    This video was demonetized by TH-cam so essentially no one is able to find it anymore, except you, you somehow stumbled on upon it. Welcome!
    I'm going to be accused of being an AR guy but yes I'm biased towards this gun!
    The rifle has come along way since the old A1 version and I think people love to over look the valid reasons why its never been replaced.

      The Soviets actually started experimenting with small bore rounds about the same time as the Americans did. Also while the US military did research into small calibers they didn't request the AR to be scaled down for 5.56, nor was Eugene Stoner the one to scale it down, that honor goes to James Sullivan. No offense but i'm amazed at how much you get wrong in every one of these videos.

    The AK and AR platforms will never go away until ammunition itself dramatically changes. Both weapons platforms are just perfect for what they do and have been so thoroughly ironed out and built upon there just isn't anything other platforms offer that justifies switching over.

      @zidniafifamani2378 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      CTA does have more potential than SIG Fury or True Velocity Composite ammo, but in my opinion they still need many radical technological improvement to shave their thickness and reduce the heat they generate (CTA have more room and use denser propellant, which typically resulted their powder weight to be approximately 3 times heavier than typical brass ammo, which burn much more energy but with only marginal 10% increased bullet velocity).

    • @filmandfirearms
      @filmandfirearms 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      To be honest, even with radical changes to weapons technology, they're going to just adapt the current platforms because they're pretty much as close to perfect for ergonomics as you can get. AR ergonomics are light and easy to use for even the dumbest soldier. AK ergonomics, thanks to their leverage, can be used despite pretty much anything that might be clogging up the system

However, the Battle of Mogadishu made the Army painfully aware of the fact that M855, which is a steel-tipped round, is not effective against drugged-up targets, whereas the 7.62 M14s that some Delta operators were carrying had far more lethal potential. .458 SOCOM and other rounds were created to solve this issue, but as far as I can tell were never adopted on a wide scale.

      A reality is there is not "Wonder Weapon' or "Wonder Round" that does all things you want in all circumstances. The M855 is designed for use against Soviet troops with some body armor. To give more power without sacrificing the advantages of the 5.56MM ammunition (carry lots in a given weight). Boot up to 7.62mm or .458 and you now have less ammo the troops can carry. Also, as mentioned, bigger rounds drive more recoil and less controllability for troops that are not body builders in their off time. Unfortunately, you have to figure out the round that works in most of the situations most of the time and try to have some special weapons to address the unusual situations.

    DI/internal in-line piston action has a very low and perfectly straight recoil. And because everything can be exchanged with only a few tools, the competition and building community loves it.
    But the army... they love to try to replace the M16/M4, but in the end they always surprisingly find out that it would cost money and would chance infrastructure/logistics, so they don't do it.

    Hey Chris, just a tip from an internet pro. You might want to look into optics placement on your top rail. The general wisdom is that unless you have a monolithic upper, optics should be attached to the upper receiver, not the handguard in anyway. This includes "bridging" your optic, where part of the optic mount is on the upper receiver and part is on the handguard. The reasoning behind this is that a handguard can warp slightly from heat and/or rotate if the rifle is banged around or dropped. These effects can sometimes result in a loss of zero. If you optic is on the upper receiver only, your optic is won't lose zero in that way.

One of the big issues in switching to a bullpup like the MDR is having to retrain your entire fighting force for it. There's no real argument on bullpups being worse than AR's for reload time or target acquisition post reload with properly trained units (The french, british, and aussie units are proof) but the big issue is retraining our military for it. It makes sense to go Bullpup with MOUT being the modern war zone but the logistical nightmare is why I don't think the US will ever make a move to a bullpup rifle.

    I tortured the ever living piss out of my $800 AR-15, and it still works just fine. Here’s a list of some of the things I’ve done to it to test it:
    -Since purchasing brand new, this rifle has had well over 40,000 rounds fired through it, with no internal components needing replaced.
    -Mud test. 90 rounds full of mud, no failures
    -sand test: 90 rounds full of sand, one fail to feed on first round. Eject bolt, quick wipe with sleeve, put back together, up and shooting within 60 seconds, no more failures.
    -540 round mag dump as fast as I could reload and burn through the ammo. Performed in 5 degree F weather. Then dropped the scalding hot rifle in the snow to maximize odds of barrel warp. Still put 30 of 30 rounds into a 6 inch circle at 200 yards (which is all it was sighted in for at the time.)
    -current test in progress is 4,000 rounds of PMC ammo plus 2,000 rounds of Wolf corrosive, without any cleaning. Still functions smooth and shoots true. Not sure how long I will keep shooting it before another cleaning. Probably will clean it at 10,000 rounds.
    All told, I firmly believe this rifle, a 16” barrel S&W MP-15 Sport will absolutely go the distance and keep performing reliably. I won’t trust my life to another rifle.
    Aside from optics and a rifle light, this rifle is no different than when manufactured. I didn’t install anything internally of any kind at any point during my ownership. Factory trigger, BCG, Charge handle, trigger, springs, barrel, carbine length gas tube, gas block. Every possible internal component is factory original.

    In my opinion (Army Infantry and Civilian AR owner) is the two big advantages of the AR platform are the ergonomics and the customizability. I like that it is enjoyable to shoot, packs a punch if I need to defend my home and I can try different accessories and configurations. As for reliability, I have fired thousands of rounds with no malfunction and a large portion of the malfunctions that I have experienced are due to operator error (failure to properly seat the magazine) or an issue with the magazine.

The brigades had to buy them specifically, they were not "state property", and that goes to say to what lengths they had to go in order to get what they considered to be better weapons.
    Not 100% sure but I think some units are still using them even after the ARX issue.

    I've never heard the myth that 5.56 tumbles in midair until this video. I was aware how the round tumbles *in the target* but how could anyone assume a rifle throws rounds willy nilly with any semblance of reliable accuracy.

    I qualified expert each time with the A-1 and all three times were well before age 20. The last time, at the 200 yard sitting position, I hit a bullseye then 3 hits in the 3 inch spotter (which drove me crazy because the guys downrange had to tape the spotter, which took time). Then, shot five split the spotter spindle William Tell style. Full disclosure- I grew up with a bb gun and Grampa's 22 long rifle. My A-1 was with iron sights, which was the coolest thing, perfect sighting. I couldn't imagine optics... I heard about all the head shots with the A-2.

    A 5.56 full auto capable M16 is the best "assault"/outdoor general purpose infantry fighting rifle.
    A shortened, piston .300 BLK suppressed is the best CQB/night rifle
    A 6.5 creed/.277 Sig? with 18" barrel would be a nice dmr.
    An AK is a nice rifle to clear houses with in Sadr City.

    One thing I would like to have in any gun is the knowledge that I can always grab it reflexively and no it will fire, no matter what. That is one advantage the AK47 had. One time when I was in the army in 1978 we had gone to the range, and we had extra 5.56 ammo. The range sergeant gave us a bunch of the ammo and let us fire it downrange. I fired about seven thirty round mag's through my weapon, and boy it got hot. But it still fired accurately. That was about as far as I wanted to push my luck.

    Well from books I've read from solider during the Vietnam era. They said almost what you said.it would jam. It didn't have enough umpf. To penetrate in the jungle. But they also said when that weapon was working correctly. It was a gem!!.looks cool.

    I love the thing, I have a couple of them in 5.56, one in 7.62x51 and one in 300blk. Each has its purpose, from home defense, dmr and long range. It's not a perfect weapon, but damn near it.
