Love the Video Steve. I was fortunate enough to pick up a 2002 24v dually 4x4 with a 6 speed trans last year out a tow yard in Vegas. Owner said it was a parts truck, bad computer and harness and been sitting for years. Paid 2,500.00 put new batteries and bled the air in the fuel line and it started! The kicker is it's only got 80k miles. Verified by carfax. I've already been offered 14k. Love it!
Mines a 2002 6 speed manual. Only 90,000 miles! I agree with everything you mentioned. I love my 2nd gen, you couldn’t give me a brand new truck and I could never justify spending $75,000 on a brand new truck. My 2002 is basically a brand new truck! Last summer someone offered me $40,000 cash and I told him no it’s not forsale.
$100k truck should come with 3 axles, 10-18 speeds and able to pull 80K lbs. I’m old school too, that’s why I’m going to stay with my OBS 7.3 crew cab and my 03 7.3 super cab.
We have a 99.5 3500 Laramie Sport XCab 24V 4X4 dually 6 speed. Has 140,000 miles on it, black with pearl flames, HX40 turbo, 100 horse injectors, k&n intake, edge box and custom exhaust. Just a tow pig for us but still my favorite truck we've ever owned.
I looked for the right 2nd gen Cummins for 5 years before I bought mine. One owner, 1995 Dodge 3500 Dually 4x4, extended cab, factory 5 speed, factory 4.10 gears. Had 74k miles on it when I bought it 6 years ago. Now has 99k, barely broken in!! It's stock except for straight pipe exhaust and big air filter. I love the reliability and torque when towing my car trailer. Converted rear overload to Deaver replacement pack and Bilstein 5100 shocks. Front has 3" Carli springs, Carli control arms, Carli 3rd gen track bar conversion, Bilstein 5100 shocks. Not for sale!!
I started working for Dodge back in 2000 selling them. Been doing it for 20 years now, and I gotta tell you, the Ram trucks are by far the best out there!!!
I remember doing a factor order for a guy that lives in my neighborhood, it was a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually H.O. diesel with a 6 speed manual. He's still driving it around to this day!!!
First gen for this guy but it's in a 79 gmc crew cab with full air ride in the back on 4" lift. Still building it. Love to hear your stories. Keep them coming Steve
I drive a 98 12v 5 speed quad cab 1 ton dully flat bed 4x4 leather with the rubber floor. Probably 1 of 1 custom order. Holy Grail! My youngest daughter says she gets it when i kick the bucket. Love my 2nd gens!!
Another nice vehicle. I like the way you use the word "honest" when talking about a good engine. I remember you saying it when talking about the flatbed beast of a truck you have in another video. You seem like a easy guy to sit down and have a killer conversation with about trucks or whatever.
I had a 96 also. Its was an automatic, club cab, 4wd, diesel. Built my own flatbed for it. Did some motor work on it. besides that never had a problem. Had 295,000 mile on it. My wife was taking it to work with her when a ford jump out in front of her. The old dodge ate that truck. Now i have a motor and rears to find something to put it into. My dad has a 1952 dodge b series truck thinking of putting my motor into it and building a truck.
That truck looks clean! Man I got a hell of a story on mine too. Bought it clapped out with 500k had it 7 years and put it through hell and back and she still runs like a champ. I built bumpers, plated in the rusted out rockers and fenders with 1/8”diamond plate. Plated the bed. Built a back rack. Put lots of parts in it but got it to the point everything works and it just runs drives and looks pretty damn good. It’s still an old Beater but shit I wouldn’t trade it for anything! even now that I can afford to. These old 12v’s will be what’s pulling the rest of em to the scrap yard some day.
Hey Steve. Love the 2nd Gen. Ive got a 92 first gen thats el minto grande lol no rust , dents or dings. Black on grey full load 4 unch lift on 36,s. Running the og rotary pump opened up to 1/4 turn from runaway. Built head with studs and valve spring with a mikd compound set up. Makes a respectful 430 hp witch is right a tail end of the rotary pumps ability. I will send pics. And got 16000 watt system. 4 JL w 4 12, s with 3 six mid in each door tweets on pilars 4 two way 6, s in back. All fosgate mids JL subs. 10 k to the subs 6 k to mids n tweets. 4 dry cell batts and two 250 amp alts by mechman. Live yoyr sec Gen buds. Stay gold.
2nd gen dually first trip in truck the nv4500 hung in 4th with 39ft 14k pound camper on the back truck ran over 500 miles to get us home never had a problem took off several times in 4th with a slip of the clutch. Called standard for the new nv4500 an southbend for the clutch an flywheel great choices then the vp44 went out new thoroughbred vp an airdog lift preporator. One of the best dailies I have ever owned.
