In TDDDDI Special the whole special happened cause Owen gave up the $100,000 to win 1 million. So why would Canada have that happen if he wasn't the official winner on Teletoon?
I grew up in Winnipeg and was in 6th Grade when the 1st season ended the last Friday before Winter break ended, and that's what everybody was taking about when we got back in school.
I'm not saying Owen is the "official winner" since they're none, it's up to people's preference like how I see Heather as the true winner of WT tho others would say it's Alejandro cause he won in Canada but just like him Owen won in Canada, not Gwen

When I was younger I remember being so confused by the alternate endings. I remember seeing one winner when watching the finale on tv, then when watching on Netflix w/ a different ending I was questioning my own sanity and felt like I was having a mandela effect.
Yeah, I also remember being confused one time, when I was rewatching this episode off of another "TH-cam" video that had this ending.
i remember as a kid watching TDI and not very much the ending (as i was 5-6) but it ended with Gwen winning. i remember bc she was my favorite and i was so excited. anyway the show ended and i forgot about it until now. my friend wanted to watch it the other day and i got into it by myself and when i got to the end i was so confused. when i looked it up more ig its now two different endings in different places.

Gideon Garner Total Drama was made in Canada and in the Canadian version Gwen won, so she’s the official winner. They changed it when they aired in America so Owen won then, but Gwen was the original and official winner of season 1, at least according to the creators.
Gwen deserved to win, she has played a great, strategic game, she was Heather's biggest rival and they tried to sabotage her various times.

I've always liked Owen's ending, since he was my favorite character from the season. However, Gwen's ending seems more fitting and well-written. Both of them are deserving, and their endings are subversive in their own ways. Hard to decide which I like better.

There is no true ending or fake ending. the creators confrimed it multiple times
and 10 people on the show wanted gwen to win. six of them moved to Owen becasue he brided them (and originaly only five moved to owen. Bridgette moving to Owen's side was an animation error. When they noticed it the creators kept it so...)
They made Owen the finalist because he was one of the fan favorites aside from Duncan.
The way I kind of see it is in the Canadian version Gwen won and the show is originally from Canada so to me that’s what I consider the official version. The company did announce that in every season both finalists are winners and neither one is the “true” winner but idk that’s just how I see it. In reality neither lost but to me Gwen is the winner (I might be kinda biased but oh well it’s fiction lmao)

The TDA special opening with Gwen essentially having her wrist twisted to force the start of that season is REALLY a very tasteless moment that taints this ending.
