Dr said that we follow lunar calendar because it brings variation to the seasons and so no one is at disadvantage. Meaning that one person would experience Ramadan or Hajj in all seasons. However, what about people living close to poles or equator? For example, if someone lives on equator, it wouldn't matter if Ramadan falls in January or July, they would always experience it in hot weather. Similar is the case for someone living near to poles e.g in Norway. So the purpose of lunar calendar is defeated. Please answer.

    • @jayre872
      @jayre872 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Exactly, Quran tells us to follow lunisolar system for these calculations. And if we go according to that Ramadan should fall in mid September. And that time mostly around the world day n night r equal.

To be frank, your argument is not relevant. Because a person living in Norway will always experience a more cold Ramadan, but the fasting hours are much longer in the summertime for them as opposed to when Ramadan falls in the winter time and the fasting hours are much less. Those who live directly on the equator will experience a different fasting hours depending on when Ramadan comes around.

What can be the oldest calendar??
My Estimation: I think at the beginning of humankind when people felt they need to count long time intervals for some reasons, they found the moon is a very easy way to relate. For more longer period may be they worked out that 12 lunar periods make sense. Thus it make sense to me that lunar calendar is the oldest.
On the other hand if we learn about Islam we know that Islam is very much related to the oldest time of humankind and Prophet Muhammad(sm) established nothing himself but the command of Allah.
Now my question is - from when the solar calendar have been established and did not it gone through changes to fix itself for several times??
So Muslims follow the Lunar Calendar is very logical to me.
I feel it is a sign.

The discussion about Rabi' al-Awwal is pretty deep. It means the first of Spring. But because Islam is based on the lunar calendar, Rabi' al-Awwal could take place on the first day of Fall (or Winter or Summer or anytime). Which is fine if that works for you.
In Judaism, time is dependent on the lunar cycle. The problem is that the Torah requires that Passover (aka Pesach) be observed in the Spring (Spring is based on the solar year) AND on the 15th of the Hebrew month of Nissan (Hebrew month based on the lunar year). How can this happen consistently year in and year out if the lunar year is around 10-11 days shorter than the solar year?
This is why the Torah CLEARLY gives the power to the People/Court/Beit Din to establish a new/leap month (see Exodus Chapter 12 and the use of the Hebrew words "HaChodesh Hazeh Lachem..." or "The months shall be for YOU to establish...) - in order to ensure the Holiday of Passover (aka Pesach) is celebrated in the Spring season, in accordance with the Torah's requirement. It's worthwhile to note that in the year 400, Hillel determined all future required leap months in perpetuity - so there is no requirement to declare one via the People/Court/Beit Din.
This is just one example of why it is clear that G-d wanted the Jews/Sages to study and expound on the Torah (i.e. via the Mishna/Talmud). Orthodox Jews believe that the Mishna/Talmud were transmitted to Moses at Sinai.

Alhamdulillah, I just published “Islam’s Lunisolar Calendar and the Celestial Year-Clock” which proves by the Qur’an, hadith and sirah that the Prophet’s calendar kept the September equinox in the lunar month of Ramadan. The calendar was changed under Umar because verse 9:37 is an attack on rabbinical manipulation of the Jewish calendar (to keep their first month with multiple holidays from starting on Wed, Fri or Sunday - thus they “agreed in the number of what God sanctified, but they profaned what He sanctified”). Umar possibly did not want to offend his Jewish subjects on whom he relied for administrative help in conquered cities.

@@Sikyu-ye4ns I have met with an Islamic Scholar personally. I have also check the online fatwas. These are given below:
      1. Using Bioscope for polar regions.
      2. Astronomical Calculation. Lunisolar calendar is a type of calculation but not fully acceptable. Astronomical calculation is more safer option for that type of exeptional case. Because people didn’t' have telescope about 1400 years ago at the time of Muhammad(PBUH).
      3. Migrate to a normal Muslim Country if you have money. If you don't have money you can apply first two system.
      4. Follow the time of Mecca, the first type of Ijma by scholars.
      5. Follow the time of contries near your country, the second type of Ijma by scholars.
So there are numerous techniques. Muslims observed there festivals and perform their daily activities according to lunar calendar for centuries during Rashidin Caliphate, Ummayyad Caliphate, Abbassaid Calihate, Osmani Caliphate etc without any problems. Jews also use lunar calendar for their Sabbath for thousands of year. China is using lunar calendar in the present world for new year. So using lunar calendar is not a bad thing if you do it for right purpose.
To conclude, lunar calendar has both historical, cultural and scientific importance. You can't deny this fact if you are really open minded.

Here in the West, many of the Orthodox are still using a luni-solar calendar, which also puts some emphesis on the moon, but even those people are prioritizing the sun over the moon in their calendar, because the sun is not only reflecting the natural seasons, which are the basis for counting the years, but also the basis for a clock, or counting the natural days, while the moon was used only for counting the months, and become useless for measurment, after we've figured out how to properly count the months in accordance to the natural days and seasons, so it's rather absurd that the Muslims went in the opposite direction and completely rejected the sun, or decided to base their calendar fully on the moon, what makes it completely inconsistent, or inferior to both the solar and luni-solar calendars.
