Just a note it is not bruising that is left behind in cupping. It is Sha, stagnant blood coming to the surface which encourages fresh blood circulation and oxygenation of the tissues. Bruises are broken blood vessels due to blunt trauma. Some people are turned off to cupping when they think it causes bruising.
The blood pulled to the surface is often not stagnant, it is simply just low flow because the capillaries naturally have a flow limit. This massage to my knowledge is basically bruising the skin in such a way that it mimics something like a much worse bruise causing the body to try and fix an issue near that region but often all it really is is just a massage that leaves a little redness.
Yes, mine is a carpal tunnel in my right arm. Which it has extended to my shoulder and neck. This technique is really working for me, been under this condition for more than a year 🙂
i’ve been to physical therapy for three major spinal surgeries, nothing helps me get out of pain it’s been a year since the surgeries and i’m 15. i began to lose hope and i still have but my pt therapist brought the cupping idea and it’s the best thing i’ve ever had. i’m out not completely but at a normal pain level for like 20-30 minutes and it feels great. everyone please try this i know it looks bad and painful but it’s not it feels awesome try it!
Have you ever wondered what the function of Cupping Therapy is? Cupping is an ancient medical procedure. It relies upon creating a localized suction vacuum with fire or a device to mobilize blood flow. This blood flow thereby aids in the drainage of the lymphatic system. By stimulating the lymphatic system you’re giving the fluid that builds up between the muscle and skin more mobility to move outside the body. Not only does it move the blood through the veins, arteries, and capillaries, but also clears it. Some of these include sore muscles, tension, and clearing colon blockages. As well as, reducing stretch marks, improving the appearance of varicose veins, pain, discomfort, and aiding in blood circulation. Read on for more benefits. Cupping has proven to affect the body up to four inches into the tissues. This depth causes tissues to release toxins and promote healing. A cup will be placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction, which creates a vacuum. This draws up the underlying tissues. When a cup is stationary on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis forms and localized healing takes place. It’s important to be aware that cupping can leave behind some marks. With moving cupping, it is common to have red or purple marks left on the surface as blood is brought to the area. Whereas with stationary cupping round marks that may resemble bruises might appear depending on the severity of the stagnation in the body. These are pain free and can last from 3 to 7 days. In treating a client that has a sever trigger point, do you center the cup over it as it can get too bumpy when trying to glide over the muscle mass? Or do you set up the cups next to the knot? Wondering what the best results would be for this. Thanks.
this helps with adhesions? i had a pretty bad trap/supraspinatus strain in october that i'm still feeling the effects from (impingement, knots/trigger/points) and general stiffniss/soreness/tightness/toning. i'm wondering if it's bc it didn't heal properly and i was left with some minor scarring around my trap. this would help pull that away right?
I wouldn't call it bruising so as not to scare/confuse clients. I just call them markings since these do not respond the same way as a bruise. Other than that thanks for showcasing your techniques.
@@OverheadAthletics thanks for the vid, unique and interesting technique. I am just starting with cupping, but I have done trigger point therapy for about 15 years. In Shannon Gilmartin's book 'the guide to modern cupping therapy' she distinguishes between a bruise and a mark. She says a bruise hurts when you touch them, marks do not. I would also use the term 'marks' even though by definition it is a bruise (I looked it up on Google, and Google is always right, lol), people more associate a bruise with a mark that hurts when you touch it. Or tag on 'pain-free bruise'. I agree with Victoria, you don't want to scare clientele.
@@OverheadAthletics it's ABSOLUTELY NOT bruising. The color of from the stagnant blood filling the skin. The capillaries largely don't break. What are you telling people this for???
Yes, generally connective tissue known as fascia is the tissue that can become more fibrous and embed in the muscle and subcutaneous fat. Essentially allowing for little movement inbetween. At times tissues just need more blood flow in the are and separation mobilizes the soft tissues promoting a neurological response and increased blood flow.
Do you need that special gun or whatever that is for using this type of therapy? And how effective is this compared to other therapy treatments? Also if you do need that gun or whatever that is, can you specify what is it called and what to look for if you are getting one for yourself?
No, I’m a massage therapist certified in cupping therapy. The marks left by cups are not bruises. Cups do bring stagnant fluids to the skin, for trip take by the lymphatic vessels. Bruising is broken blood vessels bleeding beneath the layers of the skin. Bruising is damage done to the body. Where deeper vascular tissue must be repaired. Cupping, when done properly, does not do that.
Ali Koen so how do we as patients know if the “Dr. or Therapist” is doing it correctly? I’ve been having this done by a Dr. of Acupuncture- it definitely leaves a red circle but they don’t really hurt afterwards. (?)
Ginger King a dr of acupuncture should have proper training. And from there it depends on the type of cup being used. The hard plastic kaungzhu (sp?) cups, the glass fire cups and the soft silicon cups have different protocols for use. Generally a practitioner should avoid areas where the bone is close to the surface of the skin, or go over flat bone, (sacrum, scapula) carefully. The red marks left by cups is the point. That, when done correctly, is the aim, and assists the body in freeing stagnant fluids.
Overall considering the alternatives, I don't think this is a good path for athletic development considering the risk factors with frequent cupping, and chances of doing permanent damage to fascial and circulatory pathways. This seems like a holistic healing method that is more fit for life threatening situations. I believe compression garments and meditation along with bandhas are much stronger on day 1, and can invigorate and restore the body just as good for athletics, especially if are already experienced with channeling or meditation and have access to knowledge on the acupuncture points and meridians. Most people aren't fully immersed into their nervous system's potential.
Hi I can't really see your technique as the subtitles is across his body blocking what you doing. Maybe you can have the writing on the top of the screen ❤️
When teaching your techniques its not called bruising it is cup kisses or marks from bringing old blood flow that has been trapped in the tissue to top for the body to eliminate so i suggest take training on cupping, or use the correct terms.
Bruising is caused by broken blood capillaries. That is what the cups are doing. It’s like a giant hickey. A hickey is a bruise. I’d prefer and trust a therapist more if they tell me what’s technically happening to me over one that tries to use cutesy terms like “cup kisses”.
I just had my first time done, my shoulder that was not hurt, is the shoulder that was the darkest 😂 Anyway I can send a pic to let me know if you think it looks fine hahah.
@@OverheadAthletics it's misleading. If I punch you in the arm, it bruises. If I punch you in the arm a month later, it bruises again. You cup someone, it colors up. You cup the same spot a month later, it barely colors. It's not the same thing

There have been a few recent publications. But it depends on the question, effective for what? It’s a very small piece of what we do.
I wanted to learn to do this on my own are they placed on areas where you have the most pain ?
It’s advised that you seek someone educated in cupping. The cups are used over soft tissue and trigger points.
How many minutes we have to keep the cup in place?
Can you use Vaseline instead of Coconut oil? Or what other oils can you use?
Yes
Whatever you perfer
