Cheetah are definitely my favorite big cat, not only are they the fastest land animal alive but their personality/instincts are unique. They don’t have that auto kill drive when you aren’t looking at them, they honestly act a bit like wolves in the way they run down their prey.

Hissing like a domestic cat at 11:44 😭💛 makes sense, they’re far more closely related to domestic cats than lions and leopards-but we know the damage a house cat can do 😂 so I’m just glad the human caretakers have a good relationship with the cheetahs because even though they’re not heavyweights like their larger cousins, they’re still incredibly powerful animals. Even knowing all this, there’s still a part of me that goes “KITTY!!! 💕”

The cheetah would be an “appropriate exotic pet” in the sense they… I actually can’t word it correctly so I’m going to stop. But the reason they’re not acceptable as an exotic pet is because the enrichment they need is very large. A cheetah needs to run. So unless you have acres and acres and acres and acres and acres of land, among other important enrichment needs , the cheetah is not an appropriate exotic pet. I mean… I’d feel safer owning a cheetah over a lion or leopard obv, but at the end of the day… if I had a piece of meat marinating on the counter and my entitled domestic house cat jumped on the counter I have no hesitation shoving her off but if it were a cheetah, Id give it the damn dinner plate , that’s her steak now.

And I say appropriate in the way vs a lion or tiger which is considered not an appropriate exotic pet. To me, I don’t consider any of these animals being an exotic pet, but just wanted to clarify.
Also ostrich’s have eyes the size of golf balls and are considered watch towers in the wild.

Cheetahs are the weakest big cats. They are fast but fragile. it is mentioned in one of these videos. they mostly depend on their speed for hunting and saving their own life at the same time. If you look at their body they slim and slender almost like a super model. they dont have muscles, strenght and weight. They only hunt small preys. Other cats can hunt anything. For instance, Lions hunt everything including elephants and Rhinos.

It would be good to see cheetahs hunting in duos, trios, or more since there not really strong enough to take down big prey by themselves.

Only males, almost always brothers, form coalitions to tackle large prey. Females largely are intolerant of each other BECAUSE they're so specialized to hunt smaller prey. Females want to raise THEIR cubs, and small prey like a gazelle won't feed two or three separate litters. Further still, the females can't risk injury hunting prey like ostriches in groups, for the same reasons stated in the clip where the males hunted one: If one is injured, the others can't take down that prey anymore. The risk isn't worth the reward, so it's easier for an already specialized predator to simply provide for her offspring with their typical prey.
This is also probably why males don't stay with females: Their typical prey doesn't feed enough for mom, dad, AND all the kids.

@@Dinoman9877 Good point. Also, other predators already occupy the other niche, so they'd come in even more conflicts if they started going after more of the same prey.

If more cheetahs learned to hunt in packs they could really dominate the savannah! Not only would it help them bring down larger prey, but it could also help them defend their meal from other animals like hyenas and lions who often steal it from them because the cheetahs aren't strong enough to defend themselves.

Dominate the savannah I don't know, just not being the punching bag of all the big carnivores XD
After all, hyenas and lions already hunt in packs ;)

Male coalitions hunt together, enabling them to go after bigger prey. Even if cheetahs formed a “pack” as you say, they still wouldn’t be a match for hyenas and lions. They are fragile and have sacrificed a lot for their speed. Even a group of them wouldn’t risk taking on lions and hyenas. It would be a disaster for them to even try.

The cheetah is the most elegant, powerful, beautiful cat with a wonderful disposition as wild animals go. My favourite in all the animal kingdom. (The least likable animal: the hyena. )
