Ok you guys had me cracking up with the old gas pumps and paying inside. Which is how it was until 5 minutes ago.. 😂😂 That was a long long ride but as usual you made it fun!
Wow what an experience this road trip is! I am new to the channel so I am sure my question will be answered in another video but, where did you start and where abouts in Alaska were you headed? I am moving to Canada hopefully next year and want to see if the trip to Alaska by road is feasible.

You only need a front license plate if the state you're registered in requires it. I had a Tennessee license plate while living in California at one point. California requires both plates, but I never complied because it's not a Tennessee requirement, which also helped get me out of a couple tickets from red-light cameras over the years 🙃 Other states, like Nevada, only require a front license plate if your vehicle has the ability to hold it, which is why I removed the holder from my truck when I lived/registered my vehicle there. Problem solved 👌
First off, thoroughly enjoyed your sharing of your trip. Nice camper van too. We followed the same route you took (twice actually, this summer, roundtrip early June to latter August and previously in June 2018). We even filled up at that self serve large metal box gas station. We left two signs @ the Sign Post Forest - the local hardware store sold small pieces of wood to create your own sign and the Sign Post Forest office gave us a drill and screws to install our signs. We did experience the detour on our return from the section of the Alcan that washed out (in early July I seem to recall). And those potholes are no joke either, we tried to avoid them, but a few found us…😢 Your video was awesome. If you get the chance again, check out the Kenai peninsula.
Hey Don, when we go back to Alaska we are definitely leaving a sign at the forest! It’s such a long drive but definitely worth it to experience Alaska. We did get a chance to visit the Kenai Peninsula and loved it! We’ve got a bunch of videos about our whole Alaska summer. Thanks for watching and safe travels!

Hey there! We crossed the border into Canada from Montana at Carway, went through Alberta to Banff and Jasper NPs, then continued through to Dawson Creek, BC then drove the entire Alcan to Alaska. If you’re going now I don’t know the status of any of the roads or snow along the way so I’d be sure to check the road conditions. Safe travels!
@@everydayeverydayjane2997 there are some steeper hills, but nothing crazy to the point where we didn’t feel comfortable driving or the van struggled at all. The main thing to watch out for is the potholes and frost heaves once you get closer to Destruction Bay. And don’t worry about running out of gas, there are many gas stations throughout the entire highway every couple of hundred miles. We always kept our tank above half
We don’t remember but it wasn’t a problem ever. We never went below half a tank of gas between fill ups and it’s important to know if you go that many gas stations close at 8 or 9 which I️ think we mentioned in the video
`Sometimes, when driving heavy trucks in outback Australia, one of the 20+ kangaroos that the truck hits and kills every night..........one will actually explode on the 'bull bar' and make a really smelly mess. During grass hopper plagues......they run off the truck as a liquid slurry........and pool on the fuel tanks.
@@Meghanandmatt It is...........but kangaroos in the outback are often in plague numbers. There have been culls in national parks, where the removal of 20,000 starving kangaroos has been needed.

Detail nerd here: Now you've got me pondering if "Alaskan Highway" means the same thing as "Alaska Highway." To me, "Alaskan" being something of/in Alaska, but "Alaska Highway" means highway to Alaska. I enjoy the fun nuances of the weird English language, and how similar words have subtle differences. But for the highway name itself, it seems that the sign at Mile-0 in Dawson Creek is the standard wording: "Alaska Highway" PS: I am enjoying your video series immensely :)

It was great! This road is the only road into Alaska. We started in the Canadian Rockies and we explored a lot of southern Alaska

No we didn’t need to carry gas. Everytime it was below half we refilled the tank. You should have better mpg too

Definitely! We saw people doing it by tent. You’ll just have to be extra careful and prepared for camping in bear country
