- A house next to the partially failing Rapidan Dam collapsed into the Blue Earth River in Rapidan, Minnesota, on Tuesday, June 25, footage shows.
Aerial footage taken by Andrew Weinzierl/AW Aerial shows water rushing along the failing side of the dam as a neighboring house collapses into the river. Officials have been monitoring the dam since Tuesday after it underwent a partial failure, causing increased soil erosion on one side of the dam.
According to local news reports, the house had been evacuated before it fell.

My heart breaks for the family that have been there for generations 💔
I pray 🙏 that you can save the store/restaurant. 🙏🙏🙏
I agree, but I hope they go ahead and move everything they can out of the businesses a.s.a.p., just in case.
Lasted 114 years and the actual dam is still there. AND does anyone want to talk about the two spillways that were blocked by concrete after the dam had been there for years?
THAT is the real cause of all this
Sounds like it was planned then
Why was the concrete put in?
@@AlbertHess-xy7ky I have not found anyone that says exactly when. Best I have heard was decades later. Whether that is accurate is another story
@@gruntforever7437 Should it have not been there?
I suspect they blocked those two spillways because the flowing water caused erosion on the other side.
That’s bad this family lost their home !!!
They knowingly built on a flood plan. Now way no how did they have insurance for flood either. It's all pretty until the levee breaks.
@@jcbell-dh1bm Led Zepplin told a story once about "when the levee breaks" ✌💖☮
They'll be fine they'll rebuild hopefully inland further up on stilts
@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGermanplay also made a song about the juice running down his leg or something like that and stairway to heaven if you live too close to the water😅
I seen led Zeppelin their last concert before John Bonham died
Not trying to be funny, but there has to be a reason why there's only 1 house there🤷♂️.
There is, they own a general store on the other side.
The road in front of the house was washed away when the dam spillway failed. The river has been cutting into the earthen side hill at a rate of 3 feet perday so it was only a matter of time
yup, learned in the 80s when I lived near the Alcovy River {lots calmer} in Covington Georgia & we got more than a foot of rain & everything flooded, came all the way to the bottom of my deck which was about the same distance as this house but luckily it was just flood waters & not like this whitewater stuff
That's okay be funny Express yourself😅😅😅 that's that's what happens when your bill right there by the water 🌊🌊🌊😅😅😅
Never build close to rivers
@@davidwagner9644 Thanks Sheldon.
Now it’s very close to family store
That is so sad....😢
It is
Ohh dam . Prayers up for y'all Fam 😊
When Will We Humans Learn Not To Build Houses Near Oceans Lakes And Rivers
I prefer a concrete house in the middle of a large city and getting as far away from nature as possible.
i hate nature and animals, except cats.
The tree did not make it
So sad!!!
For sale : Home! Waterfront property! Great view of the dam. Sleep well with sounds of a waterfall. Inquire for price. 😂😂
No lowballers . I know what I got.
It has begun
Why did this happen? Poor engineering and not updated!
Oopsie Daisie
Apocalyptic
Probably not covered by insurance 😢
Build Back Better will fix it.
Now that's what I call a houseboat.
did the pepsi machine fall in too?
Now they got a house boat. Empty and insured I would guess 😉
Oil only saw a drop tree fall no house.
As UNSTABLE AS THE GROUND IS I WOULD NOT BE ANYWHERE IN SITE. OF. THAT DAM 😮😳😳
Just think, with all the money that went to Ukraine we could have really fixed up a lot of our infrastructure.
Just think of all that money that went to to Russia In the early forties....
@davidpawson9047 It needs maintenance, now. Did Biden make the 2030 call?
The true power of water unleashed!
Remember never build a house next to a dam.
Here come the lawsuits. I wonder how it will all play out in the end having an outdated dam with known issues.
It's too bad, and wasn't the water that got it, ground gave away and down she went. Too bad.
It gets shredded in seconds... wow
DAMMMMMM! Well maybe not anymore.
Wish I could feel empathy for these folks but I do not! Why did you build a house so close to a river let alone a very old dam! Just like folks who live in New Orleans below sea level and rich idiots who live on muddy Hill sides! Those are avoidable failures. I could say the same for people in earthquake zones as well, but as Japan has shown they know how to build structures properly! The US however can't even build proper roads anymore!
This makes me so sick inside, to see the beautiful peaceful trees and home fall in, is heartbreaking
Scary
Trump's fault😋
Build Back Better
SOOO SAD!
