I used to use a three wire method which was cumbersome. Then decided to Sent them out to labs. I also tried using an optical comparator. Got some good readings. BTW, those attachments were available from mitutoyo many years ago..

Is it possible to measure PCD if spur gear by same instrument?

You are not actually measuring the “pitch” but the “pitch diameter” called the “effective diameter” , there is a big difference between those two !

That is not measuring Thread Pitch that is Pitch DIAMETER.
