I was in tears. I just love this story arc. Feefee really did help Ruby become a better person. Who hasn’t felt like they were enough? Ever felt ugly? Ever had people tell you ugly things? I think that’s what makes Feefee’s story so impactful. It’s a multitude of situations where people have experienced in some way. Or even have been like Ruby. Being selfish and not appropriating what you have. Until one day, that person you didn’t appreciate or were maybe mean to was now gone. Only then did you realize how much you valued them when they were gone. They had enough of being mistreated and left. And like Ruby you probably deeply regret how much you didn’t appreciate or respected the Feefee in your life
I have, since before, Milotic has always been a Pokémon that I liked [among my favorites], but when I hear that Feebas is the representation of ugliness, well, I don't agree with it. Although there are Pokémon that are prettier than others, Feebas seems to me to be one of the most interesting concepts, which personally makes it attractive [more so than Magikarp personally], and I would carry it more frequently in my team if it weren't because the Pokémon games, for some reason, make it as complicated as hell to get a Feebas [unlike Magikarp which is just using the old rod and that's it]
I never actually thought Feebas was ugly. I thought it was kind of cute, even before knowing much about Milotic. Feefee’s story always tugged at my heartstrings. Despite being hurt so bad, she came back to Ruby to save him!
SAME 😭😭😭 When I was a kid, my first Pokémon ROM Hack on my tablet (not counting Emerald or Crystal Dust) was Light Platinum, and when I first saw Feebas, I thought it was an incredibly cute Pokémon, and I loved it’s color palette 😭 When I found out that it evolved using the Water Stone in the game, I loved it even more when it evolved into Milotic. It’s still one of my top 10 favorite Pokémon since childhood
I know Feebas was meant to be ugly and unwanted but honestly I’ve always liked Feebas. Specially the shiny form, it’s a beautiful shade of lavender, I wish it kept that color when it evolved.
In Pixelmon theres The fan version Skins Called Graveyard/spirit pokémons If a milotic spawns Inside or close to a Graveyard It Will turn Black With lavender color on some parts
@GuaseVerse-o3x i mean considering Magikarp didn't look too different from it's anime counterpart IRL in the Detective Pikachu movie... i somehow doubt Feebas would be that different
I did have a theory about the Milotic, in Kitakami's Crystal Pool. My theory goes: A Feebas, that hated its appearance, wished to be beautiful, but didn't know where to start. That's when it found the Crystal Cluster, at the bottom of the lake. While searching where it came from, it saw more flowing down a waterfall on top of Oni Mountain and decided to go up. Though not strong enough, it was determined to journey this dangerous trek. However, it was attacked and was taken by a Mandibuzz to its nest. Feebas struggle to be freed from it's talons, and succeeded, but took too much damage by Mandibuzz's attack. As soon as Feebas was about to succumb to its injuries, there was a light shining in its face. It was the Tera Crystal, from the Crystal Pool. Feebas finally made it to the top, made it to the source of the shards and with its last thoughts before it passed on, "Finally, I can become beautiful." That's when the Crystal Cluster, that it carried throughout its journey, reacted. Feebas's wish, was granted. It was reborn as a, Tera Ghost Type, Milotic. And that's the same Crystal Cluster you get when you defeat it, in the Teal Mask DLC, to fix Ogerpon's Teal Mask.
My realizations: 1. I have never read the adventures manga. 2. Now I want to 3. Wallace (and Norman) are goated. 4. FeeFee's sustained absence is unironically one of the best literary moves I've ever seen from a writer.
Feebas and Milotic have always been my top favorite Pokemon, and the fact that the manga went above and beyond to focus on them left me with so many feels
Feebas is literally the “Ugly Ducking” of the Pokémon world. Even though it’s a fish. It starts out “ugly” but then it can evolve into Milotic if it’s contest beauty stat is maxed out or it’s traded with a Prism Scale. Milotic is so pretty.
I wish there were other Pokemon that evolve using the other contest stats. I remember suggesting regular Pikachu should evolve into the contest forms by maxing out the appropriate contest stat.
The fact that the Aqua leader that loves all water and water type Pokemon but said “something that ugly doesn’t deserve to live”, that’s no leader, that’s just a man who doesn’t like water Pokemon and flood the whole world.
