As someone who is interested in moving to another city, I wouldn't look as close to specific crime numbers. I would be more interested in what neighborhoods have people outside and walking around, both daytime and at night. Usually lots of people provides a sense of safety, whether it's actual or perceived.

there are nice neighborhoods, and then there are neighborhoods I wouldn't go in the daytime. No matter what neighborhood you move to, I recommend you get a high tech security system. If you're going out at night, recommend you have a firearm. If you don't have a secure garage; recommend you get an older car (ie clunker). we don't have enough police; we have liberal judges; plus if you have kids, be prepared to send them to private schools because the public schools suck.

    Moved to Cincinnati from Florida...
The WORST areas in Cincinnati are an order of magnitude safer than the 'good': area of Florida!!
Perception, the fact that Cincinnati people report crime while people from most cities don't.
Also it's a numbers thing, Cincinnati is a region of 2.3 million and if you look at the region crime rate it's very low. It's because by there are several 'cities' inside Cincinnati. Delhi, Norwood, st Bernard etc etc all surrounded by Cincinnati. But not listed as part of it messes with the numbers and makes it APPEAR high crime when anyone moving here from other coastal cities would laugh at it!