I've got a 2001 4dr 4wd 2nd gen gasser and have recently bought a 12v and a 24v cummins to swap into it trying to find a 6 speed manual that doesn't break the bank also 2010 superduty front and rear axles it'll be a BEAST when I get done, love what you do been a welder/ fabricator 22yrs keep making off the wall stuff
Love the truck man! The 12 valves are a great engine. I have one in my daily driver 85 1 ton dually crew cab Chevy and couldn’t be happier with it. It’s turned up a little and just makes for a fun truck to drive. Thanks for all of the awesome videos you put up. You guys do amazing work
I don’t currently own a cummins powered dodge but it will be one of my next trucks. I currently have a 7.3 powerstroke and a 7.3 idi naturally aspirated both straight shifts and I love them both!
I'm more of a Gen1 kind of guy myself, but the benefits that were added in the second generation are undeniable. Combine the two, and you'd have one hell of a truck IMO.
I started working for Chrysler in 1994 heat treating all the shafts in the 48re. Now I'm in skilled trades as a millwright. Bought my first brand new truck in 96. A 3500 4x4,with the automatic. I put stacks and a lighted turbo wing on it back then. Still have it and will never part with it.
I'm a lot like your son. I've paid a little for quite a few and fixed em up. Drove em a while and sold them for profit. Used the profit to buy 2 beat up 12 valve trucks...flipped them both etc. I have an '05 now. Its kind of the best of both worlds. Mainly because I like the comforts a little more than I use to. But being an 05 I don't deal with dpf or def...just a few more electronics but mainly the same block...still looking for another 12 valve. Great truck
I like 2nd gen dodges. Wouldnt mind having one. I have a 96 chevy with the 350 in it and hes not wrong. Pushing 400k miles on it and still running great.
Love the look of the older Dodges like yours, especially the extended cab. It's a pity we can't find them as cheap over here in Australia as what you can in the USA.
I am trying g to build me a 12 valve cummins this year .. and I really like how you did your dully.. I think you should up grade your Trans to a 6 speed nv5600
I own 1999 5.9 24v once you have a good lift pump cool down the vp you are golden. Good set of batteries to start that beast. For sure a gauge for lift pressure and she's will love you.
Cummins is great but I like the 99-07 Super Duties best. Those were the toughest trucks ever built. I’ve got 465,000 miles on my 2007 F-350. No cab swaps, same bed, etc. Truck is as tight as it was new. Oh, and the 6.0 is still going strong.
I just love trucks lol. Currently driving a 2003 Dodge 3500 diesel stick shift. Now I was given this truck from my late uncle and it's barely hitting 190k miles. Practically brand new also the OEM clutch held up until it blew up at 180k now most OEM parts don't last that long. Currently use it for getting to work and doing some side work. The bed is never empty. Carrying my welder and a bunch of metal for my next project. So yeah great trucks id say.
I have a 2nd gen. 2002 24valve extend cab 3500 4x4! 88k on it the secret I found here in Pa. to keep a truck(after throwing away afew due to rusted out frames) is fluid film! every fall I give her a spray and no rust! The paint went to hell from the sun. Got it redone in 2013 and the roof needs to be redone again! paid for and reliable, comfortable truck! I have a slide-in bed camper I can put in in5minutes and a 20ft aluminum trailer for the toys! last truck I will ever buy!
I have a 97 dodge 5speed has over 400,000 miles on it and I drive it every day it cranks up and works every time I need it The most reliable Diesel Engine ever made
I have an old 93 ford here I'm putting a few thousand into but doing all my own work from stem to stern lol its a gasser but love those older ford's man even if some may not agree.hahahaha Fix Or Repair Daily right.
Correct me if I'm wrong but when the diesel changed in 07 from high sulfur to low sulfur diesel all that lubricity from high sulfur diesel was taken out. So pre 07 diesel trucks need the lubricant in the fuel. Like u said u just put the old oil back into it. I've seen some use 2 stroke oil too.
Had a 2001.5 HD2500 Sport 4x4 ext.cab short bed. I bought used from the guy who ordered it. When I went to the stealership to transfer the ext warranty, they ran my vin & printed out all the details on it. They all freaked when they saw he ordered with Dana 80 front & Dana 90 rear. It was a beast, basically a HD3500 single wheel. Downfall was all the problems with the 4 wheel disc brakes.
