I've sewn so many different patterns and styles of masks over the past few months, but this is my absolute favorite. It's the easiest and most fun to sew and the most comfortable and well-fitting to wear.
Ok....you sold me on this one ! 😉. I will make some from this version. Looks simple enough and she gave us PDF....so this makes it even better. I bought some more fabrics to make more masks for gifts. My neighbours kids are back at school so I will make few for them. Our covid numbers are back in 300’s per day ! Going in the opposite direction, people.

I just knew Asian people would have the best fitting masks, as they wear them, already! I find this 3-D mask is the best! It fits perfectly to your face without gapping. I place a small piece of aluminum, in the top area where the nose it; and glasses do not fog up. My family and friends really love the design as much as I do. I have made masks for my large extended family; and our friends. I am still making masks, as everyone needs more than one mask. The U.S.A., has so many rules and masks are required, whenever we go outside of our house. I want to protect as many people as I can, so I will continue to see masks, until we don't need them. Thank you for the unique pattern, since we seem to be larger in the U.S.A., I might have to adjust the sizes a little. Thank you so much for doing this!

Actually if you read her blog, her mask design was influenced by a Spanish Instagrammer (ateliermaryribeiro). And she learned to draft the design from a Brazilian youtuber (Romilda Dias; video: th-cam.com/video/VrKVZjCIqu4/w-d-xo.html). I checked their channels and they are both great designers (:

Finally a really good face mask. have made quite a few different styles, and my glasses still fogged up! but this one, it's comfortable and works perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing your pattern. It's very much appreciated. Only thing i found is that the ladies size is small. for us westerners basically, but since you have larger sizes in your pattern, it's not a problem at all. I just make the standard men's size, fits beautifully. Oh and it's so fast and easy to make. LOVE it.

Thank you so much for sharing this pattern and video. It is so well-fitting. I’ve created a shortcut by eliminating the gusset. Instead, I lay the ends of the elastic across the ends of the mask folding over to encase the raw edges then secure everything with a tricot zigzag stitch.

Tip: I lay my elastic inside the fold before sewing and tie the knots afterward. I’m definitely going to try this pattern. Nice!

Made a lot of 3D masks. Think this is great with all the different sizes. I wanted a nose wire, pocket and elastic was an issue with family saying it made their ears stick out 😂 so I put nose wire in after top stitch and before folding. I cut main piece and lining the same size and an extra piece same height and shorter in width hemmed each side for the pocket and instead of folding elastic casing I turned it in half an inch, inserted 2 tabs each side and put rounded elastic with slip knots on tabs each side. Now they can sort out how long they need it. Perfect 👌

@@deiongreen3042 No sorry I don't do videos, just learning all the many techniques and trying to make the perfect mask. I absolutely hate wearing them, find them hot, hard to breathe but we have to wear. It's all made worse as I had pneumonia before Christmas, have COPD and asthma. There are many tutorials where they add a nose wire. For this pattern after cutting out the 2 pieces of fabric it is sewn then turned right side out and top stitched. On the top where your nose is I sewed a box round the nose wire but if you are not confident sew a box leaving one end open then you can slide nose wire in after about 3/4" down 4" wide. Once the mask is made you cannot get to the wire. There is a mask I tried, wasn't keen on it as it didn't fit my face so well but the nosewire technique was genious. You can take the nose wire out for washing or replacing. Type in DIY 3D Face Mask 3 Layers . The video is by AON Easy DIY (It's a navy flowery mask) and you just sew your 2 or 3 layer mask and on the nose leave a few stitches then carry on stitching and when you turn right way out then do your top stitching a bit lower down you have the pocket for the wire. @@deiongreen3042 i think it would be difficult to add a nose wire to this pattern as it's not straight across...at least with the aluminum nose bridge pieces I've gotten off Amazon. Actual wire would bend okay, but that's not comfy. i've been using, and much prefer, the nose bridge pieces as they're made for this application and easier than crimping the wire ends to keep it from poking through the fabric.I have made many 3D masks to donate, but haven't used this pattern yet or any with the scalloped part for the nose/eyes. I want to try this pattern though, and if i figure out how to add the nose bridge pieces that I'm using, I may just do a video tutorial.

