Yeah, in case you're wondering. Punisher took down all 3 gangs (The Irish Mob from Hell's Kitchen, the Mexican Cartel, and the Dogs of Hell biker gang) who were associated with his family's killer Colonel Ray Schoonover, A.K.A. The Blacksmith.
Now he starts a new journey towards his redemption.
And another thing, the theme song is called "Hell Broke Luce" by Tom Waits.
Madani's mother plays a major role in "The Expanse" if you want to see more of her
John Bernthal is a beast...shame they cancelled the show but even in just two seasons John gives us one of the most layered and intimidating human marvel characters incredibly well.

i'm REALLY hoping disney + does an afterhours lineup like a "disney after dark", and brings him back. they need to think hard about it. they lost a mint on that mulan fuck up. they need money and already have a ready-made audience.
The performance is layered, the writing's decent

people talk about RD jr being the best casting in MCU for tony stark, but RD Jr made Stark his own and it was great, but Jon Bernthal was made to play Frank Castle, and Frank was made to be played by Jon.
Just like Ryan Reynolds with Deadpool. They were born to play that character.

Wonderful unnoticed bit, but...he is reading Moby Dick. His buddy is trying to show him how blind obsession and vengeance only leads to disastrous ends.

Yup. Definitely pay attention to the books he reads. Each adds subtext to his internal dialogue.
Best physical actor since Eastwood...the way he moves is brutal poetry. His eloquent body language elevates the show. Even on Walking Dead, same thing...and he can emote and deliver lines as a bonus, but the way he moves and uses body language is unbelievable
If Eastwood is your peak for physical acting, you are either just dumb or delusional.
Tom Waits is the artist who's song you heard during the fight scene near the end of the episode. One of the greatest American songwriters.
Hell Broke Luce! It's a good song
I always recommend people listen to Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, and Warren Zevon. Personally I think they're the greatest american singer songwriters.
Havent really listened to Waits after he was let go from the circus 😂
For some crazy reason I’ve had Filipino Box Spring Hog running through my head the last few days. I’d love to see a scene set to that someday.

Did you pick up on the multi-faceted metaphor of the soldier stuck in the hole story? Frank’s life, Louis’ intro, and then Frank literally knowing how to get Donnie out of the hole he dug himself into (with the rope and the money bag note “Leave Town.”) ... Just brilliant story-telling.

@@JamesVSCinema Glad you've finally got to this series. I hope you enjoy it. I loved Jon Bernthal as The Punisher but I'm not the biggest fan of the series, but that's just my opinion and if you like, I respect your decision.

Well then you really need to watch The Expanse. Shohreh Aghdashloo plays an amazing character on that show. Not to mention the great writing, cinematography, music, world-building, visual effects, and other great actors. I think you would enjoy it.

Season 3 final episode in daredevil shows it the best, how its so clear which of the 3 fighters' is the close, mid and long range fighters, the specialists at that range. Frank is like how kingpin will just fucking gorilla handle you if he gets a firm grip on you
And all the while this is happening, remember the Avengers are blowing up a building in Lagos and then Tony recruits Spider-Man to fight an airport battle
The song is an old military cadence. Thats why it fits so well to the scene

The rumor is that both are being brought back now that their embargo is cleared. Supposedly Daredevil will show up in Spiderman, Punisher in the Moon Knight series.

I can't believe they put a Waits song during that sledgehammer fight. Punisher and Waits, two of my favourite things ever.
One of the best tings about this show is how they take their time and really tell the story of a truly broken man.

that overhead shot of the small room was really good. the claustrophobic nature showcased how closed off he is
if you like Madani's mother voice in this, you should watch "the expanse", she steals every scene she is in...
And it is a great show all around! Highly recommended!

oh man, I've been looking forward to this. Season 1 of Punisher is my favorite season of any of the Netflix Marvel shows.
Pound for pound, one of the best comic to motion picture character depictions that I've ever seen. Just oozing over with everything from camera technique, flashbacks, visual markers, humor to gore ratio, strong character introductions and idealizaions. All the while depicting the process of making a kid a warrior bound by a code only known by military personal, that then tosses them aside when done, expecting them to adjust back to so called civilian life.
The director makes the viewer see, feel and understand the thought process and the struggle between mind, identity and where one might stand in the midst of all this.
And huge ups to Jon Bernthal for his depiction, absolutely superb job. Oh and hell yeah, Dinah Madani is smokin hot. Everything about her is amazing.

That song (Hell Broke Luce by Tom Waits) that played when he took those guys out with the sledgehammer was inspired by Jeff Lucey, a vet who committed suicide.
Daredevil and punisher were amazing series... sucks they didnt go longer but the fact we are getting charlie cox back and jon possibly coming back is awesome.
So happy to see you dive in to this series. It is super violent, but very awesome. You're going to love it.
The sound design is what popped out most for me - especially the weapons sound way more realistic in the Punisher.
Mother's actress was one of "24" S3 antagonists. She also played in "FlashForward". I don't always remember her face, but do remember her upon seeing her name in credits (Shohreh Aghdashloo if I'm not misspelling)
I’ve been soooo excited for this! I love daredevil and enjoyed the show so much but the punisher had me binge watching it in like a week

This is one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
It's in the first episode of the walking dead that I realised how good and versatile Jon's acting is. He's extremely underrated .

The trailer always had me hooked on this it was cool how they had the metallica song I think playing and matching it with the sounds of him loading guns and firing guns lol super cool trailer I couldn't wait for this when they showed trailer for it didn't have release date it was marked out like how they do in files but a lot of people figured it was going to be released in a military holiday
i know you already finished the series but it LITERALLY only gets better from here

Merry Christmas! This show is so good, they manage to pack so much into this first episode. You see an epilogue to DDS2, his current ventures, and then his return. Not to mention all the other characters we are introduced too. Excited for the next one!

Jon Bernthal is an amazing actor, and a great guy. I got to meet him in 2019, and he was a really nice guy. I also love that he's an East Coast kid like me.

I frequent some Vet centers in Alabama and Florida. Some veterans from Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and my time in Operation Iraqi freedom.. Good men and women, with haunting pasts behind them. I always volunteer during the holidays cause I been at the bottom dealing with past discretions and know I can lend an ear.
My most watched series. My uncle and grandma even loved it and cheered him on. Love me Some Frank

My dad's a massive comic nerd and collector, he never really liked the Punisher but this show and Daredevil won him over, Bernthal does an incredible job as do the writers.

Punisher was by far my favorite of the Netflix Marvel shows for a LOT of reasons. I loved Luke Cage & Daredevil, and enjoyed Iron Fist & Jessica Jones (especially S1), but Punisher just flat out was a whole other level of awesome, IMO.
Glad you’re watching this, I loved Daredevil but Punisher is my fave of all the Netflix hero series