I am a Rancher in ranch country, all my buddies and neighbors drive new Fords/Dodges. I have an 86 F-350 with a 6.9 IDI diesel as my feed truck. My 357,000 mile 2002 F-350 7.3 crewcab flatbed on 35’s pulls the trailers, and my 2000 F250 7.3 6 spd. Etended cab short box is my DD.
Oh man you hit the nail on the head with your opener. I’m all for cleaner air/water whatever but our trucks aren’t the issue and Diesel is a smaller percentage compared to gas / hybrid and electrics on the road. My tuned lml runs extremely clean and only smokes a little bit when I hammer it but due to the cost on the new trucks for all the emissions shit and the hassle of all that I’ll be going old school on my next one. This truck of yours is a beauty and a great example.
I absolutely love the video of you driving it back from Montana.... shake, rattling and rolling!! Your expression and laugh was priceless! I've been in that situation more than I can tell you growing up with my dad being a mechanic. Dad even talked mom into driving a car to the shop that backfired.... she regretted wearing hot rollers in her hair that day! Lol 🤣 It's a beautiful truck and great video!!
love it i use to drive my bosses second gen it was a 99 it had the 12 valve with some head work it was fast we took the auto trans out a put in a 6 speed it pulled all of our trailers with no problem.
I prefer the Gen 3 body style of the Dodge Ram short bed Cummins. Gen 2 and Gen 3 engines are the best cause of the upgrade abilities. I prefer Gen 3 cause it's quieter, it doesn't sound like you have a rod knocking around 24/7 while you're driving around like the Gen 1s & 2s so damn noisy. I'd rather hear turbo's spooling as it whistles while you punch down on the gas pedal than hearing a damn engine knocking around noisy as hell. That's me and what's great about every one having their own likes and dislike is you don't see the same vehicles driving around. That why there are tons of makes, models, years and styles on the road. I enjoy your content keep it coming.
Looks like mine... my front number ain’t that thick though, and mine has twin 7 inch straight stacks in the bed. It’s also a little taller, and has different grill. Mines a 97 12 valve Cummins manual
The older dodge's and Fords are where it's at. I have 2 2000 Superdutys both with the 7.3 Powerstrokes, one has 448000 the other 328000, and never done any major work for repairs to the engines. Both have upgrades in the exhaust and turbo and tuning department and are super reliable making close to 500 wheel horsepower 850ish torque. Can't beat the older trucks, due proper routine maintenance and have a reliable truck for life
@@RiggyRonnie Usually yes oil cooler failure is about 200-300k, but I service the cooling system every 75k and I always use Prestone HD coolant, deionized water, and fords coolant system conditioner. So far zero rust issues in the cooling system.
Love a 12v and love the 7.3s, stock yes there gutless but I'll take their reliability any day. Nice dually you have there. On the hunt for a 12valve myself.
Hell yeah ! I’m still rolling in my grandpas first gen farm beast along side my 14 6.7 Big butt Betty fourth gen . I really dig your truck it’s a BEAST that front bumper looks like it’s a pig shredding machine . Cool Whip
Not a fan of the dodge/ram platform, but being a diesel mechanic, I love my 12v swapped 94 F350 CCLB. working on making a slammed 24V P pumped 85 F350 CCLB dually
I'm 1'000 % behind you on the new truck I've been taking a page out of my grandfather book he always made sure his wife has a newer dependable car he always had a obs so that's wht I got
I had a 93 extended cab 2wd auto. Bought it used when I was in high school. Sold in 2001 when I went to college cause I could not afford the repairs being a broke ass college student. Damn I miss that truck.
One of my favorite dodge diesels would have to be the 78-79s with the Mitsubishi tugboat motor. Not a long running model but it was one dad had and we put in a few dodge cabs he had. One of the first sticks I've driven. Dad had it in a 1ton service truck with a wood flat on it. It was geared so low you could start out in 3rd gear and about 55-60 she was wound right up!...drove the piss out of it wile doing the driving training/test. Lol great memories.
