  • In this video you are going to learn four things when it comes to the difference between running on curved treadmills without a motor and flat treadmills powered by a motor:
    1. How do the different treadmills affect the load on muscles and joints?
    2. If you run at the same pace on the two treadmills, does it cost the same amount of energy?
    3. How does their design affect your running technique?
    4. Which of the two is most similar in effort and running technique to running outdoors?
I also mention two of my other videos and they are:
”Running on treadmill vs. outside - differences in injury risk and energy consumption” which you can find at: • Running on treadmill v...
”Inspiring environment makes you run faster” which you can find at: • Inspiring environment ...

"Fantastic running course. Fredrik is an excellent teacher with a unique approach. I highly recommend this course to runners of all levels."

"The best money I have ever spent. Great mix of humour, practical technique and theory. It’s brilliant and I have been telling all my friends about it. I’ve knocked 30 secs off my average pace to 4:30 and at 53 I’m absolutely astonished how relaxed I feel running. It’s also really helped my cycling my adapting similar techniques and visualisation. Thanks so much."

"Just wanted to say Im 2/3 through your running program and WOW what an insane difference".
    Runner, Texas, USA
”I have done the first two audio lessons now. It's amazing what a difference you made for me. I ran 90 minutes yesterday and have never felt so refreshed both during and after the workout, and then I have never run so fast with the same low heart rate. Thanks for that!!”
Update from a runner after two of the six audio lessons
I can honestly say it is some of the clearest and best instruction I have ever recieved in any topic. After a year of shin splints I went for a run yesterday and was almost in (joyful) tears because I had zero pain, so thank you!!

”I got your online course and it almost instantly fixed my running form. I can prove that by having half an hour faster marathon finishing time.”
    Runner, Indonesia
"I knew nothing about running other than put one foot forward in front of the other...and fast. Then I signed up for his course. Mind blowing!... and too cheap if you ask me. Totally recommend it."

The key workout to run a 10k in under 40 minutes:
    1) Warm up progressively for 10-20 minutes
    2) Run 9 consecutive kilometers at 4:00/km pace
    3) Run 1 kilometer at 3:59/km pace
    4) Cool down 10-20 minutes, as needed

Skillmill and never having to set the speed for me, all the way. Also you never have to think about running out of belt because the curve makes it impossible fo run off the front or fall off the back.

I was thinking about buying an expensive curved treadmill. This video saved me a lot of money.

With lots of space an unlimited money I'd probably go for something like a skill-mill and a top end flat motorised treadmill.
You are absolutely never going to do strides and intervals on flatbed regularly. It's just too much effort to make it work naturally. On a curved un motorised it's simple and you might simply follow watch prompts for a workout. On a flat you will have to break stride to adjust speed. All the UIs blow for this
Also you can do a bunch of conditioning on a good curved. e.g you can move backwards and sideways on a skillmill. You can use the handles to treat it like a sled push and there are rear attachments to use it as though you were sled sprinting.

I think there should be some treadmills that you can program the intervals in advance, so you would not need to break stride.
Ideally you could have one that connects to your watch and gets the program for the work out from it (like smart bicycle trainers do).

@@squngy0 I've always wanted something like the skill mill to do this with resistance. Maybe more for sled type pushing stuff than running, though imitating hills with resistance for running might be fun too. When I have brought it up with sales reps, who have spoken about it already with product engineers at industry events, it is always safety that seems to put them off. It would technically be trivial but the lawsuit after someone face planted from a transition (they programmed)might not. A bike most usually has a freewheel; my legs didn't come with one.

I hurt my back on curved treadmill because of overstriding - don’t recommend for distance runners

When using a flat treadmill, I always set at 1--2 degrees depending on model unless doing an uphill or downhill workout becuse I have seen lots of people get injured/nearly injured running on a flat 0 degree incline in the former running club somebody in my area ran. I started in 2009 running at a 1--2 degrees after I inured myself on a flat treadmill and I could not run for a 2 week period in deep winter. This was before prices on cheaper full shoe ice spikes/crampon that they were not $70+ minimum much as a cheaper model of name brand running shoe is now so I could run in winter on the ice when other weather like wind/visibility or very cold was not an issue. I have those full shoe crampon from a higher level cheaper model around $30 of the and for running where I have some exposed paved surface I got YAKTRACK Ice Chains when coil style became brap as the og brand called Ice Chains were very pricey.

Nicely explained. In essence, curved treadmills tend to promote over striding.

How about a flat non motorized treadmill? They do have those

    • @squngy0
      @squngy0 11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

It would definitely be harder than a motorized one.
There is always going to be some friction to move the belt and if there is no motor then you are the one who will provide the energy to overcome that friction.
Compared to a curved one, I don't think there is a lot of difference, except that you lose the advantage of being able to quickly change pace.

1:55 I think the reason that treadmill running can be harder than outside running, could also have to do with the difference in heat dispersion, as when you run on a treadmill, the air around is not moved very much, where as outside you will constantly move in to new air, increasing the heat dispersion to the air.
Also the indoor temperature could just be plain higher, making the heat dispersion even worse.

Martin, Duh... he's already covered that ages ago in another video. Get with the program. You don't know more than him. There is nothing related to running that you can come close to him on!😢
