Very interesting! I celebrate the day of Pentecost and am filled with the Holy Ghost. Always enjoy learning about new things. Be blessed! You have a beautiful family. Grocery hauls are boring to me. 🤣
Before I was a believer I had to do a huge study on Greek mythology and hated it. Lol. But I do teach it to my kids, but not intensively. We talk about the issues in it but I love how it shows why people did the things they did at the time. And I love it from an apologetics stand point too! I love tiger lilies and poppies!
We do mythology and I phrase it as “this is the way other people who don’t know about or believe in God explained why things happen in the world, but praise God we know through the Bible who is in charge and who created everything and we get to learn about him in his Word the Bible.” Or something like this- my 5th grader gets it and is often the first one to point out how living in the hedonistic way they showed in mythology was against God’s word and harmful for everyone. I find so many references to mythology in books, poetry and tv/movies so we’ve used it as a teaching point. So far I think it’s enhanced his education of the world around him and from an early apologetic standpoint.
I love learning about the holidays your family celebrates. 💕 I completely agree with your husband on mythology, but I had the same doubts at one time. I am not as fascinated with grocery hauls as I am on how everyone cooks their meals. I can use all the cooking lessons I can get.
Honestly, I’ve always felt weird about teaching Greek mythology but I teach it from a biblical perspective. That they believe in false gods and learning what they believed.
Exactly. So much of history are examples of humans dethroning God and "doing what is right in their own eyes." To see how one of man's rebellion started in Babylon with Ziggurats and polytheism, then spread across the universe....India, the Americas, China, etc.. Having a brief understanding of the names of gods and what they represent helps when reading good literature because they are sometimes referred to.
I agree with your husband on the Greek mythology. We teach it from a historical and Biblical perspective. My kids know these are stories from a pagan religion, but they are relevant to today. They need to know things like what “opening Pandora’s box” means, or why Cupid (Eros) is associated with Valentine’s Day (we don’t celebrate it, but it is prevalent in society), or from where the term “narcissism” comes. I do this with other pagan religions as well to explain things in our society, like Halloween and Christmas traditions (which we also don’t celebrate and explaining the pagan origin of the traditions helps them understand why we don’t). We are to be in the world, but not of the world. I’m not one to shelter my children, but always point out how the world’s ways go against God’s way.
Lol love Naomi talking to the camera....I've been on the fence about Greek Mythology in the future but I think teaching it from a biblical perspective makes total sense. I would probably tweek things if I felt it needed to be done....my favorite flowers are calla lilies....Thank you for sharing about Shavout. I love watching those videos...FYI you are funny lol. Love it! 💕
I am approaching this from the perspective of a former college professor. It is so important that children growing up in Christian homes understand the basis for contemporary philosophy and literature. Greek and Roman myths are their foundation. In the same way we read fairy tales and classic fiction through a Christian lens we need to do the same with religious myths. It will help them defend their faith later because it provides for for critically thinking about and accepting the truth and discerning the difference between false ideology and the truth.
I do think that teaching greek mythology is important for kids to understand why other nations would be idolaters. God would still show them mercy like when Jonah went to Nineveh.
Greek mythology is just part of their history. So many parts of cultures and history doesn’t fit our beliefs(like the Aztecs) but being able to teach it with a biblical background allows me to still give my daughter the history part of it. That way she isn’t going to learn it from the world later. I agree on grocery hauls, but like cooking ones.
I have nothing against teaching Greek Mythology. It can get kind of intense and there's a lot of grossness I wouldn't go into with young kids, but Greek mythology has a big influence in history and culture and even in language, so I think there's no great value in avoiding it altogether.
Naomi is so sweet talking to the camera!
Naomi talking to the camera is the best , angel
Hannah is such a sweet and gentle big sister ♥️

I came from Shasta's channel
Nice to meet you! Love that Girl!
About greek mythologie, you should look into the teaching of Dr. Michael Heiser
Yes, I am actually reading one of his books now.
I do think that teaching greek mythology is important for kids to understand why other nations would be idolaters. God would still show them mercy like when Jonah went to Nineveh.
Isaac 👍🏽👏🏽
Thanks!!

Thanks, it's really confirming to know no one, so far is totally again the mythology thing.
I think people need ideas about what to get for their groceries. 🤷♀️

That's a really good point... thank you.