Awesome 👍🏾👍🏾 yeah old school is best , but I only got a Toyota Rav4 1996 it does for now I fixed most of it lol I got it for free off my sister I've put 1000 into it to get it running and back on the road , and will put some better wheels on it later , and do body work for a better paint job down the track, 👍🏾 that's a cool truck 👍🏾
i used to love to work on cummins engines here in the UK as where I live in Rugby Warwickshire There is a massive Cummins factory where they make all cummins engines from marine ship and boat engines big truck engines and 4 cylinder engines for small vehicles like a jeep my friend works there he's an engine builder building truck engines he loves his job he went from school and thirty years later is still working there he is one of the best engine builders there and he trains newcomers to the factory me I am a deisel mechanic started a 5 year aprentership with rugby cement they used cummins engines gardener engines and international and cat bedford dodge so we had a massive fleet they came straight from the factory with just cab and chassis nothing else so we made the pressure tank they where all 8 wheel trucks double steer and long chassis with double axles eaton diffs 2 speed david brown gearboxes a few ZF gearboxes and the cabs where fodens ERFs A B C and D series cabs and chassis I worked there for 15 years then I moved onto be a PSV mechanic and engineer for fifteen years working on busses coaches and tour busses double deckers and converting them to an open top bus so top deck had no roof made railings and wind shields out of plexy glass converted bus engines fitting cummins into British leyland busses whos engine was terrible kept throwing rods through the floor made passenger screen seeing a piston coming through the floor at the back of the bus once we fitted cummins and daf engines not one ever had a problem and on nights all the busses and coaches were parked indoors over a hundred busses and fifty coaches .we used to pick up the chassis from the ferry from France and drive the chassis no cab nothing just a seat the engines were ethier mid or rear fitted a lightboard was straped to the front and rear a piece of wood and a seat bolted on no dials no dash nothing just a stearing wheel and pedels and a gear lever we would wear a crash helmet and warm clothing and drive them 300 miles to the body factory there would be ten of us from the same deopot we were all good friends and we would convoy are way up to the factory the furthest was in Scotland was nearly 650 miles away from over were the ferry would drop off saying that we had to board the ferry as no one would drive them off LOL we had a great laugh we still keep in touch as I left to join the royal automobile club as a patrol as I was also trained in light vehicle petrol vehicles as well as deisel we did a load more in-depth training in fault finding in fuel injection and common rail dieasels which I already knew but didn't know how to fault find the electrics as big garages had there own electricians and we were not allowed to do any electrics while there was an electrician available which in my mind was a stupid idea but hay that's what the union said as we all had to join the transport and general workers union which was a waste of time in my mind, so I learned how to fault find injector faults ane ecu faults with common rail diesels we did a six month corse and then an exam an city and guilds exam which is what I took for my main mechanics courses after five years then I took the national craftsman exam which is an 8 hour practical exam on petrol and deisel vehicles with a half an hour break halfway through you were not allowed toilet breaks if you left the hall it was an instant fail it was right in mid winter there was a foot of snow on the ground I had to catch a train to London for the exam which was a 100 miles away from where I live I was 18 i caught the flue as the tube trains couldn't get to my destination as the points were freezing up I finally got to my bed and breakfast a 1am in the morning I had to wake up the people to let me in I went straight to bed they had no heating in my room and half way through the exam I got a double barrelled nose bleed the instructor said you cant carry on like that I said give some blue hand roll please so I stuffed it up both nostrils it took a half an hour to stop I was drinking my own blood as it was going down the back of my throat Yuk the instruckter just shook his head in disbelief so I carried on finally I finished the course ,luckily I got a lift to the tube station as one of the guys was going that way as I had to walk a mile and a half to the bed and breakfast in a foot of snow with just shoes on I manged to get home and spent the next week in bed with the Flue boy was I bad I can see the funny side looking back but at the time it was a nightmare anway a month later the results came through and I had passed with top marks even when I was held dead I think the instructor felt sorry for me seeing me in that state eyes streaming nose bleeding mess lol of course once you have took all those exams and your handed your aprentership deeds you think that all the exams done how wrong was I about twenty five exams later plus you realise you never stop taking them as a new system comes out so you have to be trained I enjoyed being a mechanic for 40 odd years I am retired now through an accident at work working with the RAC I was working on a broken down car on the motorway hard shoulder or freeway breakdown lane and a lorry driver fell asleep and hit my van hit the car I was working on and fliped me fifty feet into the air I landed on the outside lane in a sheep wit adrenalin pumping I got up and hobbled over to safety to the hard shoulder then collapsed I had broken my back rutured 4 discs in my back which have no disintegrated an 8 hour operation and