The manga made me appreciate Feebas more. Feefee was so loyal to Ruby. She came back to protect him even after he was so nasty to her. Her loyalty made her beautiful. I cried when I read that chapter
While I do appreciate Ruby being able to see Feefee's inner beauty and actually value it, it does feel a little bit of a shame that she evolves immediately after that and he gets a pretty sea serpent that appeals to his usual aesthetic. It would've been neat if he had to spend a bit more time with Feebas before that evolution. But I suppose we were already at the end of the story by then!
I had the honor of using a Feebas in Platinum, the same method of about 5 tile fishing chance in Mt. Coronet. And I have to say, evolving this fish is a journey on it's own. Definetly a way for the game to get you attached to a pokemon.

This is my favorite arc too, even though Hoenn was never my favorite gen in the games, the Pokémon Special manga is so well written that it made me fell in love with it. I cried so much when Ruby was mean to Mimi (I read the fan translation), and then Wallace's speech to Ruby .. just damn, right in the feels. And then when she came back and Ruby said those beautiful things about her and she evolved... it was too much, so heartwarming, best moment in the whole manga, hell, maybe even the whole franchise, we were able to see how deep the bond between a trainer and his pokémon is ❤
an aspect i really love is how it has this whole duality theme. two protagonists that contrast gender stereotypes due to events from their childhood, two antagonists who contrast in their methods and attitudes, two different journeies that combine into a single battle for the world.
I disagree, Ruby is a child with a possibly unstable upbringing. I do not think he deserves to die /I think he deserves to live for that, but he does need to improve his behaviour
I was going to sit here and say, "yeah, I don't really cry but Feebas's return and evolution almost got me" but, *YOU. DID NOT. JUST PLAY. THE EXACT SONG. THAT PLAYED IN MY HEAD. WHEN FEEBAS EVOLVED.* I kid you not. Reset "Thank You" Version and Rising Sun from Okami came to my mind when I got to that part of the manga. I am just baffled beyond belief. Screw it, you got a sub.
I haven’t read the manga. But the fact that Feefee was enamored with such a trainer despite his very selfish attitude, makes me think that Feefee also desired to be ‘beautiful’. She saw that with him, he could shape her into something more. Anyone else would just see her as ugly, move on, or sell her. So she didn’t mind being insulted. But then she was treated kindly, won beauty contests. She was learning to accept herself and see herself as beautiful. And that’s why she cried when her trainer was suddenly so mean. But she still loved him, so she came back to him. How fitting that she evolved when they both accept themselves completely and sees that she is, utterly beautiful.
I kinda wished they kept Milotics difficult evolution requirement in the previous games by maxing its beauty stat instead of defaulting to trade evolution as it keeps in theme that Feebas is a coal that needs to be transformed into a diamond. Even if they removed the beauty stat it they could have found a new workaround to still keep the spirit of that evolution alive.
Feebas to milotic is a ugly duckling story. And it reward the player for keeping feebas despite it's looks and stats until it evolves into the beautiful and powerful milotic by bring it into the contest. And also a beauty is on the inside or what matters on the inside type of message.
Archie and Maxie were so mistreated by the manga. In the games, they at least understand when things go too far, while the manga turns them into violent monsters.
….oh my god… I never Hated the Feebas but now I Loved it I mean it’s shiny is actually pretty cool And now that I’ve seen this this Litterly made me shed a Tear and I will forever Love it no matter what or should I say “Her”
Ruby and Sapphire chapter is an emotional rollercoaster. Still the best arc in the whole manga until this time. The whole time when I read it, it didn't feel like reading Pokemon 😂
I just got finished reading this manga yesterday! I initially only wanted to read it for the Contests (aka my favorite side mechanic in the games), but I got invested in the plot very fast! I got a new appreciation for Feebas and Milotic, and it makes me want to transfer the one from my almost seven year old Omega Ruby profile to the Switch (after winning some Contests, of course. 😉)
I love how sometimes lore and good stories can change our minds about things! I love Stoutland after the absolutely gutting story in the Sun and Moon anime after I hated that dog line since gen 5. (also dw I remember crying in frustration and giving up trying to find Feebas in gen 3)
Can't say I'm a big fan of this kinda messaging, to be honest. This whole thing of Feebas actually being 'beautiful on the inside' that allows it to transform it into a 'beautiful' Pokémon kind of breaks the point of the original messaging to begin with--that you can still be 'beautiful' while being ugly on the outside. You wouldn't see them trying to pull this kinda message with a Grimer or Koffing, I'll say that much. We aren't exactly deep creatures.
