I love the economy of motion in Rich's hands. His left hand seems to float back and forth above the fretboard while the fingers hardly move individually.
I can relate to your playing. I too play softly, using my nails to pluck the strings, and I've found some jazz boxes seem to need to be played harder to get a good tone. Hearing and seeing you play gives me more reassurance that I'll get similar results than I get with other players. I set up my own guitars and most people can't believe how low an action you can get if you play softly. It looks like you also prefer a low action, because your left hand barely seems to touch the strings. I had ordered an Eastman 810, with a floating pickup and tobacco finish, but the dealer cocked up my order, and sent the wrong guitar. By the time it was all resolved they'd stopped making the exact model and the price had shot up. This sounds like it might be a good candidate for me.
I’ve had mine e for a few years now, it’s a great box for the money. Build quality is fantastic although the pots are already getting scratchy even after constant cleaning….cant complain tho, not for 600 with HSC. Great review Rich!
Really Great Video. I have an LH EXL-1 from 2018. I guess my biggest questions are around the differences and is it worth it for the changes. It sounds beautiful. I wish I could play like you Rich. Such an economy of movement you have on that fretboard.
You're right, it's a bit weird for the "premier" to be a much cheaper model. The premier has a one-piece neck, less elaborate binding, and probably other cost-saving differences. You can pre-order for around £1600, or Thomann have it for pre-order at £1355 delivered. You might be able to get a dedicated guitar shop to set it up for you, but my experience with Thomann is they don't set up their guitars, so unless you're confident setting up a guitar, you probably need to get a guitar tech to set it up how you like it.
Gotta love the plumbers sink wrench headstock or you can open your bud light bottles with it..a proud moment for D'Angelico.. Hey Bill bring your guitar over I need to tighten my faucet nuts..
J ai une d Angelico exl 1 throwback .bonne guitare Jazz mais j ai changé les cordes pour mettre des filets plats car je n aime pas le son des cordes rondes d Angelico trop brillante
Let's face it, Rich, every guitar you try sounds great because it's you playing it!

Hi Rich, wonderful playing! I love it.
Gorgeous guitar, would love to win it this weekend!!
Looking forward to meeting everyone there as well!

That is a fabulous looking guitar, with a sound to match.
That’s going to be my next guitar 😊
Great playing and nice instrument.

Great review Rich!
I'm glad they talked a little and compared this to the Eastman guitar. I'm trying to decide whether to get this or an Eastman 503. can't decide....
Love the solo!

Sweet technique on a rig that I can relate to and afford, too!
I really like Koreian guitars. Yes, like the Gibson Johnny Smith George Benson used.
$1899?
So I am guessing that's not the DAngelico Premier EXL1?
Cause here in UK the retail price is around £700

Nice looking and sounding guitar…what’s the price range? And is there comparable sounding guitar for less money? With a floater?
i believe it‘s around $1,800
i have a 2004 exl 1 dp, with all the abalone. great, great instrument. if you can, check out (all in one) guitars, the 335 is excellent.
Good place to buy dangeic??
I had the same guitar and returned it. Much happier with my Epi Broadway although it’s a different animal altogether(it has mounted pups)..
What is the pickup
How does it sound unplugged?
Does Wes play? If so, can he play on camera one of these days?
SO? WHICH ONE YOU PREFFER, EASTMAN OR THIS ONE?

Sounds great, but it would be uncomfortable for me (too big(. I am going with their EX-SS.
Shadow of uour smie please
Rich Severson, the real oldie, more like Tal Farlow class.
it sounds a lot like the peerless monarch I had
Any idea who is manufacturing these for Dangelico? Peerless maybe?
Compared to a Samick Lasalle...?
You didn't answer the question,
it's ok I guessed it.
Neck Radius?
After getting this 775 i may be spoiled to other guitars!
Can you send it to m????
Don't know....beautiful for sure, but to me not a very strong sound