I can still walk after 6 months of hard work but I am in constant pain have to have morphine to reduce the pain I can still do little jobs on cars I help my sons who love to tinker with cars I gave my eldest all my tools over 15000 pounds over the years I had collected so I love watching shows like yours as I used to have a few American cars I had a dodge charger a 65 and a ford terino starski and hutches car but mine was the four door a jeep wagoneer 68 model which I restored it was right hand drive so I modernised the electrics as it had not one relay in it I put lalogen headlamp bulbs in it and when I was driving along they used to keep going on and off I thought what the heck then I felt the switch is was red hot so I had to rewire the headlamp circuit and fit relays so I did the whole lot I got a Nissan patrol fuse box and wipermotor system and mechanism so it would have delay and all different positions it had denim seat as it was a special edition jeep and they were immaculate after I had cleaned them it had a straight six petrol engine in it with a horrible carburettor it did 5 mile to the gallon which nearly bankrupted me so my friend was scraping a bedford ten ton truck it had a six cylinder cummins diesel engine n it he the guy who works for cummins he put the engine in the truck himself so I bought it off him as it had only don 6 thousand miles hardly run in and was the same size I had to convert the flywheel of the jeep engine to fit the cummins and make a new back plate which watts engineering made for me they fitted a new centre plate on my jeep flywheel to fit the cummins and made me a new backplate after I made them a cardboard template they did an awesome job and it cost me 345 pounds to have done I drained the fuel tank which wasn't much left in it swilled it out wit deisel fitted an water trap and twin fuel filters fram ones used the same radiator had to make a new down pipe for the exhast some new cable adapters I fitted a snorkel as well while I was doing it a sealed air box and she was done she ran awesome apart from I had to change the crown wheels to get more top end speed cant remember the ratio now but once done she was faster than the petrol and had lots more power with the turbo on her and I could now get nearly 20 miles to the gallon cruising and 25 on a long run so I was well pleased and off roading was so much better.well that me no one will probably read this its just fun remanising the old days oh well I shall say good night from me john from Rugby UK.
Hi John Great story, I do hope you saved a copy for your sons to read. I could use a guy like you with your experience. Enjoyed reading of your cars and their restoration. When you love what you do it doesn't seem like work just pure satisfaction. Also enjoyed reading about the diesel world there in the UK. Thanks for your story and thanks for watching!
Like this if you love 2nd gens as much as I do!
I want this badly
I have the same truck with a FLATBED HELL YEAH CUMMINGS
I run an 02' cummins, all stock except for turbo back exhaust. Other than front end I wouldn't take a 100k for it
WelderUp goddammit that’s beautiful!! I’ve been a fan of 2nd gen Cummins since I was a kid!
The Chrysler slant 6 is a die hard engine too you can't kill them
100K for a new truck or 100K into a 20+ year old truck? 🤔 I’d take the classic allllll dayyyy
12 valves are eco friendly, they recycle themselves unlike an electric prius.
also thought i might add they started testing the 12v engine in dodges around 1985, theres actually one of the first prototypes made in 85 with a 12v still around, they did years of testing a big problem was the 12v had to much power/torque and was destorying transmissions and about everything els lol, and thats why the 12v is Detuned from factory and is able to make around 400hp with simple fuel mods as you said, pretty cool thought i would share, cheers
Wish I lived closer so you could build my shop I love your attention to detail .
Love it!
Cummins was started in 1919 because I did a school project on it last year and I remember it was the 100th anniversary.
Great Story, totally agree on the 300-6. Ran a new one for the forestry service 40 years ago.
I definitely love the body lines of the 2nd Gen Dodges! Just an overall beautiful truck!
$100k truck should come with 3 axles, 10-18 speeds and able to pull 80K lbs. I’m old school too, that’s why I’m going to stay with my OBS 7.3 crew cab and my 03 7.3 super cab.
I daily drive a 12valve 1st Gen with over 400,000 miles and It’s by far my favorite truck I’ve owned.
I got to say I agree with u Ole 59 with. A new p. Pump stacks out the bed. ❤
Man gotta love how clean the 2nd gen looks...Cummins all the way
No doubt
We have a 99.5 3500 Laramie Sport XCab 24V 4X4 dually 6 speed. Has 140,000 miles on it, black with pearl flames, HX40 turbo, 100 horse injectors, k&n intake, edge box and custom exhaust. Just a tow pig for us but still my favorite truck we've ever owned.
I bought a 05 dodge ram 3500 6 sp. Manual about a year ago so I'm new to diesel power, love it. Thank you for the video it's so much good info.
Glad to hear it!
I’ve had my 1998 2500 since 2000. She has 300,000 miles and still going strong! Love the 2 nd gens!
That’s exactly why I love my 97 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 with the 12v Cummins!! 460000 miles and still running strong!!
First gen for this guy but it's in a 79 gmc crew cab with full air ride in the back on 4" lift. Still building it.
Love to hear your stories. Keep them coming Steve
looks so goofy with the mirrors folded out, really big fan of this truck though. 2nd gens are some of my favorite trucks
I drive a 98 12v 5 speed quad cab 1 ton dully flat bed 4x4 leather with the rubber floor. Probably 1 of 1 custom order. Holy Grail! My youngest daughter says she gets it when i kick the bucket. Love my 2nd gens!!
