the passengers are becoming more and more volatile. I honestly dont feel safe flying any more and it has nothing to do with gravity and every thing to do with other passengers and flight crews. I've been hearing a lot of recent disturbing stories about how people with disabilities are being harmed, neglected, abandoned and stranded or worse by air lines or becoming victims of other passengers. It is asinine. They keep saying TSA is for our protection and yet these same airlines allow all of this while ticket prices get more and more expensive every year. I used to think flying was faster and easier than ground or water travel... but now I know differently.
Hello
If you knew the dogs would leave hair in the car, why not do something about it instead of automatically pulling the "the ADA says we don't have to pay for something we did" card? Put a blanket or towels down, or, better yet, clean up the mess you left behind. The people who work at the dealership now have to spend their time cleaning the car because you couldn't be responsible.
I am moving on to my second service dog and not once have I ever felt entitled enough to have someone clean a mess my dog made, whether it be hair or something else. I know the ADA has your back, but why go all "it's illegal to charge us" when you knew 100% that the dogs would leave hair? That is irresponsible and a lame excuse. Being disabled does not put you above anyone else, especially when people already do so much to accommodate disabilities.
hi, our dogs are both shedding breeds. we do our best to keep them well groomed to leave behind minimal hair. we did not have blankets or towels. we also did not have lint rollers. they already have to clean the car, and should be deep cleaning right now because of the pandemic. they cannot charge extra for some dog hair. the fact you think this was any form of entitlement or use using any kind of “card” is just sad. “automatically”? you didn’t even hear the first ten minutes of our conversation because i simply wasn’t recording yet. we literally made them aware of the dogs and that they’d leave behind hair WHEN WE GOT THE CAR and they said it was fine. the dogs were in it only for short drives back and forth. if we had the time or supplies to clean it we would have our of courtesy, which i even mentioned in the video, but we had neither of those things.
Having a service dog that sheds a lot it can be difficult keeping hair off of things even with regular grooming (brushed every single day bathed every 2 or so weeks). I put down a sheet for my dog in the car when we go places but she still gets some hair everywhere even if it’s less than it normally would be. It’s difficult to control something like that even with regular grooming and proper “protection” for the vehicle. people don’t even think about shedding as a factor for this sort of thing because the cars should be deep cleaned all the time not just in a pandemic 😷 I guarantee if my service dog had been in the vehicle hair would be everywhere even with towels or a blanket or something. It’s a nice thought to bring a lint roller but most people don’t consider that 🤷🏼♀️
@@meganphillips7966 we didn’t have extra blankets or lint rollers with us as we flew and simply didn’t have the space to bring any. if we did have any we absolutely would have. i even mentioned in the video i would’ve loved to have helped clean a bit, we just simply didn’t have the time. we would get up at disneyland’s opening every day (which is very difficult for me as i’d usually be running on very little sleep), and by the time we’d leave the parks we would be exhausted and go straight to the room to rest. not enough spoons or time for the hair unfortunately
@@theservicehyena3088 Unfortunately it is using a card. If you leave a mess, you are still responsible for it. They can't ask much of you for that, but I still see it as overusing the cover of the ADA. Wheelchairs and oxygen tanks don't leave anything that needs cleaned, so in this case, yes service dogs are different. Doing something to take care of it isn't courtesy, it is responsibility for your actions.
Instead of "they literally can't make us pay a cleaning fee," why not "the ADA states that we legally do not have to cover a separate cleaning fee, but if there is enough hair to be absolutely necessary, I would be happy to work something out." Most of the time, people change their minds and decide no, it really isn't a big deal, but it is so much easier to fight back against someone who is trying to get out of it. Then you are just standing up for your business.
As someone who has had a working dog and will be getting another, I know the struggles and discrimination that comes with them, but please try to give a better impression of the community. So many handlers paint the entire community as entitled brats and people come to expect that from us. It is sad that so much can be done to avoid this, yet people pull up the ADA for everything that slightly inconveniences them. Towards the end of the video when you had another problem, you handled that nicely, so what was that about?
Whether or not I saw the beginning of the conversation, it looks like the beginning of drama and a video titled "THEY TRIED TO MAKE ME PAY FOR MY SERVICE DOG??"
