I am working on the Panasonic NV-HV50 now. I'm gonna maybe strip it for parts because the P2 and P3 guides are plastic and have stripped threads. You can no longer adjust the tape path. I probably have spares somewhere but this VCR is not special at all, so why bother... Well, it has the SQPB feature but other that that nothing.
The other shop probably used 85c capacitors. We always used the 105c capacitors like you do. The other shop wouldn't have lasted long if they were here in California.
I didn't know that sqpb meant it could play s-vhs, useful! I've got about 6 VCRs from the thrift and a Samsung Funai is my current favorite. It's the lowest noise, both in the picture and mechanical noise. It's just missing frame by frame playback and no counter on the clock display otherwise it would be perfect.
I have seen those Chong X caps used in allegedly reputable brand's electronics. They are in every Chinese PSU out there. I don't know if they're any good but they certainly have gained shares.
How would I know that without one sitting in front of me? I don't memorize the component location and I don't have a service manual. If you took them all out and didn't make note then just install them and plug it in. It will either work or you will get a nice fireworks show 😀
hey dave, you probably have come across these quite often so i figure ill ask. do you have any VHS tapes that were recorded from tv that you would be willing to sell? i am local to you so i thought i would ask. thanks
@@12voltvids AHAHAH I'd be to curious. I have a pile of unlabeled tape I brought Home from after the shop closed up. I think some are vintage Commercials for the Store produced right here in town. One I know of is a 2500 handset taking off like a rocket when a Fellow employee put too much Flash powder inside. They still used it for the Commercial...
Remember I am in the archive business. Back in the 80s I got a box of 8mm films from the local photo lab i was contracted to transfer film for. His customer had got the films from his mother that probably had no idea what was mixed in with those little yellow boxes. As I was transferring the reels one reel was a bad one. A stag film. A guy in a van picked up a couple of very young looking girls that appeared to be about 12 and started tying them up with electrical cords and violently ripping their clothes off. I stopped what I was doing removed the film and immediately contacted the police of suspect child porn. They came over and collected all the films and work I had already transferred. (Photo labs required to report anything that appears to be kiddy porn.) I later heard from the photo store that there was a few other reels that were very bad. He had to go to court and testify against his customer that brought them it.
Quite frankly I couldn't give a shit what people think. I just grab whatever js closer. I usually use the kline snips because they give a nice close cut.
As cheap and cheerful as they could make them. When you compare this one with the previous Sony ones there is next to nothing to them. I still prefer the better Sony decks, they gave the best that VHS had to offer. I still have my SLV777 the build qulity is superb as is it's performance.
A home run plus a new tape, like every video I watch is Kamala with cup in hand looking for donations, you are a Canadian subject, these commercials have nothing to do with you. I like the way you tube used to be without sticking ads in at the drop of a hat.
This isn't my unit. It was a paid repair. As to the ads no we don't see your election ads here. I see the election ads for our election which is October but do far none of the official political ads right now it is the ones paid for by 3rd partys. The official ones kick off next month. TH-cam costs a ton to operate. The ads pay for operation and pay creators. If you don't want to see ads pony up and pay your 15 bucks a month.
@@12voltvids the technology has improved on their end to jam ads into a video more aggressively to give their ceos a second yacht or vacation home. The content creators get 55% of the revenue stream. The more ads a video has the more we make as producers. Its not so much about the ceo getting a new jet, the platform costs a ton to operate. Last time I checked Engineers didn't work for minimum wage. As far as I'm concerned the more the merrier as every ad earns me fraction of a penny but all those fractions of pennies turn into dollars.
Gotta love the simplicity of the late Funai mechanism. Very easy to repair.
They were the reason that everyone else stopped making their own and just had Funai build them. They perfected the VHS VCR mechanism.
@12voltvids , problem is, some people say that Funai's mechanism eats the tapes tho...
Wow, it’s amazing how cut down that machine is. I never worked on a VCR that was so optimized for cost.
Reducing parts increases reliability.
"Well it just so happens that your friend here is only mostly dead"
I always look forward to your VCR repair videos, I've never seen a VCR with no rear AV/Line Input.
It is on the front on this one.
I broke a mode switch like that for a Zenith VCR I didn't know they couldn't come apart I tried to find another one but no luck.

By the early 2000s VCRs became very simplified.
Lesser the parts, more reliable they are...

They were 105 but cheap caps.

I'm surprised how much extra roof there is in that player! Maybe back in the day people thought bigger means better?😂
Meant to fit with other components.
Very easy fix good job 👍
What is the blue vacuum tool you are using? It looks like that works really nicely.
Its a soldapult clone.
@@12voltvids Thanks. It seems to work really well.
I didn't watch yet. But let me take a guess. Power supply issue? I know I'm usually wrong. Looking forward to finding out.
Crap caps
Hi 12voltvids. On a pioneer SX-737 receiver power amplifier board, do the heatsink transistors go from pnp, npn or npn, pnp?.

Don't know what i have. I would say most are svhs and beta.
Maybe the Owners tape was at the end of the Recorded program ?? Did You rewind to the beginning of the Tape ?
Thanks Dave.
I did rewind part of it, nothing. Don't care though. It was brought in for being dead.

What part of these are made by JVC
None. Jvc didn't make vcrs by this time. That's a good thing because all their machines were crap.
First time I've seen you use wire cutters instead of scissors...just to appease the haters :)

More reliable than the crap from the 80s.
