Great work . The old 308 is very underrated for what you can get from a basic standard motor and yours is close to mine but i have dish pistons with zero deck and 100 thou of the heads . ive run 12.26 &109 with no port work just a L34 intake valve standard exhaust valve and 236/242 solid comp cams and a 650 holley with a auto . I do have 4.44 gears and a big convertor . There a awesome little motor .
That's awesome, it’s a fun little combo. I'm definitely keen to see what this one can do on a real drag strip. I’ll drive it down to heathcote some day and have a crack.
That combo reminds me of mine from years ago, std short unbalanced, 60 over cast dish tops, bud flat tappet 224/.490 110° single pattern cheapy cam, std unported small valve hq heads, 3500 stall and 3.9 welded sunbird diff went 12.6@104 with std rockers and points dizzy, tried rollers and HEI and went 12.50@105.5 hard to beat bang for buck
Love your vids. Just did a binge on them. It’s funny watching knowing where you are( I’m a Wodonga local). Anywho just wanted to know what trans your running. I’ve got an EH with a 253 running an Aussie 4 speed and am looking for a 5 speed conversion that’s not to expensive.
Love it! Everyone seems to have an old Torana memory. I’d love to be able to use this channel to take people for a few joyrides and re live them memories!
I had a fibreglass T bucket with a 289 FMX 600 double pumper cusso diff etc that ran 11 seconds so you running 16 seconds like you did is not too shabby I also got a VH 44 from Echuca on my EH and it does a great job keep up the good work Phil also in Albury
Yeah, they definitely do. I'd like to swap it over for a track day or dyno run and see what difference it makes now. i haven't run the double pumper since doing the roller cam conversion. for 90% of my driving im happy with the quaddy's performance and economy though
I have a quadrajet on a 350 in a HQ. Its by far the best driving and power carb I've ever fitted, but I also have the fuel starvation issues. Comes and goes. It also had a flooding issue when we tested it on the dyno, fuel started pouring out the bowl breather above 5k. Now using a fuel bypass return to tank system, fixed the flooding, but can still run dry if I nail it, sometimes! I might try raising the bowl level, see how it goes. The quadrajets definitely need a bigger bowl. And yeah, getting that top back on is a bitch.
Yes I do, it’s been in there for about 15 years now and zero issues but I’ve never really been hard on it and done any hard launches or dropped the clutch with sticky tyres etc. my bet is that it’ll be the weak link. It’s only the one with the alloy sandwich plate too (w55 I think) so yeah I give it heaps while in gear but not so much from a dig etc. old tyres help a bit too 🤣
@TasTuned Gee that is good. Yeah that must be the key to making them survive. I chewed up several when I was young 20yr ago and have just acquired another now but worried how it will go. Same as you Aluminium sandwich plate. Maybe a W57 this one. I'll try go easy on the launches and gear changes 😅. LSD in the LX or open?
@Brenton-oo9cc open diff (it’s a Volvo Dana 30). I did run a mechanical lokka in it for years but wasn’t too friendly for normal driving so I took it out and put it in my gasser which runs the same diff.
@@TasTuned Oh maybe I remember you saying something on a old video about that. Thanks for the reply and great job with the channel. Keeping Australian motoring/way of living from tbe 70's and 80's alive.
Nice one mate. Good to see that the engine is maintaining good temp. what is your thermo fan set up please. Looking to help a mate upgrade his 308/355 combo. Cheers 👍
@@micksss7444 I have a trimmed down el/ au falcon twin thermo setup that just fits between the rails with a few relays and one of them old Davies Craig adjustable thermo switches and I think a vn commodore v6 alloy radiator. I’ve noticed if I tow my little caravan on a hot day it’s right at the tipping point where if I’m going uphill it’ll start to rise and then drop again when I hit the flat so maybe a thicker core radiator would be better.
@ I’ll take it to the strip or measure it out and time with a stopwatch and run it either 1\8 or 1/4 whenever I get a chance but for now I reckon that feels reasonably accurate. I have a low 11 sec gasser and the torana definitely isn’t that quick.
My mate had a hq ss 253 manual. It had a big cam 650dp headers few other mods etc. best sounding v8. He never lost to any 308. He beat my xy gt rep 351 4v 400hp. For some reason those 253 engines rev hard. The 308 not so much. You can make any v8 fast but the 308 is an average engine
@@gazza116 I replaced the fuel pump a while back and it was over pressurising the carb. I lowered the float height to try and stop it flooding at idle but have since fitted a regulator and raised the float level again and it seems happy now

Never late in a 308.

oops mid 13s very cool I was running 11s at 205 kph
What app did you use for the quarter mile testing?
I just found one called race stats
All the phone apps should be taken as a very rough guide only as your phone's GPS only updates no faster than once per second.

16 seconds.....the crankshaft in the back doesnt help.

Yeah it’s the one downfall of the quadrajet that limits its power I think. It seems to keep up ok now with the raised float level so I’m happy.
