I'm a huge fan of Viltrox, and use their lenses on my Nikon cameras, choosing them over Nikon's versions. This 40mm is a great addition. These videos are very useful, and appreciated Ray. P.S. Love the colour of your Zf!

Hi Simon. Thanks. Yep, no flies on the Viltrox lenses, for sure. Sunset orange is my favourite, followed closely by moss green.

Ray, I must say that Viltrox lenses now seem to be a very good option for genuine NIKKOR lenses, either where Nikon have no equivalent or when you need a lens for infrequent use and can’t really justify the cost of the ‘real deal’! I’ve got the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 APC which is really stunning, for use on my Z30, and both the 28mm f/1.8 and the 20mm f/2.8. The 28/1.8 is a really superb lens while the 20/2.8 is similar to your 40mm - quite respectable but not quite up to the mark of the NIKKOR 20mm. Viltrox seem to have many more on their roadmap and I’m expecting great things. Not many years ago I would never contemplated using non-Nikon lenses, after some horrendous failures many years ago, but now I think the stigma of independents is gone. I’ve never had a client ask me what lenses I use, or indeed what camera system I use, so I think most of the furore is actually created by photographers themselves who perhaps doubt their own confidence! What do you think? 👍🏼🇬🇧

Thanks for the review Ray. I have the Nikon 40-F2. It's "okay". But I wasn't expecting PLENA performance for the price. I have used it on a couple of vacations and it did the job. Nice to see other companies coming out with Z lenses. I am sure we will get more and more good options as time goes on. Cheers

Seems like a nice lens Ray! But this one's not for me though, since I own the Nikor 40mm 2.0. I wonder what Viltrox will come up with next. I own a couple of their lenses and I'm very happy with them. Cheers