@@dolledupyoongi so you vacuum the car everytime you rent a car? What if a human sheds in the car do they have to pay extra fee? Also all cars have to be cleaned before another person can rent it
Also don't service dogd lay on the floor of the car... where shoes carrying dirt and stuff go anyways
** tells the people at the counter the third girl "can't hear" but then proceeds to talk to her. ***????wtf?***
our friend is deaf. she has a cochlear implant and hearing aids that allow her to hear, but she cannot wear them on the flight due to interference.
Again, your comment is not necessary. Thanks for making judgments about others that you don’t know. I hope in the future you don’t question others disabilities without being fully informed of the wide variety of ways conditions can present themselves. The workers were informed to spare embarrassment, yet you just brought it upon me. Thanks a lot. In the future please be more informed and if you’re not please keep your comments to yourself.
Ummm ur dog/s hair YOUUUU CLEAN IT Bottom line. What's so hard bout that... Does that make u special cuz u have a service dog/s... Nooooo it DOESN'T
read the description.
As a service dog handler I’m going to respond to this because it’s IGNORANT. Obviously you don’t know much about the ADA rules stating that dog hair in hotels/rentals are is not required to be charged as an extra cleanup fee for handlers of SERVICE ANIMALS!! Only damage. :) thank you and goodbye.
thats actually ADA law they dont have to do anything unless there is damage to the car. also they are SDs so they are trained to not destroy
that collar is too tight :(
i’m not sure which collar you’re referring to, but none of her collars are too tight. they are all properly fit and two fingers fit under them no problem. her prong is snug like it’s supposed to be, and the 2in collar helps keep it nice and high. in fact the reason we even use it is bc at this time her prong was between link sizes and actually too big and would slip down. the 2” collar prevented it from slipping down.
I would not want to be on a plane with three dogs that is for sure! Putting dogs in over head no way! One animal died because of that! The airline was wrong for suggesting that!
good thing it’s not up to you lol. service dogs are medical equipment. they travel with us no different than an oxygen tank or wheelchair would. don’t know wtf you’re talking about with dogs in overhead, that was never once mentioned in this video.
@@theservicehyena3088 Sorry I apologize I thought the wanted to. But, they are crazy the forced an animal once, and it died. Now airlines are being sued for it. I have a therapy dog, but I would pay 100 to have it beside me. No way they would force me to put it in the over head!
@@ericaaubie860 bulkhead and overhead are different 😂 overhead is the bags above your seat, bulkhead is the extra foot space at the front of the plane!
Oof so yeah you should be responsible for the dog hair in the car, you know your dog is shedding and you can either clean it yourself or pay to have it cleaned. No excuses there, buddy. And with how many times that dog broke a heel is literally embarrassing, stop letting it wander, correct it. Be responsible for your actions, and be an adult.
yeah they can charge for extra hair or if it would cause extra cleaning. You are still responsible to clean after your service dog. I bring a lint roller with me when I take an uber or taxi with my service dog.
hate to break it to you, buddy, but i have her heal farther forward than a typical heel because that’s what works for my disability. i also told her to go forward multiple times when i needed her to. you also forget, she is IN TRAINING, and in a very new environment. she never wandered my friend. this is also OLD video footage, from last year. in regards to the hair, i’ve addressed it enough times by now i’m not going to do it again. we told them ahead of time there would be hair and they said it was fine. they have to clean the car anyways, and you didn’t even see how much hair there was. they wanted to charge us nearly $300 for dog hair. sorry, but no. no damages were done, no extra fees. that’s how it works.
@@MommyCassReborns i’m tired of addressing this shit 🙄
heeling is not a requirement under any laws, so long as they are under control. which she is. if i want her in a heel, i ask for it. if she’s not in a heel, i didn’t ask for it. she’s not pulling. walking ahead of me is necessary in some scenarios. i know what i need, you don’t. pretty simple bud
@@theservicehyena3088 Way to be rude, bro, this is why I hate the SD community. You people act like children. Like yes, we're all disabled here, move along. You're not special. Your dog is kinda doody, hon. You just look like one of those assholes who has a little bit of anxiety and wants to take their dog everywhere with them.
