That’s how it goes.... I hooked 5 off the beach a couple weeks back and got ruined. At least you had some action and got to hang with your friends.
Went fishing for snook off the beach one day using a little 4000 size real and hooked a 120+ pound tarpon. Broke me off and destroyed the reel because all it does now is clicks and locks up reeling in

The more they speak about the bait and the tarpon the bigger they get tossed the net got a dozen mullet by the time the video was over 30 on that throw tarpon went from 100 to 150 lbs lol great video and ull land the next one man

I’ve been on 3 trips for tarpon with my dad and I was the only one to get one to the boat. They are definitely the most challenging and hardest fighting fish I’ve ever caught. The biggest one was around 80 pounds and I thought it was going to pull me out of the boat. I’m right there with you on the circle hooks it’s a hard habit to break setting the hook.

Why type of reels and rod you recommend for tarpon?
I like a firm stiff rod! And a beefy reel that can hold a lot of line and has lots of drag. I’m a shimano guy @❤️
