In most areas of classical music (this mostly applies to woodwinds), _____ trio or ________ quartet is the instrument plus stings (and sometimes piano). So a piano trio is piano, violin, and cello. A clarinet quintet is clarinet plus string quartet. A clarinet trio is clarinet, violin, piano. An oboe quartet is oboe plus violin, viola, and cello. The only instrument this doesn’t apply to is the saxophone as the saxophone is pretty much the only instrument family that has made a chamber ensemble that rivals the strings. If you want 5 bassoons, that’d be “Quintet for Bassoons”
What a rare gem! There is a magnificent concerto that has a stupendous « storm und drang » dramatic singing quality (reminiscent of Beethoven but especially Bellini almost) Can imagine a baritone aria being sung
There is a lovely recording on modern bassoon with Knut Sönstevold, who i think is the one who "discovered" it in the royal music library in Stockholm. Du Puy was a (very controversial) singer at the Stockholm opera, and he wrote this piece to one who must be regarded one the best bassoon players of all time. Franz Preumay(e)r. All pieces written in and around Scandinavia at the time were either written to him, or were inspired by him. The recording is quite hard to find but has been broadcasted by the Swedish national radio on a couple of occasions.
Puzzled you cant tell the dikfference between 1800 and 1899. It is not Classical. Would be rather regurgitative if after 1880.v Not everything after 1850 has top Es or Fs PRESTON. My educated guess is c1855
It is probably before 1830, but we don't know. The description tells as much. This way of writing is probably the most common way when you don't know exactly which year.
Ah, what a shame. I clicked on this expecting it to be for five bassoons.
You and me both!
Me too! 😂