@Barbara Sampson I have! I had some white plastic coated nose wires I’d gotten from Amazon awhile back. They are very similar to the plastic coated wires that are on coffee bean/ground bags, just thinner. They’re like 4” x 1/8” and have a thin wire at the top and bottom (2 wires). I easily cut down the middle between the wires. This keeps both wires still coated with plastic. Cutting like this allows the wire to confirm as well as gives you two pieces from the 1. I suppose you could now slide both in if worried about just the one holding up.
For this pattern...I mark the middle of the wire. Lay it on the mask and put a small mark on the lining a 1/16 of an inch or so on the outside of each wire end. This is the line I use to sew each end of a 3 sided box around the nose wire. 3 sides of new sewing since the box will nestle up to the top seam of the mask.
After turning right side out and before sewing up the opening on the ends, I sew 2 of the 3 sides and then slide the wire into the “box/casing” I just made. After wire is in, I sew the last side (Perpindicular to top and bottom of mask) to close the wire in. You can do this before or after you topstitch. Just allow room for top stitching in case you do that after, otherwise you might hit the wire with the needle.
Works beautifully! I wish I could attach a photo as I’m guessing visual learners will have difficulty making sense of my my instructions!

Thank you so much for this free pattern and a great fitting mask! I have been very annoyed because my glasses fog up with other masks. With this one I am good to go. I tied the elastic and then laid it on the fabric before folding over the ends. Then I was careful to not catch the elastic when I sewed to secure the folds.

These are the ONLY masks my grandsons will wear. They are 6 & 3 years old. My sister works as a cashier at Home Depot & she can wear this mask for 8 hours (with breaks & lunch) & breathes easily. Thank you for sharing; however I put the elastic in first (being very careful not to sew it) & put both sides of elastic through an adjustable pony bead. I have such bad luck trying to thread it through after sewing.

I am impressed with being able to cut so neatly with the rotary cutter. The last bit of sewing looks like it is going through a lot of layers. I have 3 machines one will deal with it. Thank you. I have already helped sew 1900 of the 3 pleat kind that were donated. I will try this one because it looks like we are going to need them for awhile.
I had less problem sewing through the layers with this than with the 3 pleat one ..

@@debbiecook8230 Be sure that the "text square" on the pattern piece measures a full 2 inches when printed out. When you go to print out the actual pattern be sure your printer says 100%. I did not notice that my printer said 68% percent (factory setting) and the pattern printed out so small!. Easy fix! I've made two so far and they fit perfectly...only 40 more to go!
Do you have a recommendation on how we could add a nose wire and filter pocket? I love this pattern but no idea how to make the adjustments
This is my favourite and I make up to 30 in a row by chain piecing each time.

Just made medium size for myself; will try larger size next time, but fit is good & tight around nose, cheeks & chin. Quite fiddly compared to other masks with horizontal folds: but I find they need a nose wire to close gap. I’ve seen a few patterns with vertical folds, which looks good.

@@SabtsukyFanimationStudio They are pinking shears. The cutting surface is jagged which means you don’t have to slash for comfort. Pinking shears also make the “pinked” surface less likely to fray or ravel.

I just made this in the ladies size and it fits my face perfectly and snug against my nose so I don't think I need the wire for the nose which is great! I have asthma so like the extra space for breathing. I tied my elastic together and sewed it inside before sewing down the first side pieces. I had bodkins but prefer my method as it's quicker for me. I only wish the instructions were in a word or pdf so that I don't have to refer to the video.
You could grant your own wish and type or write them out for yourself. I'm surprised . Next comment will be, it would be so much easier if you just sent me the finished mask. Then I wouldn't have to sew it myself! 😂
Once I'd made one I only had to watch the video once more on the parallel bit and then by my third I just breezed through. Muscle memory :)
The width matched but the height seems to be smaller when finished. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Example, the medium should be 20 w 15 h but it’s 20w 13h.

Use a Bobby pin to push it through and tie them to fit. Then hide the knot in the hem.

This pattern is marvelous for sizes M on up and all recipients have raved it to be the most comfortable and best coverage mask yet. However, I have found that, with the S (I don't even want to XS), if I fold where the diagonal meets the side (3:58), there isn't enough room for each side to lie flat without bunching up against the other side. And then, when the last folds are created to make the 3D, they either have to overlap one another or else the tips must stick out beyond the top and bottom of the mask. Has anyone else experienced (and solved) this?