The Service Hyena can you please don mine you make a TH-cam video about your dog wearing ruffwear socks Liners with ruffwear shoes like can you please don mine if you make a TH-cam video about that like it is for my birthday party can you please don mine making that video and your service dog looks cute wearing ruffwear socks Liners with ruffwear shoes like can you please don mine that this week The Service Hyena please
Why would you put dogs in the trunk of a rental car, and leave hair everywhere! Do that in your car if you want, but not a rental car! Rental cars are for passengers not dogs!
they’re SERVICE DOGS. we need them with us. they’re medical equipment. read my description. your comment is being deleted.
This makes me dislike service dogs and their handlers even more
ok lol
“watching disabled people go along with their daily lives makes me hate them more” yall ableists are so unoriginal sometimes
Me too
Three service dogs on a plane really???? This service dog thing is getting a bit much! It is only suppose to be for the blind! Seems like they just wanted to bring their dogs!!
service dogs are not only for the blind you donut. besides, those are guide dogs. service dogs are for a wide range of disabilities including but not limited to epilepsy, ptsd, diabetes, and more. you are right that a lot of people fake their dogs as SDs just to bring them along. but that is not true at all for our dogs.
@@theservicehyena3088 Yes yes I see in stores in carriages ect in the buggies. Yes I see a lot of fake service dogs!! That is true! Anyway, ok Iam sorry!

I'm not sure I agree with bringing in such a young dog to public would be the right choice, especially using a prong collar and at a theme park. Now if she's older than two, I think this is totally fine. I'm not fond of bringing dogs to such strange places like theme parks simply because in training there's no way to get a dog acclimated to those kinds of sounds and elements. The ideology of "because you can doesn't mean you should". In your description, you had said SDiT which means you don't have a service dog and she's still training. There's evidence of stress and not coping well. But of course, do what you need to. It's not like any of us really know what going on but my experience tells me certain things I've come to know. I hope both of you are doing well.
umm service dogs NEED to start training at a young age. program dogs literally start training as soon as they’re able to walk. service dogs typically aren’t even fully trained until they’re at least two years old. you clearly don’t know how the critical period of desensitization and socialization works. if we all waited to train service dogs until they were 2yo the vast majority would wash out because they weren’t started young, and they wouldn’t be fully trained until 4yo. which is already half of some dogs lifespan. it’s already a known fact that older dogs are less likely to succeed as a service dog than those started young. not impossible, but far less likely. prongs are fantastic training tools, and she’s literally been training at theme parks since she was 6mo. there are plenty of ways to acclimate a dog to a theme park, which we did since she came home to me. the biggest way being eventually oh i don’t know, going to said theme park?? if in your mind a dog can’t go to a theme park until they’ve been fully acclimated to it, then no dog can ever go to a theme park. the training you can’t do elsewhere happens AT the theme park. i’m not “bringing my dog to a theme park”. i’m DISABLED and I AM going to the theme park, because that what’s i wish to do. my necessary medical response service dog comes with me. in both my state and in florida, service dogs in training have full public access rights. once she had public access and task training and was a service dog in training, we began non-pet friendly public access just like every other team. pls explain to me your “evidence” of stress in my video. considering this is a video of literally her first time ever in that specific park and her second time on a plane, i’d really like to see a single dog not show a single sign of discomfort doing this exact same thing.
@@theservicehyena3088lol look you don't have to explain yourself via novel. Believe it or not training service animals differs from person to person so we don't all have to agree. Of course starting from day one is crucial. I'm also disabled but many many other people are. There's nothing intrinsic about it and I don't find the need to feel special about it for sure. Regardless, you're gonna do you, its not like a random strangers comment is gonna change anything.
@@ScaddleCoffee they have to start training at a young age though bc at one point if u train them too old they wont work for long or they'll wash out
It’s not rude to stare
you’re kidding, right? yes, it is very rude to stare. that’s very common knowledge your parents should’ve taught you as a child.
YES IT IS. Its very distracting to the handler and the dog that is working. its better to just act like the dog isnt there
