He sacrificed everything for a freedom he knew he could never have for himself. The true definition of a hero.

That’s the theme of the whole show. We see Luthen in the next scene say “I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see”, and we already know Andor’s ultimate fate.

What really sells that moment is Kino can still smile for just a moment right after saying "I can't swim.", since it was always his job to make sure his crew lived.

And what did Kino sacrifice?.... "EVERYTHING!"

I taught swimming for years. The hardest individuals to teach were adults. It took a long time just for them to get over their fear.

This line wrecked me. The writing in this show was so amazing. The writers make small choices that have huge impacts. Great show.

Emme’s reaction is so genuine. So many people just don’t understand what it’s like to not know how to swim. Everyone saying someone could just help him, or just jump and kick. You just don’t get it. I feel for Emme still not knowing how. I didn’t learn until really late and it took me a long time. There were tons of people who were very insensitive and just didn’t get it and made fun of me and thought I could just get over it. News flash, those people were not the ones who helped me. I had to make the decision on my own and seek guidance and support from people who were kind and patient with me. The amount of people who would just push you overboard in an instant to prove a point is astonishing (just from my own experience) and those people instantly lose my trust. They’re no longer a safe person to me. Sorry for the rant, but this is so real. Broke my heart when Kino said that.

      Well said.
I nearly drowned when I was young, so my parents made lessons a priority pretty quickly after that, and I'm a fairly strong swimmer now as an adult.
I love the optimism of the people saying that the others could have helped Kino, but when you factor in that it's a deceptively long distance, with waves (and/or riptides) and the (completely justified) fear to contend with, it's just not going to happen.

I love all the people saying just carry him like theres a reason life guards wait for someone to go under before diving in when you are about to drown you will grab anything and take it down with you

Seriously. There's a reason why it's not advised for someone who isn't a trained lifeguard to try a swim rescue of someone who's drowning. And even then lifeguards use flotation devices to help.

Man its such a simple small little line, but it absolutely breaks me everytime

Two people probably could prop him up, but it would be difficult. People who can't swim will probably panic in deep water, and they can easily drown someone trying to save them by trying to push above water.

The first half of the show feels more like Blade Runner than Star Wars, but the second half it does feel more like a darker Star Wars as advertised.
      *spoiler*
The prison is in the middle of an ocean. We don't know his fate. He may have remained trapped in the prison, or he managed to be carried to shore by another prisoner, or he did just drown, though I highly doubt that he is dead yet.