27:55 bro has two left hands in that illustration. His thumb on the bottom hand is on the wrong side! XD (I only noticed because that looked like the kamehameha, I had to mimic it, then I realized the thumbs didn't line up)
the irony is that in becoming so obsessed with a shallow idea of beauty and disavowing battling entirely even if it means letting people get hurt and act like their suffering doesn't matter to him, Ruby allowed HIMSELF to become the truly ugly one, and its only when faced with that ugliness that he can change and become beautiful himself, and in turn gain the beauty he desired all along
Love that you shared this thank you. Two things about the story. I wish the blind kid, so PERFECTLY placed in a story about beauty, could have mentioned something about how Karpy is the coolest most beautiful Pokemon because he is always there for him. He can't tell what other people consider beautiful but he sees the best in Karpy who is always there for him and is the best because of it. I think that would have hit Ruby HAAAARD. ...also lame. I wish he was looking for a "more beautiful" Pokemon than Milotic so he was surprised Feefee could be more beautiful that what he was aiming for than him getting what he wanted
To be honest, i do kinda wish that FeeFee never evolved. Its feels like ruby finally properly accepts her and thrn she evolves into what the selfish part of him was looking for. Other than that i loved this manga, Archie was so cold, the opposite from his ORAS counterpart, and maxie was a bit nutty but really lost the plot after the Orb merging
What an awesome video, I definitely have to re-read RSE! I definitely want more PokeSpe videos! Do you have any desire or plan to make one on the Sun and Moon arc? It’s my favorite arc!
I'm glad i watched this video. I'd rather just read the manga myself (& i've been planning to for a while since i was already familiar with some of the story) but watching a video like this once in a while is nice. Why? The video creator's sheer love for the story & how clearly he states its impact on him. You see so much irony poisoning these days, so just plain old enthusiasm and, "What a wonderful story! I got so attached!" feels refreshing & necessary. Yeah some of my friends are like that but it hits different from a stranger, I know nothing about you besides the fact that you cried over a Feebas in the cool Pokémon manga & that you loved it & you loved talking about it. There is something beautiful about that. I am incredibly depressed & actively trying to seek out evidence of any joy & non-shittiness in this world.
One of my first shinies was a Feebas someone traded to me. I loved the shade of purple and blue it was. I don’t remember if it ever evolved, but I’ve always loved Feebas just bc of that random stranger trading me a shiny Feebas.
i saw this video a few weeks ago and i couldn't play pokemon bc i've been busy with uni, so i decided to pick up the pokespe manga again after giving it a pause more than 10 years ago. it was honestly this video that pushed me to reread the manga to catch up again- i just finished the RS Arc last night. i love gen3 hands down but this arc is honestly my favourite.
In one of my Emerald playthroughs, I tried so, so hard to get a Milotic. It was so difficult to get as a kid, and that made it all the more valuable. Unfortunately, I miscalculated her sheen and she wound up not beautiful enough to evolve despite all my work. She still took me to the top in Beauty contests and filled every frame in the museum. That's who Feefee reminds me of.
This makes me wish i read the manga. I grew up with this anime series being the most memorable to me and Milotic is my favorite pokemon. I even have a milotic tattoo on my leg. I just wish the anime got as deep as the manga
Milotic is one of my top 6 Pokémon of all time and hearing this story just makes me appreciate the feebas stage so much more. I always saw feebas as the cuter and more loveable fish between it or Magikarp but now, I really really love feebas. I loved searching for a feebas in emerald and finding the right spot always feels so special. I always gave them pokeblocks and loved spending time teaching my little feebas the moves to help them fight but I would always evolve them before battling with them, not because I didn’t believe in feebas to fight but because I wanted to bring out its best potential ❤️
This has nothing to do with anything but what’s the music at 21:16? I recognize it from a flash animation I watched a long time ago and never found it.
