In 83 I went through WSSI school at Quantico. To get into the school you had to swim 15 laps at the training tank. We started with 45 students and graduated 6 of us. The last test was us being jumping into the deep end from the high platform with our hands and feet tied together. Jump from the platform retrieve the 10 pound plate show it with our limbs tied and swim a full lap. Four years later I swam a 24 hour race at Camp Pendleton and took second place. So far because of that training I have saved the lives of three Marines and one civilian who I had to pull from the deep end of the pool where I lived. No medals for any of that, but the perfect thank you from a captain who I had saved years earlier who shook my hand and gave me thanks.
How many have you lost? that is the real straggler. One here and that is why I volunteered for SAR. the look in his parents eyes as I climbed out of the lake alone was lifelong. 47 years ago and their look is still like it happened yesterday
If i know it would have gotten this easy, I would have waited to join, instead of joning in 83'. lol. But seriously, water aerobics is the read-deal!!. I love seeing them Marines ATTACK the water!
That is cute, ladies. All Navy SAR swimmers do that underwater (no diving in.. feet first and push off the wall) then get out in unison with the precision of a drill team. Do that about 16 times and see how ya breathe. If anyone came up for air.., we all did flutterkicks and jumped right back in. We will still come save ya. At 62 I still can squeeze 127 PSI with each hand. I still weigh 156 lb.

You saved three marines from drowning. That sounds like something from a movie.

When I went through water training in the USMC, we had to swim with wooden rifles. This was probably the hardest part of my training. Semper Fi
We had rubber coated M16s that were heavy as hell....
the rifle IS a paddle .

That guy jumping on the board in the background is hilarious
Looks more like pool PT than advanced swim training.

I learned early while in the fleet. Always size down in your cammies while swimming.

Why does it seem kind of relaxing
