Big mistake of mine in this video, that 1949 JD tractor is a gasoline (spark ignition) engine, not a diesel, granted it sounded like one when trying to spring to life but it's a gasser. I had a JD model 40 for very long time and at -35 to -40 here in Quebec Canada he was a starter , my modification was it was modified on 12 volts , the starter was redone on 12 volt , 12 volts coils and ignition system and a AC DELCO alternator and all lights and gages on 12 volts too , when I was on 6 volts I was using one of my sailboat batteries that is a 6 volts 400 amps AGM to boost but after some time I have toasted the starter ….

Unfortunately I made a mistake, that tractor is not a diesel, it's a gasoline engine, as I specified in the pinned comment. Granted it kinda sounds like a diesel when winding up, that's why I got fooled too - but it's not.

if i see that detroit diesel have issues after 48 hours and with a punk who start that long in a row then my opinion is.... no brains for the punk and a very bad engine

IMT will never let you down
Great compilation and thanks for sharing. Too bad i can't be there to smell the fragrant fumes!
Fun video. But that JD B is an ignition engine. They never made the B in a diesel. But those are some large bores to try and get warm enough to run.
11:18, best start procedure ever!
Slowly, no rush, no pedal to metal, its freezing, the oil enter in all engine running parts, excellent !
That first tractor sounds amazing
I know nothing about the particular models but some Dutra used Steyr-Daimler-Puch Motors
He’s alive!!
Good idea starting diesel motor with benzin motor.
Their first diesel engine tractor 🚜 was the "R" which was much bigger than the B and had a pony motor.
Glow plugs, don't they work?
There is a spray...

Why do American diesels always take >1 minute to fire up, but Euro diesels are firing up in
engine "tight up" is worse than european.
@@kamilborkowski9504 Interesting, is "tight up" some kind of engineering term? I never heard it before.
Trucks and tractors are interesting vehicles

cruel , block heater ?
Have any of these people heard of starting fluid? That stuff works miracles in cold weather!
Not good for diesels
@@carlbergevin8376 if you follow the directions on the can it works!
Block heaters and glow plugs are way better when available!
Our Massey Ferguson tractors have such high compression either will give them compression lock.
A to lot of those things are bad for the engine because they don't have any lubricant type of quality about them
Yea, I remember starting the old JD's, chains on the back tires with a narrow front end so we could haul hay out to the cows. Good old days, my a$$.
Ya have to wonder who or what taught the guy with the Series 60 Detroit how to start an engine in the cold. Good Lord.
You should include some of the start ups of Slave Lake!
How many of us know of slave lake? Lol

-30 below? And that Deere fired up after a little complaining? Shoot, I wouldn’t… heck couldn’t. Not without a crapload of ether…

1949 John Deere B seems petrol engine to me. No black smoke at all is unusual for cold start diesel engine.
Yes, the Amish scrap starts super well in winter. Good if you always have new batteries mounted, but otherwise it will be a tragedy.