I love how you covered this in detail, what I loved about pokemon adventure was that the trainers first pokemon wasn't necessarily the one that represented them the most. For Red it was Pika, for Gold it was Togepi, and for Ruby it was Feebas. Just like Ruby tries to be beautiful despite knowing his flaws, Feebas was the same. Mind you Feebas has a lot of hidden power, just like Ruby hid his own strength. By far one of the best character arcs in adventure
this is why the pokedex was needed, i beat a bunch of people feed their magikarps or goldeens a ton of pokeblocks just to not get a serpent dragon evolution pokemon
This was a sweet video. I always found Feebas and Milotic interesting, but I never even figured out how to catch Feebas as a kid, let alone how to evolve it. It's a really clever design, though. It's just ugly enough to draw out a negative reaction from most people who look at it, but just cute enough that a few people will take the time to figure it out, and the reward for doing so is Milotic, a really great and visually appealing Pokémon. It also draws an interesting parallel to Magikarp and Gyarados, and I think does the intended gameplay narrative more convincingly, since it's actually really hard to get a Milotic, while I always found getting a Gyarados pretty easy. They probably shouldn't have made it THAT hard to get Milotic, and I don't really understand why they made finding a Feebas so difficult as well, despite it clearly intending to be a riff on Magikarp, a Pokémon so common that you can find an endless supply of them in the swimming pool of Cerulean City's gym.
Im a dark ghost and bug type fan usually but feebas and milotic are pokemon that won my heart and actually it's only because of feebas being a pokemon i randomly found and thought was a cool design that my brother later helped me evolve. My friends and i designed our own champion teams and i had my first starter umbreon on it for a double battle format alongside Milotic, Dragonair, Scizor, Mimikyu and Typhlosion.
Ah febass… Yes, I remember spending hours and hours looking for it back when I played the gen 3 games for the first time. I really really wanted that Milotic!!
Between the love story of Ruby and Sapphire, the conflict between Ruby and Norman, and now the Feebas story? They were cooking with Ruby and Sapphire. The only thing that could make it go harder was an XD Gale of Darkness reference.
The most infuriating thing about Feebas is it's method of evolution, or rather methods because of in game mechanics changing. No one trades anymore so the trade while holding item is out of the question, and the only way right now is to move to BDSP and max out it's beauty stat. At least HGSS found a way around the lack of contest mechanics.
My favorite pokemon has always been Feebas, i thought it was very cute and just a tiny little fish, then when i found out it evolved into Milotic then my love for it tenfolded
Be real... How many of you were in the feels for Feefee after this video?

I did have a theory about the Milotic, in Kitakami's Crystal Pool. My theory goes:
A Feebas, that hated its appearance, wished to be beautiful, but didn't know where to start. That's when it found the Crystal Cluster, at the bottom of the lake. While searching where it came from, it saw more flowing down a waterfall on top of Oni Mountain and decided to go up. Though not strong enough, it was determined to journey this dangerous trek.

Made have tears of joy because of this beautiful story 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@KaiXianil 😭😭😭😭😭
I cried so hard watching this video. Your writing is incredibly beautiful
same 😭
I love how sometimes lore and good stories can change our minds about things!
XD (I only noticed because that looked like the kamehameha, I had to mimic it, then I realized the thumbs didn't line up)
Feefee also knew perfect timing
23:17 she's like "you wanna say that again??"
Hahaha
the irony is that in becoming so obsessed with a shallow idea of beauty and disavowing battling entirely even if it means letting people get hurt and act like their suffering doesn't matter to him, Ruby allowed HIMSELF to become the truly ugly one, and its only when faced with that ugliness that he can change and become beautiful himself, and in turn gain the beauty he desired all along
Feebas is my favorite pokemon even though she's small she evolves into a beautiful milotic.
I have finally found a Poketuber who read the manga!!!
Porocks are a neat idea, although feeding it before being full is somewhat of a challenge to get right.
Pokemon manga writers casually writting the most fire storylines of all pokemon.
I like Feebas as is! It's so cool and unique!
I also read that book from the series. I was in shock. I really like Feebas, so I just felt almost disappointed.
One of my first shinies was a Feebas someone traded to me. I loved the shade of purple and blue it was. I don’t remember if it ever evolved, but I’ve always loved Feebas just bc of that random stranger trading me a shiny Feebas.
