    In this video, I put on each and every piece of my Hoplite panolopy and weigh them as I go. This witnesses the first time I try everything on. Comfort and mobility are quite good and the pieces interact very well.
    Stay tuned for a follow-up video where I will go into more detail about everything I made for this set.

    You finally did what we all have dreamed once in our lives.I will already wait till your next video. Thanks for this unique content and explanation and process which literally nowhere can be found online.Maybe there are around 5 people in the whole world doing those recreations at least of whom i am aware of but you show us the whole making behind the scenes which is really unique. Its my dream to work in experimental archaiology and you inspire me a lot.

    Only thing I'd like to see, is you double up on your pteruges strips, having them overlap so that cover you as they are intended, it's a easy fix and I think would look alot better. As it stands right now, the pteruges would be pretty ineffective against thrusting or slashing strikes. I also understand this is just a costume, so you do you.

    As a northern barbarian, you look Greek enough to me! Just beautiful work, the cuirass, the greaves, the sword, the helmet, it's all fantastically done. I think you really straddle that line between historically accurate and creative liberties very well. Not 100% accurate, but not overly stylized either, it still looks like you went by the real thing as guides.
    I think the first video I saw of yours was the cuirass, then I went back and checked your other videos, always waiting for the next hoplite piece!

    You can loose some weight if you get rid of the leather pteriges(that leather gorget and skirt) and if the sword's handle was made of organic material like bone or wood. It would be closer to the historical counterpart too. But damn the armor bits look awesome!

    • @ThakIronworks
      @ThakIronworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sword handle is wood. The leather bits hardly accounted for any of the weight and it really doesn't feel like it needs to be much lighter.

    The set definitely looks legit! I think maybe the breastplate, and shield are tied for the best looking pieces. My least favorite aspect is that the almost spherically rounded top of the helmet, kinda makes your head look really big. :)

    I AM GREEK,.... I WILL TELL YOU 2 REAL SORT STORIES FROM ANCIENT SPARTA.
    1st) One day an Athenian asked a Spartan why for Spartans is a shame to throw their shield on battle and not a shame to throw their thorax or their helmet....The Spartan answered to him.... because thorax and helmet is for your own personal protection, but shield is for protection of all phalax.!!!
    2nd) A Spartan had paind on the center of his shield a real size fly....someone, asked him,.....Why you have painted a small real size fly on your shield while most Spartans they have painted much biger paints on their shields......the Spartan answer....Then my enemy will be very close to me and my shield, will watch this small fly as a Lion.!!!

    You look to be at a pretty good build with that weight. Maintain that and build endurance at this point, unless you want to start to seriously bulk up, but that takes a lot of work for most people.
    Also, running long distance in armor, at least a linothorax, was an Olympic event and was very difficult. No helmet though, but I guess that would be seriously crazy with how hot it would be and how heavy it is.

  • @lilalmonds4595

    If you’re not too worried about historical anachronisms and wanted to add more you should consider some of the surviving archaic hoplite panoplies, or even Mycenaean, but if you want to keep the classical look you’ve already got that covered splendidly

  • @Mr.56Goldtop

    It's been told that an Athenian walked up to a Spartan warrior and asked him why they used such short swords. And the Spartan warrior answered, "It's long enough to reach your heart". And the Athenian walked briskly away.
