Disassemble as much as possible. Spray it with rust colored primer. Repaint with the color of your choice. Use thinner to dilute the finish coat and use a rag to "blot" the surface to remove color thus exposing the rust underneath. Or, paint it rust color, apply small amounts of Rubber Cement. Let dry. Paint the model the color you want to have and then use masking tape to remove the fresh paint over the Rubber Cement, thus exposing the rust color underneath. Practice on empty Coke cans first.
