  • How to use the Jerven Fjelduken Hunter on the ground camping under a tarp and in the air as part of a hammock setup. If you have a jerven, both of these setups are well worth your time.
    If you are looking for a jerven, they are now available for the first time in the USA at www.betterbushcraft.com

    The last few weeks I’ve been sleeping inside my fjellduken with just my clothes and a militarily wool blanket. Works great on the ground.

      Excellent! It sure does. There is a fjelduken playlist worth a look from the Dutch military (I believe). Not in English and no subs, but really interesting nonetheless.

    I highly recommend it. Go for the insulated one. You won't get so damp in the winter. Used the thermo version inside a bivy bag out in the open. Slept well through -20 C. I was only wearing wool base layer. Go for the large one. Its nice to stretch out 🙂

    To old to sleep on the ground anymore so that hammock version looks like the way to go personally.
    A three hole knitted beanie winter ski mask would be a good addition to the kit.
    As always Jess great video and out of the box thinking!

    I use a similar system. Glued 2 space blankets to basha (2.2mx2m) and velcroed a snugpac jungle blanket. Used it in -5c and I was roasting. Inspired by this great chanel. Keep the great videos coming

    Im hard pressed. About the hunter and the extreme. It got really cold over here in Eastern oregon where me breathing almost froze my lungs. I cannot imagine being in the nights in the mountains with just a hunter.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@gospelninja2.016 Either would be valuable. The Hunter more versatile, as you can use it in milder weather by itself or simply add insulation inside it for extreme cold. The setup I showed here with it under the tarp and suspended is extremely powerful, an insulated thermal bivvy tent. In warm weather, you don’t need a sleeping bag. In colder weather (30F and below), add one.
      I have had this thing for about 6 years now and have never regretted it. It is not the only solution, but man, is it a good one.

    Nice kit. But you should really check-out Wilderness Innovation’s Poncho Survival Shelter/Osni Cloak combination. It is a true four season kit that does everything the Jerven system does but requires only half the gear. A little pricey…but well worth it.

    I think, if I was to ever buy one, would be to use it as a cloak for hunting, then tie it to my hammock as an under blanket for some extra warmth at night.
    Zipping myself into a waterproof bag would never be something I’d want to do unless it was some sort of emergency

    • @EnduranceRoom

      It takes some experimenting to figure it out. Seriously, it is some of my favorite kit and use it almost year round. Definitely not the only option, but a good one.

    👍👍👍 .. nice, very nice 😊.
    Hi Jess ..
    Good demo .. awesome gear. The Jervens run a wee bit above my budget (and more important, needs .. although it would be nice to have them just to have them .. then excuses will be found to use them 😏). However, I do have the 'Elephant Skin' Ground Sheet. A good piece of kit.
    I see, still snow your side. It appears to have run it's course here in the Northern Swiss Lowlands here on the Rhine, although there will be probably be a period/s of Frost (farmer's nightmare) before Spring is with us. Spring .. good .. but then .. Ticks! 😖 .. and with up to 50% of them in our region infected with Lyme Disease .. not welcome. Ticks here, actually put quite a damper on forest outings as one must always be acutely aware how and where one sets up a site.
    Great posting .. thanks. Shows that one does not need all that much to spend a comfortable night out. Good news for you guys too, getting a home source for the Jerven Products.
    Until next time then, my friend .. take care ..

      @EnduranceRoom  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Tommy! Thanks my friend. I really like the Elephant Skin. Glad to hear you do as well. Weather here had been unseasonably warm most of the winter, with sudden bursts of cold spells. Most of the snow has melted off now, but it will be intermittent for little while. Not a lot of ticks here thankfully. I have pulled off my share, that’s for sure. Have a good one! 🤝

    That large fast moving body of water sound isn't the Northerly white rapids part of the Hudson River is it ? 🤔🧐 What else in those mountains can move that fast I'm wondering 💩🤣🤷🏻‍♂️?? Unless maybe a larger waterfall feeding one the larger Adirondack lakes.
    I miss especially Indian Lake, & Big Blue Lake was it?, if I remember right. Sweet hooked up cabin around corner from the narrow intersection of both was renting for just maybe $600 a week at the time. 💛

    hey jess, thanks for run down. Is the ground setup you showed enough by itself without a sleeping bag inside it too, if so, down to what temps would it be comfortable roughly?

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, Dave. I run it with a foam pad outside, in cold winter, will add an inflatable insulated Klymit pad inside. You could probably run this down into the 30s without needing any additional insulation other than your clothes. Extra socks, gloves and a hat help big time for little additional weight. Absolutely phenomenal kit. They are expensive, but well worth it. Has a bit of a learning curve, seeing how to vent it and whatnot. I have had it for about 6 years now and would absolutely buy another one.

      No, but there are other ways of utilizing it such as wearing it as a cloak or a blanket (either unzipped or partially zipped), if that is a concern.
