    100% agree with everything you said
    Option B: when I'm cutting the rounds myself, I'll make my cuts above and below the big knots. This gives me fewer 16" rounds, but they're super easy to split. This will produce a few smaller rounds with knots, I'll split the knot-free parts of these smaller rounds into kindling and leave the knots as chunks to toss into an already established campfire.

    0:27 Knots comes from a cut off or broken branch or do knots form with existing branches?

    • @iamnotcreative4041
      @iamnotcreative4041 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      knots are formed in the trunk of the tree by branches growing out of it, so as a branch grows the knot in the log would grow too at least that's what I understand it to be.

    • @bloognoo
      @bloognoo 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yep, all branches grow from the heart wood and out through the side, creating knots to navigate. By the time you get to log splitting, all branches have been broken or cut off.

      Mayonnaise, butter or any cooking oil.
      I worked in the woods for years and one of the most annoying parts of the job was pulling gobs of pitch from my beard and chest hair. On a fire, this logger from Colville, asked why I was pulling my hair out. He threw me a packet of mayo and said try this. It dissolves pitch immediately. It removes pitch from the steering wheel of the truck, tools, hair, and skin. Packets of mayonnaise are an item in my saw box😊