What happened to the pokemon in the pokeballs that were punctured by seviper and zangoose?
Were they just empty pokeballs?
Its crazy cause Pokemon Adnveture was the same reason i fell in love with Milotic. Still one of my favorite pokemon.
this part broke my heart when i read it for the first time, had me teary eyed i swear😢 its so peak
i saw this video a few weeks ago and i couldn't play pokemon bc i've been busy with uni, so i decided to pick up the pokespe manga again after giving it a pause more than 10 years ago. it was honestly this video that pushed me to reread the manga to catch up again- i just finished the RS Arc last night. i love gen3 hands down but this arc is honestly my favourite.
I've always loved the little feesh, cute lil guy
Gosh after hearing that whole a Arc I'd give massive respects to Feefee
You just got me teary-eyed 😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢
But I am so happy that Fee fee is reunited with ruby
FeeFee 🥲
" the ice queen will melt your hearth" ahh milotic
Ruby is out here treating Mudkip like Glinda treated Elphaba in Wicked.
3:03 “so I heard you liek [magikarp]”
Other than feebas, I love the use of the okami soundtrack which is super good taste for the topic
I always gave them pokeblocks and loved spending time teaching my little feebas the moves to help them fight but I would always evolve them before battling with them, not because I didn’t believe in feebas to fight but because I wanted to bring out its best potential ❤️
feebas is actually cute its like testing your bond and love to your pokemon
This has nothing to do with anything but what’s the music at 21:16? I recognize it from a flash animation I watched a long time ago and never found it.
Daily agony shemune, mario bros z probably
My favorite pokemon is Magikarp. So when we got Feebas, I had to have one too.
When i tell people this arc is my fav of all time, this is one of those reasons
i never thought i would cry because of feefee again. i love the adventure manga so much. it's my favorite pokemon media.
Yeah! like i already wrote in another of your videos, one of my favorite parts of this!
Feebas was actually the friends we made along the way
this is why the pokedex was needed, i beat a bunch of people feed their magikarps or goldeens a ton of pokeblocks just to not get a serpent dragon evolution pokemon
And Game Freak will NEVER tell a story this good.
May Nintendo realize this, and have Adventures' writers do the story for a main-line game someday.
When you updating the avatar then bro to have Feebas in your arms? 😘
Oh piss off
This was a sweet video.
I will never understand how no one, not even in the games, acknowledge how similar feebas and magikarp look
They are identical shapes
I think ORAS fixed the randomness of Feebas spawns. You don't have to go searching each tile for it anymore XD
THE ONE PEAK! THE ONE PEAK IS REEEEEEAAAAAAAL‼️‼️
It's been Ruby & Sapphire Adventures this entire time!
I've never heard this story before but it made me cry
Im a dark ghost and bug type fan usually but feebas and milotic are pokemon that won my heart and actually it's only because of feebas being a pokemon i randomly found and thought was a cool design that my brother later helped me evolve. My friends and i designed our own champion teams and i had my first starter umbreon on it for a double battle format alongside Milotic, Dragonair, Scizor, Mimikyu and Typhlosion.
Ah febass… Yes, I remember spending hours and hours looking for it back when I played the gen 3 games for the first time. I really really wanted that Milotic!!
I can't be the only one who likes feebas's design 💀
Between the love story of Ruby and Sapphire, the conflict between Ruby and Norman, and now the Feebas story? They were cooking with Ruby and Sapphire. The only thing that could make it go harder was an XD Gale of Darkness reference.
POKEMON ADVENTURES/SPECIAL/POKESPE MANGA MENTION
MAKING MY CHILDHOOD RN
The most infuriating thing about Feebas is it's method of evolution, or rather methods because of in game mechanics changing. No one trades anymore so the trade while holding item is out of the question, and the only way right now is to move to BDSP and max out it's beauty stat. At least HGSS found a way around the lack of contest mechanics.
So… basically “the ugly duckling” but with a feebas?
The ruby sapphire manga is just one of the best arcs in general
I loved feebass before milotic and use for one of my team
I can definitely seem them copying Ruby and Fefe relationship with AZ and Floette to a degree with Legends Z-A
My favorite pokemon has always been Feebas, i thought it was very cute and just a tiny little fish, then when i found out it evolved into Milotic then my love for it tenfolded