I have a 1981 freightliner w/400 cummins, I did same with old oil, I put 5 gal. used oil with 150 gal.diesel rite in the fuel tank. Ran just fine.
Amen brother!
Love my second gen P24V. The p-pump swap was a bigger deal than I thought, but worth it!
Just bought a 2000 Cummins 5 speed I’m loving it
Do away with the factory lift pump and go with a fass. Itll make your vp44 last way longer. You'll love it even more
Thanks for posting this video Steve I learned some things about diesel motors. I love the 2nd gen 12v dodge trucks too. Yours is really slick.
Glad to help! Thanks!
Awesome ! if I ever had someone build me a custom truck, it would be Steve .. .
I have the 98.5 2500 4x4 I love my truck and never will I let it go. Beautiful truck by the way!
I Found a 98 12v 5spd 4x4 3/4ton short bed 155k original miles. It’ll be in my will when I die. These trucks are power houses!
I'm more of a Gen1 kind of guy myself, but the benefits that were added in the second generation are undeniable. Combine the two, and you'd have one hell of a truck IMO.
@minterfab It's not all about power. IMO, Gen1 Rams are the best looking of the square-bodies and what I love about a 6BT Cummins is its reliability.
@minterfab Fair enough. I just felt like being the voice of reason for some reason lol.
I own two 2nd gens bother 24v one auto an my other one a 5speed. Love them I’m young an will always own a 2nd gen!!
Such a pretty 2nd gen, wish I saw more of them. Love the bumper and the stance. Be a awesome daily driver.
Love the story behind that badass truck. Love the sound of a 12 valve Cummins. Great video today keep up the good work.
Great truck
That's the way it's done. I'll share this with my son.
@@WelderUpVegas with there was a way to show ya my portfolio of trucks I've had/built. Been looking at their pics wishing I had some back!
My heart sits with that 24 valve Cummins
I agree the 2 gens are a badass body style
I own 1999 5.9 24v once you have a good lift pump cool down the vp you are golden. Good set of batteries to start that beast. For sure a gauge for lift pressure and she's will love you.
I didn't know I liked 2nd gen Dodge duallys until I watched this video.
I have a 97 dodge 5speed has over 400,000 miles on it and I drive it every day it cranks up and works every time I need it The most reliable Diesel Engine ever made
I'm with you Bro on your Diesel Choice! I'll buy a new Car but love to build a Great 2nd Gen Dodges!
Do it Larry! It's a great feeling to drive something that has your hand in it.
I have an old 93 ford here I'm putting a few thousand into but doing all my own work from stem to stern lol its a gasser but love those older ford's man even if some may not agree.hahahaha Fix Or Repair Daily right.
@@JoeRocket-sf6qs Make it a Fummins and it's an automatic 10k increase in price!
Oh and mama’s ride is an 2005 6.0 powerstroke excursion .
Badass truck for sure!!! Hands down...
Finally someone That knows wtf there talking about 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 clean 2 gen
Beautiful truck! You hit the nail on the head with injectors. My 3rd gen needs injectors and I cannot believe how much a set of stock injectors cost!
We got 356,000 on 97 2wd 21mpg. Runs GREAT.
Loved the comment about the ford 300 definitely best one made I’ve got a 1980 f150 360k miles and still going strong.
love it i use to drive my bosses second gen it was a 99 it had the 12 valve with some head work it was fast we took the auto trans out a put in a 6 speed it pulled all of our trailers with no problem.
I got a 1984 crew cab on a 92 club cab frame. 98 ppump with a nv4500. had a couple 24 valves but nothing beats the ol 12 valve
Got my 97 12v 2wd truck for 1000 bucks. Needed a turbo. Swapped a 5 speed in. I drive it all the time
Sweet. I just bought a 97 2wd from Texas and it's my daily. They're sweet.
Sharpie touch up! I love it
Looks like mine... my front number ain’t that thick though, and mine has twin 7 inch straight stacks in the bed.
Can't beat the older trucks, due proper routine maintenance and have a reliable truck for life
Though at around 300k you're looking at replacing the oil cooler on the 7.3, thankfully mine has 130k.
@@RiggyRonnie Usually yes oil cooler failure is about 200-300k, but I service the cooling system every 75k and I always use Prestone HD coolant, deionized water, and fords coolant system conditioner. So far zero rust issues in the cooling system.
