Thanks for making this. I am a major Solnit stan. I've read many of her books and couldn't wait to read her memoir. Read it last month. I really loved the explanation of the cover photo. I haven't talked about this book much. I think it was largely successful. My one disappointment is perhaps more a subjective thing. She hints at a troubled home life and does share a bit about both the dynamic between her parents and the dynamic between her and her parents. It is any writer's/person's prerogative to keep some things private, but she kind of darts around it enough that I felt it could have actually been explored more. That being said, it is clearly a painful topic and I think she did, as usual, a masterful job, particularly when she describes the universality/particularity of being a young woman, vulnerable, moving through space. I agree with you, that this book should have wide readership and men could probably learn a lot of what it might mean to inhabit the world in a woman's body.
I really enjoyed your discussion, and definitely plan on reading this one. I've read and loved The Faraway Nearby and Field Guide to Getting Lost and want to eventually read all her works.

Thank you! Yes I'd like to read more of her too
I definitely want to read more by Rebecca Solnit. I’ve only read Call Them By Their True Names, which was very good. Thanks for the recommendation!
