Inky was such a great inspiration, and always was very encouraging. She always was in my ear to get my live performances going. Gonna miss her dearly. Still can't believe it.
Inky was the first person to reassure me that there were no rules and I could use my crappy stereo speakers. I was always so impressed with her philosophy 😢 pure love x
Oh my word, such terrible news. Had one interaction with Inky after she featured on Dominic Hawken’s show, a series of comments and replies with her, she was so lovely. Two wonderful people right there that we have lost so terribly early in their gorgeous lives.. Sending Inky’s family and friends the very best from Ireland ❤
so sorry I couldn't make the live show yesterday 😞 I hadn't known Lisa for long to be honest, but this sad news still hit hard. In the short time that I did she would often suggest that I submitted stuff for Hardware Jams. Such a friendly person in the various livestream chats. An all round really nice person that will definitely be missed. I am watching the show all the way through now and reading all the wonderful chat messages scroll by thank you, Sonic State and a great show today also cheers, andy
To be honest Apple Logic in a standalone MAC mini / Apogee unit would be far superior to the Akai MPC line. They could probably swallow this market in a couple of years for the power and workflow alone.
I'm always glad to see new evolutions in physical modelling synthesis. When I first heard about physical modelling in the 90's, I thought it sounded very exciting, but the potential of it still feels rather unfulfilled, even 30 years later. As Gaz points out, the issue, and one that perhaps is perfectly exemplified by the evolution of the shape of the resonating bodies of string instruments, is that the combination of exciter and resonator exists in an equilibrium where it sounds its best, and you cannot simply adjust parameters and expect it to sound great, unless the parameters you've been given are highly tempered and limited with the aim of making it sound good most of the time, as indeed Elektron did with FM synthesis on the Digitone by making the main parameter changes affect the operator pitches only at harmonic intervals. Where physical modelling excels, then, is when you specialise it to create a single new acoustic instrument with it, like a modelled piano, for instance, but one where you can change its parameters significantly, but always retaining its essential piano-ness. Like Pianoteq does admirably.
Celin Dion wasn't actually singing live, and her vocals were even pitch corrected in the pre-recorded audio they used (if you listen to it without watching it, it's more obvious. It would have sounded better with less correction, of course), but her visual performance was still passionate, powerful and evocative, and created the necessary illusion, and for a moment such as that, I don't think anyone should expect a musical performance to be 100% live as that is too much pressure on someone who will know everything has to be absolutely perfect.
@@sonicstate Initially, I wasn't a 100% sure myself about miming, though I had my suspicions, but Wings of Pegasus who does pitch correction analysis videos also had a look at this one: th-cam.com/video/Oq1RUQOERWc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EBx8YKVXOBTlj-Gx Unlike at a concert where people pay good money to see their favourite band actually play live, I really don't think it matters in this case. It felt real, emotive, professional, looked amazing, and, as you say, conveyed the atmosphere of the event perfectly.
Thank you, Nick, for the nice mention. Why not invite Pete Goodliffe, the coder of the MPCs and the Force. I think he lives in Cambridge or Oxford. Yes, NI missed the boat with their Maschine, which is surprising given the resources they still have. Your obituary for Ms Inky was amateurish and, in that way, touching. You could see her body and her devices and hear thumping music that was annoying. No face. Why not? One also wonders why there was an obituary about someone who had no one on the screen artistically, but there was nothing about Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea and Lyle Mays. I find that unfortunate. Both should be possible. I'm not asking if Ty will help sell Inky's devices /cynicism off. Keep up the good work.
Woody you are the one of the most tone deaf people I have ever encountered. I will leave this comment here to see how people react to your words so that perhaps you will be able to dwell on them for the future. But honestly man have some compassion, or better still keep the thoughts that really should stay inside your head to yourself. I suggest you find somewhere else to hang out if you don't like it on this channel
@@sonicstate You know, it's probably too much to ask me to mourn the death of a person who was completely unknown to me when 16k kids and 10k women were bombed to death in 7 months of the Gaza war. I liked SonicState's visual support for Ukraine with the depiction of the country's flag. But there was nothing regarding the Gaza war. Too bad. But no matter what you do, I remain a fan of Sonic State. Best.

RIP Inky! i was blessed by her kind and overwhelming comments under my jams on YT
I was watching an MPC deep dive with Dom & Inky from late 2022 on TH-cam recently. Both gone now. Incredibly sad 😢

Sad news about Inky. She truly was a common presence and enthusiastic face in the online synth community.
Condolences to all that knew Lisa, may she rest in peace.
Thx SS for the tribute.
Rest well Lisa. x
Wow very sad ❤ RIP

Well mimed then, I should have known really, but she was a total pro and conveyed the atmosphere of the event