@@seancedio6815Cool. For both? You should make vids on them. Did you put the miles on them and if so what do you do for a living to do that?
the deer that darts in front of you is gonna regret it! nice truck, my '97 just turned over 350k still goin' strong
Bad ass truck. Currently building an 83 crew cab dodge with a ppump 12 valve and an NV5600.
I've always liked Steve Darnell, but the fact that he will black sharpie blemishes on his truck makes him even better.
Thanks Mike!
@@WelderUpVegas no problem. Keep being you.
Great story nice truck! Have a 96 with 397,000 still running strong.
Love my stick shift dually 12v cummins
Love a 12v and love the 7.3s, stock yes there gutless but I'll take their reliability any day. Nice dually you have there. On the hunt for a 12valve myself.
Hell yeah ! I’m still rolling in my grandpas first gen farm beast along side my 14 6.7 Big butt Betty fourth gen . I really dig your truck it’s a BEAST that front bumper looks like it’s a pig shredding machine . Cool Whip
Very humble bro keep pushing love your show keep posting.
I appreciate that!
I like all your trucks and cars!
My kind of truck
18:21 life hack!😂
I got a 24v 2nd gen 189k hoping it’ll be like that someday interior wise and body/paint
You got yourself a dimond piece right there. Truck is a pearl! 💪💀
I’m in love....🥰....with the TRUCK! 🤣
You should do an update on this truck!
I love the Dodge and I have something that is similar but on a smaller scale it is a 92 jeep Comanche
I had a 93 extended cab 2wd auto. Bought it used when I was in high school. Sold in 2001 when I went to college cause I could not afford the repairs being a broke ass college student. Damn I miss that truck.
Better to get the education. We all wish for the truck we drove in high school. You'll get one someday.
Now I really want to buy a second generation. Thanks Steve lol😂😂😂
Lol great memories.
i wish welderup was still on air
We do to, but for now watch us on Welderup/TH-cam. Thanks for saying so!
Hey Steve.... you used the right words and that’s why I don’t sell my Diesel TLC FJ40... it is like a style of life...
I love that truck it's one sweet ass ride
Awesome 👍🏾👍🏾 yeah old school is best , but I only got a Toyota Rav4 1996 it does for now I fixed most of it lol I got it for free off my sister I've put 1000 into it to get it running and back on the road , and will put some better wheels on it later , and do body work for a better paint job down the track, 👍🏾 that's a cool truck 👍🏾
I had a Toyota also. It served me well. Keep fixing her up.
i used to love to work on cummins engines here in the UK as where I live in Rugby Warwickshire There is a massive Cummins factory where they make all cummins engines from marine ship and boat engines big truck engines and 4 cylinder engines for small vehicles like a jeep my friend works there he's an engine builder building truck engines he loves his job he went from school and thirty years later is still working there he is one of the best engine builders there and he trains newcomers to the factory me I am a deisel mechanic started a 5 year aprentership with rugby cement they used cummins engines gardener engines and international and cat bedford dodge so we had a massive fleet they came straight from the factory with just cab and chassis nothing else so we made the pressure tank they where all 8 wheel trucks double steer and long chassis with double axles eaton diffs 2 speed david brown gearboxes a few ZF gearboxes and the cabs where fodens ERFs A B C and D series cabs and chassis I worked there for 15 years then I moved onto be a PSV mechanic and engineer for fifteen years working on busses coaches and tour busses double deckers and converting them to an open top bus so top deck had no roof made railings and wind shields out of plexy glass converted bus engines fitting cummins into British leyland busses whos engine was terrible kept throwing rods through the floor made passenger screen seeing a piston coming through the floor at the back of the bus once we fitted cummins and daf engines not one ever had a problem and on nights all the busses and coaches were parked indoors over a hundred busses and fifty coaches .we used to pick up the chassis from the ferry from France and drive the chassis no cab nothing just a seat the engines were ethier mid or rear fitted a lightboard was straped to the front and rear a piece of wood and a seat bolted on no dials no dash nothing just a stearing wheel and pedels and a gear lever we would wear a crash helmet and warm clothing and drive them 300 miles to the body factory there would be ten of us from the same deopot we were all good friends and we would convoy are way up to the factory the furthest was in Scotland was nearly 650 miles away from over were the ferry would drop off saying that we had to board the ferry as no one would drive them off LOL we had a great laugh we still keep in touch as I left to join the royal automobile club as a patrol as I was also trained in light vehicle petrol vehicles as well as deisel
we did a load more in-depth training in fault finding in fuel injection and common rail dieasels which I already knew but didn't know how to fault find the electrics as big garages had there own electricians and we were not allowed to do any electrics while there was an electrician available which in my mind was a stupid idea but hay that's what the union said as we all had to join the transport and general workers union which was a waste of time in my mind, so I learned how to fault find injector faults ane ecu faults with common rail diesels we did a six month corse and then an exam an city and guilds exam which is what I took for my main mechanics courses after five years then I took the national craftsman exam which is an 8 hour practical exam on petrol and deisel vehicles with a half an hour break halfway through you were not allowed toilet breaks if you left the hall it was an instant fail it was right in mid winter there was a foot of snow on the ground I had to catch a train to London for the exam which was a 100 miles away from where I live I was 18 i caught the flue as the tube trains couldn't get to my destination as the points were freezing up I finally got to my bed and breakfast a 1am in the morning I had to wake up the people to let me in I went straight to bed they had no heating in my room and half way through the exam I got a double barrelled nose bleed the instructor said you cant carry on like that I said give some blue hand roll please so I stuffed it up both nostrils it took a half an hour to stop I was drinking my own blood as it was going down the back of my throat Yuk the instruckter just shook his head in disbelief so I carried on finally I finished the course ,luckily I got a lift to the tube station as one of the guys was going that way as I had to walk a mile and a half to the bed and breakfast in a foot of snow with just shoes on I manged to get home and spent the next week in bed with the Flue boy was I bad I can see the funny side looking back but at the time it was a nightmare anway a month later the results came through and I had passed with top marks even when I was held dead I think the instructor felt sorry for me seeing me in that state eyes streaming nose bleeding mess lol of course once you have took all those exams and your handed your aprentership deeds you think that all the exams done how wrong was I about twenty five exams later plus you realise you never stop taking them as a new system comes out so you have to be trained I enjoyed being a mechanic for 40 odd years I am retired now through an accident at work working with the RAC I was working on a broken down car on the motorway hard shoulder or freeway breakdown lane and a lorry driver fell asleep and hit my van hit the car I was working on and fliped me fifty feet into the air I landed on the outside lane in a sheep wit adrenalin pumping I got up and hobbled over to safety to the hard shoulder then collapsed I had broken my back rutured 4 discs in my back which have no disintegrated an 8 hour operation and I can still walk after 6 months of hard work but I am in constant pain have to have morphine to reduce the pain I can still do little jobs on cars I help my sons who love to tinker with cars I gave my eldest all my tools over 15000 pounds over the years I had collected so I love watching shows like yours as I used to have a few American cars I had a dodge charger a 65 and a ford terino starski and hutches car but mine was the four door a jeep wagoneer 68 model which I restored it was right hand drive so I modernised the electrics as it had not one relay in it I put lalogen headlamp bulbs in it and when I was driving along they used to keep going on and off I thought what the heck then I felt the switch is was red hot so I had to rewire the headlamp circuit and fit relays so I did the whole lot I got a Nissan patrol fuse box and wipermotor system and mechanism so it would have delay and all different positions it had denim seat as it was a special edition jeep and they were immaculate after I had cleaned them it had a straight six petrol engine in it with a horrible carburettor it did 5 mile to the gallon which nearly bankrupted me so my friend was scraping a bedford ten ton truck it had a six cylinder cummins diesel engine n it he the guy who works for cummins he put the engine in the truck himself so I bought it off him as it had only don 6 thousand miles hardly run in and was the same size I had to convert the flywheel of the jeep engine to fit the cummins and make a new back plate which watts engineering made for me they fitted a new centre plate on my jeep flywheel to fit the cummins and made me a new backplate after I made them a cardboard template they did an awesome job and it cost me 345 pounds to have done I drained the fuel tank which wasn't much left in it swilled it out wit deisel fitted an water trap and twin fuel filters fram ones used the same radiator had to make a new down pipe for the exhast some new cable adapters I fitted a snorkel as well while I was doing it a sealed air box and she was done she ran awesome apart from I had to change the crown wheels to get more top end speed cant remember the ratio now but once done she was faster than the petrol and had lots more power with the turbo on her and I could now get nearly 20 miles to the gallon cruising and 25 on a long run so I was well pleased and off roading was so much better.well that me no one will probably read this its just fun remanising the old days oh well I shall say good night from me john from Rugby UK.
Hi John
Great story, I do hope you saved a copy for your sons to read. I could use a guy like you with your experience. Enjoyed reading of your cars and their restoration. When you love what you do it doesn't seem like work just pure satisfaction. Also enjoyed reading about the diesel world there in the UK. Thanks for your story and thanks for watching!
Love this truck! Even with the wheels
